Supercritical CO2 Extraction of Cannabinol from Hemp and Its Antibacterial Activity
Supercritical CO2 extraction of cannabinol from hemp was established, and the antimicrobial properties of the extracts were investigated. Through the analysis of single factor and orthogonal test, the optimum extraction process of three cannabinoids from hemp by supercritical CO2 was determined: extraction temperature 45 C, extraction time 70 min, entrainer dosage 300 m L, extraction times 3 times. The bacteriostasis tests of E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus with MIC of 8 mg/ml and 6 mg/ml were carried out by filter paper method. Under these conditions, cannabinol (CBD) was 3.189 mg/g, hexahydrocannabinol (CBN) was 2.206 mg/g, tetrahydrocannabinol (9-THC) was 58.757 mg/g, that is, the three cannabinoids were 64.152 mg/g. The diameter of bacteriostasis circle of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were 15.4 mm and 25.8 mm, respectively. The supercritical extract had certain bacteriostasis.

Because of the backward deep processing technology in our country, especially in some economically underdeveloped areas, many valuable natural resources are wasted in vain or exported cheaply as raw materials. After deep processing by foreign countries, they are sold back to China at a high price, such as beer industry, tea industry, pigments and flavors, etc. Large-scale supercritical extraction equipment is urgently needed for the comprehensive utilization of various wastes such as peel and stone, the Westernization of herbal medicine and the integration of international herbal medicine market. Obstacles to industrialization

After more than two years of testing, the equipment runs well. The products are: Angelica oil, Radix Angelicae oil, shikonin red pigment, frog seed oil of Changbai Mountain, sea rainbow oil, ginseng oil, Schisandra oil, safflower oil, hop oil, garlic oil, ginger oil, aloin, pyrethrum and other dozens of varieties, but also can remove 80% of pesticide residues from ginseng powder.

What’s the Working Process of Extraction

The CO2 that dissolves the active ingredients of the material depressurize passes through K01 into the heater E403; c) In the separator 1 heater E403, CO2 continues to be heated, and then into separator S201; d) In the separator S201, CO2 is heated and maintained by the hot water in its jacket. Due to factors such as pressure reduction, the dissolution rate of the active ingredient of the material is reduced. What’s the Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) Systems
Tradematt Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) Systems extract chemical compounds using supercritical carbon dioxide instead of an organic solvent. The high cost of organic solvents and the increasingly stringent environmental regulations together with the new requirements of the medical and food industries for ultra-pure and high added value products have pointed out the need for the development of new and clean technologies for the processing of food ingredients.
Supercritical fluid extraction, using carbon dioxide as a solvent, has provided an excellent alternative to the use of chemical solvents. Over the past three decades, supercritical CO2 has been used for the extraction and isolation of valuable compounds. It is non-toxic, leaves no residues, and is considered a green manufacturing process.
Supercritical fluid extraction process: unique and innovative extraction process
Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE) process has emerged as the alternative to the traditional solvent extraction process. It is a separation technique, which is developed by use of the fluid that has the ability of dissolution at supercritical pressure and supercritical temperature.
The extraction is carried out in highpressure equipment in batch or continuous manner, the supercritical solvent is put in contact with the material from which a desirable product is to be separated. The supercritical solvent, now saturated with the extracted product, is expanded to atmospheric conditions and the solubilized product is recovered in the separation vessel permitting the recycle of the supercritical solvent for further use (Figure 1).

As the extractions are carried out at high pressures, the extraction unit is fully automated, computerized, and highly sophisticate. Communication interfaces and input/output modules match the most challenging requirements in industrial automation thereby creating high degree of consistency and reproducibility between batches/lots.
