beforus was woefully underdone. either say that they couldnt escape the scratch and dont add them at all, or actually give us characters instead of shitty jabs at how flanderised certain characters had gotten, thereby makin borus even *more* flanderised than the very trolls they were mocking! even just a few pages of aranea explainin to jake how the session went would have been more than enough, given how literally every alpha troll except meenah spent the lifespan of the universes stuck together. dont just tell us they lived(?) through that and not do anythin with it!

I personally would've liked to see more flashback scenes. Aranea is fine as is, but if she was played straight instead of a loser windbag joke version of Vriska, we'd get more Mindfang Journals, and we know how biased those were.

Power creep like this would've been better used in Homestuck. Unfortunately, nobody who ever worked on Homestuck or prior adventures knew how to make power creep work as anything but pure satire, so Ultimate Self became an ultimate joke. I won't hold my breath for Hell Tier being any better.

The thing i DESPISE about homestuck is that everything is so convoluted. The satire and genuinity clash to the point where you can't tell which is which so you're meant to assume that everything good is genuine and everything bad is satire and like that on purpose and I HATE THAT SO MUCH!!!! You can't just! Make a genuine story while making it centered around satire! Well! You can! But! This isn't it! UGH!

Homestuck was made as the newest installment of a madman's desire to piss all over his fandom, and this resulted in a story where Hussie, and later the staff of What Pumpkin and HICU, decided this was a good way to excuse bad writing. A lot of fanventures follow this rule, but many more attempted to make an actually serious story out of it. It's why some of the most popular fanventures are more coherent than Homestuck.

I just googled how frogs laid eggs and the growing on the back was the first result. Maybe other frogs hatch differently, but I decide to went this one for the sake of body horror. Still a step out than say shitting out the eggs.

I just don't understand how anyone could hate Jade, she's so cute & nice but also with a temper and a cool badass markswoman side, even tho she's not my favourite I just don't understand why the writers are so mean to her :((

They flanderize her as a bitch because of the moment she was mind controlled by the Condesce and was Grimbark. People assume the things she said under said brainwash was all on her. Even if it's just negative emotions being amplified when it happened, it doesn't change the fact that it was someone like literal sea Hitler using powers to raise it up without her consent. Most of them are also damn dirty fujoshi and fudanshi shippers. As well as wanting to pander it to same group in hopes of gaining clout and MONEY. Some are also ashamed to admit they are like Jade or Nepeta. Silly girls doing silly things. They want to be the cool badass types like Rose or Dave. They don't want to admit themselves they had acted or are still cringe in this present day.

Doc Scratch also altered the trajectory of multiple Friendsim trolls to get them and the reader exactly where he wanted them. Or, in the case of Fozzer, outright sent you into a timeline where everything's the same but Fozzer was raised different. A lot of trolls that have no reason to trust you are actively shown short-circuiting and changing their minds on the spot, like Cirava. While Friendsim exposed us to a bit of Alternia's fucked up culture, it was still through enough of a filter that people ignore or outright forget Chahut's off-color comments, Marvus using his chucklevoodoos to humiliate his groupies, and all the references to eugenics. Because hey, Mallek has a thing for you, Polypa's your moirail, Bronya's saving weak babies, the Grand Highblood let you live, and Skylla gave you pancakes.

the trolls in friendsim feel too "nice" compared to the ones in homestuck. i get that the homestuck trolls are internet stereotypes, and the friendsim trolls are designed as more modern internet stereotypes, but i dunno. online and offline behavior isn't as distinct as it was back in the day. these aren't really internet specific stereotypes, they're just people who exist, and happen to use the internet.

although, maybe that has to do with the context we meet them in? in hiveswap and friendsim, we're meeting all of these characters in person, whereas in homestuck most of the communication was online.

Even then, the trolls act similar as they do in real life even after they had met and were stuck in on the meteor by Act 5. The point of Alternia is that literal Internet trolls and stereotypes exist and have a crazy set of rules and beliefs they were groomed to accept. It's fucking hell. Sure there are good trolls, but for the most part, it falls on the fact the trolls were conditioned the way they are to being this and it is hard to break out from what they had known for their lives. The same applies to even the Beforus gang. People like The Signless are one of the few exceptions because he wasn't raised in the same manner as other trolls have. The Dolorosa raised him as his mother, which is foreign for any adult troll to raise a baby grub that is the opposite sex. It's the relation between The Dolorosa and The Signless that started the revolution in change. Besides the backstory told to us directly from the gang, we have yet to see their own start of change that breaks out from the norms of their planet. Bronya and Karako seem to follow similar to The Signless and Dolorosa, but even then, Karako acts independent from Bronya and isn't with her even after he hatches. It would be safe to assume The Signless had always been with the Dolorosa and never left her side. But Karako goes out a lot that Bronya has to have a tag and sign that mentions if found, the trolls need to contact her.

You could try hacking your brain to see each end of act announcement as a stopping point. Other ideas are to make a write-along as you read, get a hype-guy friend who's good at getting you back into things, keep a playlist or moodboard of things that get you feeling that Homestuck Juice, stuff like that. These are things that have helped some of my friends, but others did need other methods instead. These are just the ones I know of.

I hate how the fandom uses the epilogues and homestuck2 to harass others about headcanons but then conveniently start bringing up the dubious canonicity when they don't like the post canon material

You don't get to bring up post canon as the word of law for the parts you like then turn around and look away when you don't like it you either shut up and let others do whatever they want or you go away to your little post canon corner where you eat up everything they give you

The loudest parts of the new fandom follow behind a cluster of extremely loud, high-profile fandom bigwigs. All of whom are narcissistic enough to go digging for a post like this and assume it's about them specifically.

If you say one part is canon, it's all canon. If you say one part is not canon, then none of it is canon. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
