Chapter 24: Catatonic Cameron.

On the side of the road…

Honestly, I kinda admire Ferris for thinking like that. To me, the future feels terrifying, it takes up like 90% of my brain (maybe that’s why I relate way too much to Cameron).

Then Ferris and Sloane go back to the Ferrari, where Cameron is.

Sloane asks if they’re going to some clinic, but Ferris says they need something bold, something with water.

Poor girl’s trying her best. Honestly, it’s the kind of advice I’d give and totally mess up too lol.

Same as in the movie, Ferris jumps in and pulls Cameron out of the pool, but after that, the story takes a few turns.

Ferris is panicking hard lol

Ferris saying the stuff he offered is worth more than Cameron… I cannot with him 😂

I thought the pool scene was a bit more fast-paced than in the movie, but the part where Cameron kinda kisses Sloane without her consent?? Yeah… didn’t like that. Doesn’t feel like something Cameron would actually do, at least not how I picture him...

Chapter 25: The End of the Day Off.

It starts with Jeanie at the police station, meeting Garth. At first, everything’s the same as the movie, so nothing much to say here.

Then we jump back to the trio in Cameron’s garage.

This time, they’re all lying on the garage floor, just waiting for the mileage to "go down."

Cameron checks the odometer and tells Ferris it’s not working. So Ferris suggests breaking the glass and rolling it back manually. But Cameron denies the suggestion.

Cameron’s monologue is pretty close to the original, though there are a few changes— some I liked, others… meh.

Just like in the movie, Ferris offers to take the blame, and Cameron refuses.

And ugh, I’m not even gonna talk about how bittersweet Cameron’s ending feels. I love him too much and get way too emotional lol 🥲

Back at the police station…

Jeanie planning to trick her parents and escape… I'm so proud of her lol

Cut to Ferris and Sloane walking to her place.

I don’t really like this extra dialogue ☠️ but maybe I’m just being grumpy.

Why did Ferris act like Han Solo here? 😂 And then when he jumps out to leave, she says she loves him again and he still doesn’t reply?? Let my man be the hopeless romantic he is, please!!

Just like in the movie, we get that mad dash home.

From here, it sticks pretty close to the movie, nothing big to point out.

Ferris makes it to his room just in time and gets greeted by his little siblings first.

Ricky and Kim keep teasing him until their parents show up, and then it all plays out like the movie, except…

One last thing (this is the only bit where he breaks the fourth wall without any "in-universe" excuse)…

Oh wait, there’s more lmao.

A lot happens in these last two chapters, but it’s harder to summarize since most of it mirrors the movie pretty closely. And honestly, if there’s one part that has to stay faithful, it’s the ending. So yeah, that’s it... had fun posting my lil thoughts here lol.

Chapter 22: Back to the Hoffmans (again).

Katie Bueller is once again visiting the future Hoffman home with the family. While she’s downstairs in the basement chatting with Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman, their son Boyd is chilling in Katie’s station wagon, listening to the radio.

Honestly, this is kinda the only part of the convo that’s actually interesting? And it drags on for like two whole pages.

Eventually, Katie and the Hoffmans come back to the car.

Kimberly barely shows up, but she’s a total diva. She’s like a mix of Ferris and Jeanie. I swear, if she and Ricky had made it into the movie, FBDO would’ve definitely gotten a sequel about one of their days off. (And it would’ve been awful. Like, really bad.)

Not 100% sure where this moment ⬇️ fits in, but you can see a quick shot of Katie with Boyd in the official trailer.

Boyd asks Katie if she’s got a son named Ferris, and when she says yes, he’s like, "Is he really gonna climb Everest?" 'Cause yes, Ferris said that on the radio.

Meanwhile, Jeanie pulls into the driveway. At that moment she sees the dog, whose name is Julian (?), chewing on a shoe and a sock in the driveway.

Same as in the movie, she walks into the kitchen, sees Rooney, hits him, and bolts upstairs to call the cops.

Chapter 23: Getting the Ferrari back + Rooney’s escape.

So, this one starts off with a quick line saying Igor Puggha ran six blocks in 36 seconds before turning the corner back to the lot with the Ferrari.

After leaving the radio station, the trio heads back to the parking lot.

Everything at the parking lot plays out like in the movie… until they hit the road...

"Here's where Cameron goes berserk."

No idea why, but this part still cracks me up even just reading it??

They broke him lol😭.

Ferris pulls over on the side of the road.

Back to Rooney’s POV — nothing super exciting here. One difference though: after being hit by Jeanie, he stumbles out the front door and he runs into this girl dressed as a nurse, that flower guy with a new bouquet, and a dude with balloons. Then, like in the movie, he spots his car being towed.

(Is this Garth’s family biz?? Like, Volbeck??)

