Discover The Secret Ingredient In Parama Products
First things First: Why Turmeric?
Turmeric, India’s ancient skincare and wellness ingredient, is known for its immunity-boosting, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-bacterial, antifungal, anti-anxiety, soothing, stimulating and antioxidant properties. It has been applied for generations by people of all ages to counter the effects of age, environment and lifestyle, and to prevent and address specific skin issues like acne, rashes, blemishes, scars and uneven skin tone.
(To learn more about Turmeric and its multiple benefits you can read our blog “Turmeric Shakti-19 Benefits and Counting”)
Why stain-free Turmeric?
Despite all the benefits, turmeric slowly lost its appeal over time as a skincare application.
Why? Because:
it leaves a yellow stain
it is messy
its application is time consuming
Parama Naturals has been able to bring back the magic of turmeric into skincare without the mess or the stains.
How do we get stain-free turmeric?
The cornerstone of Parama Naturals is a pure extract of Turmeric without its characteristic yellow dye, made using a chemical and solvent-free, safe process. This extract is then blended with a range of natural and pure time-tested powerhouses like cold-pressed oils rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which act on different layers of the skin and are quick-absorbing.
The Process
We use a technologically advanced process (CO2-SCFE) to separate the yellow pigment from the turmeric oil extracted from dried turmeric rhizomes. Supercritical Fluid Extraction using Carbon Dioxide or CO2-SCFE is rapidly gaining acceptance as the most preferred extraction technology the world over for natural extraction of relatively non-polar aromatic compounds for the following reasons:
The process is accepted by the Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia as an acceptable, safe and effective method.
The flavour, odour and active ingredient profiles of the extracts remain as close as possible to the original raw material.
Selective extractions are possible by precisely tuning the extraction process and parameters.
The CO2-SCFE process ensures that no harmful solvents, chemicals or chemical residues are present in the extract.
The extract retains the natural character, complexity, delicacy, freshness, smell and taste which is most essential for the food, fragrance and pharmaceutical industries.
Why supercritical CO2 extracts?
There is no loss of volatile components during the extraction process.
CO2 is an inert gas and does not react with any of the substrates to form allied products.
CO2 prevents oxidation of the extract.
There is selective fractionation and extraction of almost all active nodes.
It is suitable for thermally unstable or thermo-labile products
The extract retains the character and complexity of the plant source
Supercritical CO2 extracts are pure and safe for human consumption with no organic solvents or solvent residues.
CO2 is non-toxic.
There is no use of organic solvents and no solvent residues which may be harmful for human consumption.
CO2 contains no inorganic salts or heavy metals.
CO2 retards microbial/bacterial growth in the extraction process.
No extraction of the pesticidal substances from primary flora takes place.
CO2 is certified as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) as per USFDA.
CO2 meets California Proposition 65 requirements.
CO2 is certified as a safe solvent as per the Directive of the European Parliament and Council for food ingredients.
CO2 is well-accepted by the International Federation of Organic Movement (IFOAM).
CO2 is acceptable as a food additive by the Japanese Specifications and Standards for Food and Food Additives.
Now that you know the lengths that we go to in order to give you products made with the purest, safest and finest of ingredients, you have no excuse to deprive your skin of the benefits of Turmeric. So, bask in the luxury of Parama Natural oils without any hassle or concerns and say goodbye to all your skin worries!

Why is cannabis extraction gaining more attention at present?
Tumblr media
Cannabis extraction is garnering increasing attention on account of many countries, states within countries, and regions legalizing the use of cannabis for medicinal reasons. Some have even granted permission for its recreational use. Few have not gone as far as to legalize it but have decriminalized it.
With this change of laws, the market for cannabis extraction is expected to shoot up. One major reason for this legalization wave is the tide of public opinion turning in its favour as more and more are waking up to cannabis’ fantastic medicinal properties.
Cannabis is classified into two broad types:
Hemp is cannabis with less than 0.3% of dry weight of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC); and
Marijuana contains 0.3% or more by dry weight of THC.
