hey! i dont know when you'll see this, but i just went on mangadex to reread the meiji arc (my beloved) and i realised all the chapters youve posted are completely gone except for the last one? im not sure if its just my internet, but i tried to refresh several times and nothing's showing up :( i thought id ask you jic you knew what happened. sorry to bother! i hope youll have lots of fun in japan btw!

yeah apparently 330+ series from the same 4 publishers got nuked from mangadex because of a dmca, we'll see what i'll do but in the meantime i'll still be posting chapters to tumblr and theyre also all accessible in my google drive (search "gdrive" on my blog) (or in the discord server, look for the link on my watchparty posts im on my phone too lazy to find it rn)

Karuta card list

I'm told that Utsumi says in the audio commentary on the BD that there's 61 karuta cards and I found 61, albeit some of them only partial cards lol.... so here is my list!

with screenshots, Japanese text to the best of my ability (some of them are hard to read), and English translations

The karuta are supposed to be written in poem form and have 5 and 7 syllables in Japanese but for translating I just went with the closest meaning I didn't try to make them poems lol

Also, Miya and Reki's hand writing is too similar I tried to guess which one was which but I might have mixed a couple up.

sad reality of the fanfic-to-published work economy is that the weirdest people are willing to do it. that's why there's now hundreds of shitty no plot cishet hate-to-love enemies-to-lovers books that are ex reylo fanfic. and it's not even good. that's because the people who wrote book-quality steve/bucky and kirk/spock fic are too normal to think to themselves "i should get this porn published". they're too busy working in local government offices

as i grow older and age in fandom especially, i have waning patience for 2012 style fandom wars. i don't have time for the type of person who goes "why is this the 2nd top ship on ao3 when it bugs me", i don't have the energy to be friends with people who go "i specifically expressed dislike for this ship and people still write it?" and i have absolutely no time for someone who goes "this very personal trauma i have projected onto this random character and ship should be recognized and agreed by everyone else, otherwise they're bad people"

I've talked a bit before about what a good job Dead Boy Detectives does at making the world feel lived in. More importantly, it gives such an incredible sense of history to the characters.

The little nods to a shared life absolutely make you believe that these boys have been one another's Most Important Person for thirty years.

And there a lot of fantastic moments for it. If I had to pick a favorite? I truly don't know if I could, because all of them are amazing.

But one that sends me every time? That makes me absolutely gleeful?

Is when Edwin takes one look at this expression and the very next words out of his mouth are, "Charles, no!"

Because by god, he has known this boy for thirty years, and he 100% recognizes a Charles-is-about-to-make-a-terrible-decision face, and that is so unspeakably charming.
