YN was almost asleep after Jack’s tossing and turning had seemed to subside, her eyes closed, breathing steadied and heart slowed. Suddenly the bed bounced and her eyes flew open as Jack sat bolt upright.

“I’m sorry,” he mumbled as YN’s hand flew over to his scarred back, adrenaline coursing through her body. “I’m sorry, go back to sleep,” he muttered again, moving off the bed, his feet softly patting over the floorboards as he left the room. Go back to sleep? YN knew she wasn’t going to get to sleep easily, but she lay on her back and waited, for Jack or the sandman.