Two of the best known cannabinoids (compounds in cannabis) are Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC. CBD offers a host of health benefits and is not psychoactive i.e. it does not get the user in the hyperactive state - generally referred to as “getting high.” THC also offers some health benefits, but is psychoactive.
This is the reason why hemp is legal or is becoming legitimate in many parts of the world while marijuana is still prohibited.
One of the best methods for cannabis extraction is the supercritical extraction procedure. More correctly, it is the supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE) process. It uses a supercritical fluid (SCF) for this purpose. The solvent power i.e. capacity of the SCF to dissolve cannabinoids is greater at high pressure and vice versa.
In supercritical extraction:
SCF separates the required cannabinoids (usually CBD) from cannabis plant material at high pressure.
Cannabinoids come out of solution from the SCF at low pressure.
Such a pressure differential action means that the supercritical extraction is able to obtain cannabinoids in their relatively pure form. The purer they are, the more effective they become is providing the benevolent health effects discussed below.
CBD fights off multiple health conditions such as:
Pain
Anxiety and Depression
Mental Illness or Psychosis
Migraines
Inflammation
Nausea
Seizures
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Side effects of CBD are incidental and a result of CBD reacting with medications that the patient is already consuming.
THC also fights back:
Pain
Anxiety
Nausea
Insomnia / Sleeplessness
Muscle Spasticity
Low Appetite
Glaucoma
However, THC produces a whole lot of side effects that include:
Memory Loss
Faster Heartbeats
Delayed Reflexes
Dry Mouth
Red Eyes
Coordination Issues

Apart from pressure, temperature, and flow control, which features improve the utility of a SCFE system
Tumblr media
Following features improve the utility of a supercritical fluid extraction system- in addition to pressure, temperature, and flow control - that is in addition to pressure, temperature, and flow rate:
● Co-solvent Pump
● Automation
● Intuitive User Interface
● Ergonomics
SCFE, also called supercritical extraction, uses a supercritical fluid (SCF) for the purpose of separating the required compound (called target molecule). An SCF is one that is at a :
● Pressure above its critical pressure; and
● Temperature above its critical temperature.
In the supercritical state, the solvent power of the fluid depends on its pressure. Solvent power is the capacity to dissolve the required target molecule. Solvent power of the supercritical fluid rises with pressure and vice versa. The same is true of the relationship between its solvent power and temperature.
More importantly, at a set pressure (and / or temperature), the SCF will dissolve only one particular target molecule while leaving other compounds in the raw material relatively untouched. This has a direct bearing on the accuracy of the process, and this is the reason why pressure and temperature control are so crucial to the success of supercritical extraction.
Flow control is important because it controls the amount of time the supercritical fluid will be in touch with the raw material. It has a direct impact on the yield, efficiency, and mass transfer rate.
Let us now consider the other factors:
● Co-solvent Pump: Is a useful addition to the SCFE setup for diversifying the compounds that can be extracted. It adds a co-solvent to the supercritical fluid in the required proportion.
Take the case of SCFE using carbon dioxide (CO2) i.e. CO2 SCFE. Supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) is good at isolating non-polar compounds from raw materials. Addition of co-solvents such as ethanol, water, and methanol in minor quantities makes it capable of extracting polar compounds as well.
● Automation: Ensures the error free operation of supercritical extraction, or any other engineering system for that matter. During the addition of co-solvent via the co-solvent pump for example, automation mixes it in the required proportion.
Top SCFE equipment manufacturers use rapid extractor changeover valves to minimize downtime, something that automation makes possible.
These are just a couple of examples. The benefits of automation extend across the entire installation in the form of greater productivity, efficiency, and safety. Extractors in the SCFE set up operate at higher pressure and separators at lower pressure. Pressure control and change is absolutely necessary for the success of extraction - something which automation deals with effortlessly.
● Intuitive User Interface: Helps the operator better understand the process flow. This way, the operator is at ease when in front of the interface. Please note, setups have their own design and workflow. Grasping their nitty gritty is essential to monitor and control them in an improved manner.
● Ergonomics: Relates to operator comfort. A simple consideration will be the location of extractors and separators. If they are so positioned that it is easy to load and unload them, we have an ergonomic design. At least, in part.

