I hatched an XXX from one of my STP pairs! Obsidian too!
She shall go on to be half of another STP pair, but not until the Wind ancient drops.

idk I like them
I wish the babies were in a bit of a different pose, it's not the easiest to read at a glance, but the design itself is solid! Idk what everyone's complaining about.
Was surprisingly difficult to scry my Moon/Metals/Buttercup who's a natural Primal, but I got there in the end. Might end up switching the Chryso for something else, but not until we get a gene expansion. Nothing else really fit.
Now I just need Wind to complete my collection :D
Maybe I'll actually give my permababy flight reps gijinkas, like I wanted to when I started collecting. And maybe remake the ones I had before (2 of them).
My Stock the Pond scries! They've got both sides of the color wheel, so hopefully the Rift/Eclosions will stand out!
No idea what I want for the nicer breeding pair yet. I know I want one. I still haven't finished my Dusthide pair, so I definitely can't use any gem genes.

All my dusthide plans are rare color combos, w h y do I do this to myself?? I'm going to need an entire breeding project for ALL of these!
Coal/Fire/Carrot, Coal/Terracotta/Terracotta
Clay/Brown Range/Heather, but I might go for a pink or pale green accent, try to match the tiny multicolor pixels in the Primal.

I got a new job (it's not so new anymore) and my poor hatchery is flagging. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it going. I'll definitely still be breeding dragons and selling them, but I haven't had the will to make the hatchling cards.
I'll probably debate a bit on whether or not to actually shut it down, just use the thread for pinglists (and only make cards for pairs with people on their pinglists), or something else.
It's just starting to feel like a chore, and I don't want FR to feel like a chore.
If it does get shut down, it lasted about 4 months. Not my longest hatchery tbh, but longer than I thought it was going to last.

Wasn't expecting Earth ancients next, but I won't complain about pillbug/ankylosaur dragons! Especially if they don't have wings.
I still want a geode themed tertiary though. I don't care if it's a gem gene or as frustrating to get as Blossom.

I made a Stock the Pond pair for every single ancient! Got some warm ranges, some cool ranges and some that have primaries & secondaries in a different range than the tertiaries!
Most of these dragons got full makeovers, half of them including breed changes, but I really didn't want to fork out 4kg for my veils and sandies so I just grabbed the first max-range pair of triples I could find on the auction house. I didn't escape the gem genes entirely though, I bought a Space, a Monarch and a Wraith.
I also eagerly await an Aether gene expansion, I didn't want both of mine to have cinder/blaze, but I wanted to keep Magma as is, and her mate didn't really work with any of the other genes enough to change them.
I want to get a StP pair for every future ancient too, so I'll probably hunt around for more experimental breeding pairs while I wait.

Started up a sketch shop (again) on the FR forums! This time with real, actual money instead of raw dragon cash. It's just sketches though, I don't want to do FR dragon paintings for anything less than a whole $70 for a dragon that's got genes like Iridescent or Fade and like, one piece of apparel.
Anyway, prices are between $7 and $33 (starts at headshots and ends at fullbodies with rough colors/shading).
Dragons in the example sketches are Jaiden and her mate Pinefrost!

I did the math and oh no, if I did a little lair purge and focused on unlocking the rest of my Hibden slots, I could get an XXX pair of every single color. I could do it without the purge or extra hibden slots, but it'd be cramped. And I won't have much space for fodder either way.
I don't want a new giant quest. Why is my brain like this?

Finally got my double Radioactive Harlequin/Jester boy a mate! Her name is Amaranth, and I spent the minimum I could on her, which was still an entire Skydancer scroll, and several months worth of breeding project. Still less than the three entire gem genes I bought for her mate.
They've got a pretty tiny color range, but 100% different genes, so I won't get bored!
Though, if the next modern gem genes are nice, Amaranth might get them.
Here's the pinglist for their hatchlings! They've got a nest going right now, and prices will probably start off around 50g/kt for kids that have both Harlequin/Jester or 25g/kt for kids that have only one or neither of those.

Funny story, I've apparently had a pair of sisters in my lair I was completely unaware of, for at least three years.
I was trying to remember if one of them had been a breeding project of mine (she wasn't), and saw the name of her parent's second kid, the same name as one of my other dragons. I clicked through to take a look out of curiosity and it was my dragon
what the fuck

taking bets on how long my new (unfinished, unposted) hatchery will last
the first one lasted from march 2017 to march 2018 (though there was a break for a few months in there, I definitely redid it at least once)
the second one lasted from febuary 2019 to october 2020 (there was also several thread recycling incidents for this one but I can't be assed to go through and find the timestamps)

I got all the pair cards done, gods that took forever. Lucky for me, I still had the pair template for my last hatchery lying around, and it's (probably) faster to make then the fancy ones.
Mine's pretty modular, it's mostly BBcode with an image for colors and an image with 2-4 hatchling possibilities, all the gene odds are in regular text so I can change them on a whim and only have to redo the hatchling possibilities.
I also did a mini lair purge, and also realized that I don't really want either of my Aether pairs in a hatchery (the babies aren't. that great, even if I like the dragons themselves). One of them has been designated as a fodder pair, and the other is in limbo (I'll get a new mate for at least one dragon from the second pair eventually). I still have 41 proper pairs (and 3 stock the pond adjacent pairs).
Now I gotta figure out if I want to make graphics or not. and how to make the graphics if I do (there is no theme. how do you make nice graphics with NO THEME or THROUGHLINE)
I also have to set up the thread and figure out the new pinglist system (which is probably really great for regular size hatcheries, but a little overwhelming for me)

I guess I gotta at least try to make a hatchery again
Ok so I just rearranged my lair to have a rotating stock of breeding pairs (cycling through my hibden so I can fit m o r e), should I make a hatchery thread on the forums? I've had them before, but I always ended up ditching them after a while. It's really tempting to make a new one, even though it might be a bad idea.
The biggest problem is I love pretty breeding pairs and I have almost 50 of them, not including WIP pairs and pairs I'd like to have. That's a lot to deal with in a hatchery.
Highlights of my breeding pairs that I don't think I've shown off on my blog recently:
There's no throughline aesthetic or anything, just dragons I think are neat.

short list of pairs I want, but haven't made any effort to get yet:
mist fade/dark purple range secondary & tertiary with shiny genes, and a mate that makes pretty fade babies (probably Heather, but has a different set of genes)
sky/splash/dark blue range imp F with iridescent/jester/runes, and an imp M with a nice color range with her and a gem secondary.
a neat scuttle/some other tertiary (probably rockbreaker or branches) auraboa pair, not sure about color range yet, maybe whites and reds?
something that makes nice firebreathers.
iridescent/x gem gene/wish
something brown with fade or iridescent and pretty blue runes

anyway this is my nature primal permababy scry, his name is Waterlily and he's going to cost me a pretty penny. I think he'll be worth it!
