First you procrastinate on the task because it is not a big enough deal to get done urgently. Then you procrastinate on the task because it has become such a big deal that doing it is overwhelming. You would think that this implies a middle point where it is just big enough of a deal to get done easily, however the inherent perversity of the universe's causal geometry prevents this

a post-doc was doing a guest seminar at my institute and at the beginning of his presentation he was explaining why he chose birds for his evolutionary analysis - so he said "well first of all, because birds are the best and most interesting animals and it's fun to study them" and a few professors in the room gave him a very serious nod

A chill ran down Petrocchus’ spine. “You are not about to tell me,” he said, slow, deliberate, “That you’ve got a black hole somewhere.” Their silence was the only answer he needed. “Christ on a bike.” He reached for his beer, realized it was empty, and put it down harder than necessary. “No. Absolutely not. This is like the plot of every bad sci-fi movie ever, and I am not getting involved.”

I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth

my new strategy for having less anxiety while cashiering is to pretend the customers are birds and I have to be calm so they don’t pick up on my tension and fly away

are you actually more empathetic & considerate than all of your friends or did you grow up forced to cater to and mediate the emotions of adults & everyone else around you and now you’re hypervigilant & prone to fawning and holding people in your life to the standard of your trauma coping mechanisms—a standard you yourself shouldn’t be held to

Was driving home while my roommate was in the passenger seat on a zoom call and one of the people on the call started showing off his pet arthropods and lizards and I couldn’t look because I was driving so I was just banging on the steering wheel in the most adhd agony while this guy talked about all the cool animals he was showing and my roommate was just laughing. No sympathy for my struggle.