My 9yr old niece got diagnosed with Skiffy (SCFE) on Friday and literally just got outta of an emergency operation on her hips 20mins ago. She's in recovery and is doing well 🙏
I've just been shell shocked, this all happened so suddenly. I can't even visit her because of the precautions over COVID-19...
I just want to smash something, or cry, or both. But I am grateful that my family has got this far in the process.

Duplicity
@keep-ycu-scfe Liked the thing for a thing.
The Narrows was ill-kept, grimy, questionably dangerous, but simple and straight forward as far as Ed was concerned.  It suited him, all things considered, at least while he... got a grip on his... delemma.  One day at a time. One match at a time. One win at a time, building himself up with Grundy’s fists in some sense of importance without really holding any actual threat or liability or power, really... but it was enough for Ed’s bruised Ego, at present.
What else was a simpleton let loose into the wild supposed to do with himself?
The match had ended, again with a win, although the wall of chalky meat needed patching up again, left in Dr. Thompkin’s care when Ed stepped outside for a bit of fresh air, immensely pleased with himself and perhaps a drink or two too many in his system. He had reason to celebrate, after all, Lee had agreed to fix him, and the more money he brought in for Cherry, the more that helped the process- he was on a fast track to landing on his feet.  The plan was working.
Maybe not as much of an idiot as he thought.
Now, his little side-show, that was purely spite and fun. He wondered if Oswald had caught wind of it, yet, what his face must have looked like-
Ed stopped dead in his tracks as he stood in the dark alley, gaping at the only other soul on the street.
“O-Oswald!! I... ah-!” His paled look of panic turned to one of slight confusion as he got a slightly better look at the man, “Did you bleach your hair?”

Robyn is perched outside of Edward's apartment, debating on whether or not he should just walk in since he had been here before or simply knock on the door. He was brought here by sheer curiosity, his mind have been boggling with thoughts since he had last seen the man. Though it was nothing in regards to their actual alliance and the business they conducted, it still felt somehow, important. With a small sigh he moved to knock on the door, not allowing the other (1/2)
time to speak or even process who was at the door, “Can you tell me more riddles?” Robyn inquired instantly, green gaze peering up at the other, “I would like to know more.” He stated as an offhanded explanation.
@keep-ycu-scfe
❝...Why?❞ Even though Robyn, unlike all the others was not incredibly rude to him when it came to his riddles, Ed certainly did not expect him or anyone really, to be interested in more riddles. So naturally, he assumes that the other wants something from him. Not that he will not take advantage of it for now. ❝Very well then.❞ he clapped once and grinned ❝When you do not know what I am, then I am something. When you know what I am, then I am nothing. What am I? ❞

Explain the difference between hemp and marijuana, and the role of post extraction processing of cannabis
Tumblr media
Hemp is the non psychoactive version of cannabis while marijuana is its psychoactive version. This is of course the simple answer. The devil, as they say, is in the detail. So, let us examine them. The difference is of critical importance to cannabis extraction equipment makers and cannabis product manufacturers.
Cannabis can be:
Hemp that has less than 0.3% (dry weight) of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC); or
Marijuana with 0.3% THC or more by dry weight.
Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC are among the most well known cannabinoids i.e. compounds in cannabis. While CBD delivers a great many health benefits, THC is psychoactive i.e. it gets the user in a hyper excited state. Such a state is what we commonly referred to as “getting high.” CBD does not do get the user high. Neither does it produce any side effects, which THC does.
Cannabis extraction equipment manufacturers have to possess an absolutely categorical understanding of this difference. This is because while hemp is legal in many countries, states, territories, and regions, marijuana is not. Moreover, some jurisdictions allow cannabis products with 0% THC. They will not even tolerate those with 0.3% THC - these will be seized at the entry point meaning losses and litigation for the product makers.
Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE) is one of the most popular processes that cannabis extraction equipment manufacturers tend to employ. It uses a supercritical fluid (SCF). Solvent power or capacity of the SCF to dissolve the required compound is:
High at high pressure; and
Low at low pressure.