Anyway, I get kinda lost again here ‘cause in the novelization, the scene where Rooney ends up on the school bus happens right after this.

Not saying it’s bad or anything, and I don’t really mind the change… it’s just kinda counterintuitive? Idk. Anyway, that’s where the chapter ends.

Two kinda meh chapters, tbh. I didn’t group them with the last two ‘cause there’s still a lot coming up and it would've gotten way too long. Anyway, just one more post and the novelization's done, yeyyy!

Chapter 20: German-American Appreciation Day.

We kick off with the trio in the taxi.

MYSTERIOUS financial market EXPERT!! seriously.

Then Ferris chats with the driver. Nothing super memorable there tbh.

They hit traffic, and Yuri (the driver) says it’s because of the Parade.

SLOCAMFER!!!!

Like in the movie, they run into Tom in traffic, but here it plays out a bit differently.

Sloane narrating precisely the entire process that Tom supposedly did to roll a joint lol

Then they just hop outta the cab mid-traffic, but Ferris gets swallowed by the crowd, and Sloane and Cam lose him.

Ferris is vibing on the float, while Sloane and Cam head to their meeting spot.

Cameron, buddy, I get it. Who wouldn’t get addicted to Ferris Bueller?

No clue who either of the Hannibals are. 💀

Chapter 21: WLS Studios.

Small thing but I appreciate how Todd Strasser just skipped the weird striptease scene (??) and gave us a little more of their scene in the radio studio.

Arriving at the studio, the trio gets greeted by Lou’s intern.

(I think it's not clear in English, but in Portuguese the use of pronouns indicates that Ferris says that Sloane is the security guard and Cameron is the makeup artist.)

Dave gives them a mini tour, shows the control room, and they all hang out while waiting for Lou.

Honestly? Kinda like this convo. Seeing Cam all excited is actually really cute.

The chat ends when Lou welcomes them to the studio during the program's break.

Ferris making sure Slo and Cam are by his side the whole time? Adorable.

Then Lou tries to wrap up by tossing Ferris a question about baseball.

Meanwhile, back with Rooney... he’s still getting wrecked by the Buellers’ dog (btw does that dog even have a name?? idr), and now he’s stuck in a tree when the flower delivery guy shows up. Honestly, I wouldn't mind transcribing this here if it weren't for one part….

lmao this whole chat is so silly but I laughed out loud when the former student started teasing Rooney.

AND THE BEST PART: the delivery guy pats the dog and goes, “If that guy comes down, give him a good bite on the butt for me, okay?” 😭😭😭

So yeah, chapter ends with Rooney still hanging in the tree, holding the flowers.

about that nightclub scene in the script: I read it once, like, ages ago and barely remember it.... just that Ferris was singing Elvis? That’s all I got.

Chapter 18: Wrigley Field.

Okay, I've been kinda criticizing the book so far, but ngl I really like the Wrigley part.

Cute to see Sloane actually focused on the game. And Cameron, lol, he's right.

This is silly but also kinda adorable?? Like… Sloane being into baseball??

Ferris gives her the ball he caught as a gift.

I seriously need to chill w/ how much I say I love these three but… I LOVE THESE THREE.

Then, Ferris asks where to find Anton, and Sloane tells him he's in the dugout during the game — she even points him out.

IT’S HARD NOT TO!!!!! I am so not normal about this part.

Was I surprised by this dialogue the first time? Idk, kinda? It’s cute but also unexpected how fast Cameron agrees.

Then there’s this lil buzz in the crowd and people are pointing to the Cubs' bullpen.

I checked the script and apparently this whole part was added in the novelization by Todd Strasser?? I actually love it. It's light, funny, and I can totally imagine it in the movie.

Then, Ferris gets “escorted” back to their seats.

After helping Ferris ditch the stadium guard, Hunley asks for a lil favor in return.

And the chapter ends w/ Ferris saying they’re leaving before the game even ends 'cause "three innings of baseball is all I can handle." (I know nothing about baseball, so like… no clue what that means lol.)

Chapter 19: Bueller's Smiling Puppy.

Rooney drives to Ferris’ house thinking he’ll find him “inside at that moment, smoking something illicit with all the thugs in the area.” 💀

After the intercom scene, Rooney decides to stick around and investigate.

Does that last sentence make any sense? Because I thought/think that's a Brazilian saying. I have no idea 😭.

He finds a dog door in the back. This part is kinda pointless but also? Weirdly funny??

He straight-up thinks Ferris is involved in “some illicit sexual act” lmaooo.

Anyway, the chapter ends w/ Igor and Sam driving the Ferrari near a street that’s closed off because... of a certain… parade.

Yeah, safe to say the novelization made me like the stadium scenes a lot more. In the movie they're just fine for me — don’t hate 'em, don’t love 'em. Rooney scenes still annoy me tho, but like, that’s just because it’s Rooney lol.
