The romanticism of the wound is fascinating; is it a form of narcissism to feel like no one else is familiar with this particular opening? It is stupid, either way. So many know this exact measurement; it's penetration, it's slice, it's exit. This has been the most trying, exhausting, eye opening month of my life. I think the important thing is: How do you react to what's pooling at your feet? I'm collecting cells by the bucket, cupped hands, red as beets; fisting it back into holes it came from. I won't be put on trial for lack of effort and that gives me comfort, somehow.