Pressure dependent solvent power means the SCF is able to dissolves the required compound (CBD in this case) at high pressure and releases the same from solution at lower pressure. This minimizes the chances of contamination of the required compound by other compounds present in the raw material (cannabis plant in this case).
Despite the accuracy inbuilt into the supercritical fluid extraction procedure, some
other compounds get separated along with the required compound - say THC gets extracted with CBD. It is here that the post extraction process for cannabis comes into play. Its objectives are to:
Maximize CBD content in the extract.
Minimize or eliminate THC content.
Retain traces of flavonoids and terpenes which impart a peculiar and in-demand flavour and aroma to the extract.
Eliminate waxes, lipids, and fats.
Post extraction processes are:
Winterization
Decarboxylation
Distillation
Chromatography

Relative merits and demerits of various processes used in decaffeination
Tumblr media
Decaffeination is the removal of caffeine from coffee beans to the extent that 1 kg of coffee beans contains 1 gram of caffeine at the most. This is, of course, the official definition of decaffeination. Many others exist. Some define decaffeination of coffee and teas as the process that eliminates 97% caffeine from caffeine containing materials such as coffee beans, cocoa, and tea leaves.
What caffeine does is block adenosine, the latter being the hormone that slows down the body. C8H10N4O2 is the chemical formula for caffeine and its blocking of adenosine generates the two following effects:
Controlled consumption: Stimulating the body by lowering fatigue and boosting concentration
Excessive consumption: Nervousness, insomnia, mood swings, and hostility.
The reason why many prefer drinking decaffeinated tea and coffee is that it refreshes while avoiding the pitfalls inherent in over consumption.
Decaffeination of coffee is carried out using the following four methods:
Carbon dioxide Supercritical Fluid Extraction (CO2 SCFE)
Swiss Water Process
Ethyl Acetate Decaffeination
Methylene Chloride Decaffeination
For decaffeination of tea, the following processes are utilized:
Carbon dioxide Supercritical Fluid Extraction (CO2 SCFE)
Ethyl Acetate Decaffeination
Methylene Chloride Decaffeination
CO2 decaf coffee and CO2 decaffeinated tea refer respectively to coffee and tea obtained via the CO2 SCFE process. In the process, carbon dioxide is first transformed into its supercritical state i.e. where its pressure and temperature are respectively above its critical pressure and temperature. In this state, the solvent power of CO2 is very specific - at a particular pressure, it will only extract one particular compound (called target molecule - caffeine in this case).
Because CO2 SCFE does not remove other molecules from the caffeine containing raw material - these other molecules add value - CO2 decaf coffee and CO2 decaffeinated tea contain these other, useful molecules. It is for this reason that CO2 SCFE is used for decaffeination of tea and coffee since the 1970s.
On the down side, however, CO2 decaf coffee and CO2 decaffeinated tea is somewhat expensive to produce, given the associated costs for equipment set up and operations.
In methyl chloride decaffeination, coffee beans or tea leaves are first brought in contact with water and steam. Methyl chloride removes caffeine. Some amount of methyl chloride does get associated with the coffee beans. This amount is very low - about 1 ppm (parts per million) - and the permissible US FDA cap is 10 ppm. Nevertheless, the purity is affected. Ethyl acetate has a similar action for decaffeination.
Decaffeination of coffee is also carried out via the Swiss Process. It washes green coffee beans with water to remove caffeine. The water is then passed through charcoal filters and reused to wash fresh green coffee beans. The reuse of water ensures that the other useful molecules do not get removed from the beans.
In the context of this discussion, it is easy to see why CO2 decaf coffee and CO2 decaffeinated tea are better options - purity! More so, if the manufacturers are looking to develop premium decaf tea and coffee brands for customers who do not mind shelling out a few more dollars for enjoying a pristine drink.

Industrial application of supercritical fluid extraction process
Industrial application of supercritical fluid extraction process
The special properties of supercritical fluids bring certain advantages to chemical separation processes. Several applications have been fully developed and commercialized.
Nutraceuticals
The Nutraceutical market is still a nascent market with potential for revenue in the coming years. In particular, the most interesting areas of Nutraceutical products are pointed in the products with effect in the immunological system, cancer risk, cardiovascular illness and elevated levels of cholesterol in the blood. SCFE provides interesting alternatives for development of Nutraceuticals. Its capacity can be considered as a strategic property. With SCFE technology it is feasible to remove solvent traces, aromas, flavors, fats etc.
Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals
Pharmaceutical industries as well as chemical industries are changing some of these traditional practices to accomplish fresh green goals. Thus extraction with carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions constitutes an emerging technology in terms of environmental impact.
Food and Flavoring- Extraction of natural spices
A very successful application of supercritical fluid extraction technique is the distillation of natural spices. Supercritical fluid extraction has the ability of high dissolution, high extraction yield and is efficient. CO2 is used as the extraction agent, the products are non toxic, leaves no residues, their color and fragrance are excellent. - Essential oils obtained from plant matrix form the basis of many pharmaceutical compounds in use nowadays and are the raw materials of flavors and fragrances. However, the traditional methods for extraction, such as hydro distillation, steam distillation, solvent extraction, and simultaneous distillation extraction are time consuming, labor intensive, and may violate new stringent environmental regulations. Thus supercritical fluid extraction is a viable alternative for many applications including essential oils extraction from herbs.
Natural products, especially essential oils that are aromatic liquids separated from herbal plants, represent the main raw materials for flavor, fragrances and pharmaceuticals. Flavoring and fragrance ingredients are the most numerous single group of international additives used by the food and personal care industries. Their market growth rate is increasing with time on an international level. The WHO regulations are changing to be strict, to safeguard the human health and a survey has been issued indicating that about 70-80% of the world populations rely on nonconventional medicine mainly of herbal sources in their primary health care. In time, traditional separation techniques such as hydro distillation, steam distillation, solvent extraction, and simultaneous distillation extraction need to be substituted by sustainable and green separation techniques.

Decaffeination of coffee and tea
Tumblr media
Most of us enjoy drinking coffee and tea makes us fresh. Tea and coffee contain caffeine whose molecular structure is remarkably similar to that of adenosine - the hormone that slows down the body. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine and hence the freshening up effect. Specifically speaking:
Caffeine intake improves focus and lowers fatigue.
Excessive caffeine consumption causes insomnia, nervousness, and mood swings. Hostility is an extreme effect.
Decaffeination of coffee and tea came into being to allow people to enjoy their regular cup of tea and coffee while not disturbing their sleep patterns. But that is not all. Decaffeinated coffee and tea offers a host of health benefits, such as:
Degenerative brain disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s.
Avoiding heart disorders and cancer.
Bringing down the risk of death from heart disease and stroke, high quantities of liver enzyme levels, and early death.
Lowering the probability of getting rectal cancer and heartburn. Frequent coffee drinkers often feel heartburn, which is also called as acid reflux.
One kg of coffee beans with less than one gram of caffeine officially qualifies as decaffeinated coffee. Other sources define decaffeination as the elimination of between 97% caffeine from coffee beans, cocoa, tea leaves and other such sources of coffee.
It was way back in 1903 that Ludwig Roselius, the chief of Kaffee HAG, came up with the first practical decaffeination process. Supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) has increasingly decaffeinated coffee since the 1970s.
Decaffeination of coffee is carried out by employing:
Carbon dioxide Supercritical Fluid Extraction(CO2 SCFE)
Swiss Water Process
Ethyl Acetate Decaffeination
Methylene Chloride Decaffeination
Tea decaffeination utilizes:
Carbon dioxide Supercritical Fluid Extraction(CO2 SCFE)
Ethyl Acetate Decaffeination
Methylene Chloride Decaffeination
Carbon dioxide decaf coffee i.e. coffee decaffeinated using the CO2 SCFE process is a great method to remove caffeine. This is because the process is highly selective. At high pressure, caffeine dissolves in sCO2. The dissolved caffeine comes out of solution at low pressure. The process does not remove other molecules from the raw material (coffee beans, cocoa, tea leaves etc.). The same is true for CO2 decaf tea.
These other molecules provide nutritional value. Therefore, when the decaffeinated raw material is later used to make tea or coffee, it will:
Deliver all health benefits of these other molecules.
Counter the effects of excessive caffeine intake.
This is like the proverbial “running with the hare and hunting with the hounds!”
Decaffeination of coffee and tea is also carried out via methyl chloride by exposing steam and water washed beans to it. Traces (up to 1 part per million or 1 ppm) of these solvents get attached to the beans though. The regulatory cap on methyl chloride in commercially sold coffee is 10 ppm. Methyl chloride traces are lower than the mandated upper limit, but clearly carbon dioxide decaf coffee and CO2 decaf tea are better options.
Swiss water process retains these other molecules by reusing the water used to decaffeinate green coffee beans to wash fresh beans. Caffeine is removed from the water before reusing.
Carbon dioxide decaf coffee and CO2 decaf tea are the outputs of the CO2 SCFE process which offers excellent parameter control resulting in more targeted decaffeination. For this reason, these are preferred.

I kinda can’t believe DMC and Senua’s Sacrifice are by the same Dev team
I’ll preface this by saying I actually really liked DMC as a game. It had really tight, satisfying combat, the limbo visuals and level design were pretty cool, and a lot of it was just stupid and over the top enough to be really fun.
But when we get down to brass tacks, DMC’s story has some fun moments and interesting bits peppered in, but was mostly pretty garbage. Dante is unengaging, although he does at-least grow from being super obnoxious to somewhat likable by the end. The entire opening cinematic with mundus in his penthouse and dante in the club is actually painful to listen to and looks like shit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCFE-Eg_oMc). Vergil and Kat are passable, but largely forgettable (though Vergil’s story DLC round’s him out a little). The whole thing is big and stupid and often fun, but lacks any real nuance or depth. It’s the experience of playing a B action movie basically.
Fast forward to Senua’s sacrifice and I’m hardpressed to believe it was the same people. The gameplay is vastly simpler than DMC, but still very engaging and satisfying, inside combat and out. The quality of the writing and presentation on the other hand goes through the roof. In the cinematics especially, but even in a lot of the gameplay rendered parts, Senua’s Sacrifice has some of the most detailed and gorgeous graphics I’ve ever seen. Obviously some of the difference there can be attributed to technology, but DMC came out in 2013, only 4 years before Senua. In addition, they make really good use of a claustrophobic POV, especially in combats to make you hyperfocused on the details, and forced to use a combination of situational awareness and positioning just to try and keep track of enemies and keep from being swarmed. They also do away with any kind of HUD throughout the game, and substitute audio and visual ques in really smooth natural ways that add to the experience of being Senua.
And the writing is just really really good. The basic plot outline, without major spoilers, is that Senua is a pict warrior around the time of the viking invasions, who suffers from psychosis, and goes on a vision quest to save her husbands soul from Hel. The story is well paced, and often gripping and arresting to the point where I can’t look away. They also make you feel actively involved in a lot of the scenes by having Senua addressing or focused on the camera, which could easily have been hamfisted and awkward, but works fantastically. Senua’s overall arc, as you find out more about her life and watch her grow over the course of the quest, is genuinely really touching and consistently hit me hard in ways most games only manage once or twice at best.
Interesting and importantly, part of what makes Senua’s Sacrifice so unique and good is how hard they worked to accurately portray psychosis, something that all too often is played off as either a punchline (something something voices haha) or as part of our cultures deeprooted fear and stigma of neurodivergent people. The studio worked closely with both leading researchers in the study of psychosis, and many people who actually have psychosis, involving them directly in the creative process. They interviewed them about their lived experiences, and incorporated a wide variety of experiences into the game, as well as involving them in the play-testing and refinement of the game over the course of the project. The result is arguably THE best representation of psychosis that exists, which is really important in unfucking the way our society views neurodivergent people. Representation leads to empathy, and I don’t think you can play through Senua’s Sacrifice without loving Senua and rooting for everyone like her.
PS. I’m sorry @ my friends who have had to listen to me rant about this several times at this point
