Apart from that he seemed genuinely pleasant and easy to get along with - although she’d met enough Scotsmen in her time, both at home in England and beyond, to know that in the right circumstances that might change.

At ‘new ensign’ the tip of her tongue nudged into her lip; no need to regale him with her life story, but … “Yes, in some ways. This is actually my second tilt in Starfleet, but this side of things I’m still learning.” And really, she couldn’t ask for a better person to learn from, even if only half the stories were true. But then he asked the question, and the insides of her cheeks pulled sharply in to hold down a laugh.

“I’ve met Dr McCoy already, for my baseline physical when I transferred over. And the First Officer, but only for a moment. Why?” She was certain he was at least mostly joking, and a smile crept in as she waited to hear the rest.

Scott looked pretty serious when he heard that she had already had a baseline physical with McCoy “I'm so sorry, if I'd known ye were coming I would have shown ye the best places to hide from a physical! “ He said as if it was something to be really proud of “I managed to help the captain go almost 1 month without his physical exam! Incredible isn't it? I'm sorry I couldn't help ye ------ Well, the doctor can seem grumpy because he’s actually grumpy, so I advise ye to try not to piss him off, maybe buy him a drink now and then and maybe he won't inject ye with a hypo without a warning, maybe .”

Since Scott was the chief engineer he saw himself in the duty of alerting all the new engineers on the ship about some crew members, normally he asked Keenser to send an email to everyone, but since they are already talking

“Okay, the first mate’s a vulcan, whenever ye have a deadline he'll be bothering ye sayin’ the time, he's some kind of cuckoo clock, so whenever ye need to finish something in 2 hours say ye need 2 hours and a half. Our navigator is young and likes to make jokes about Russia, oh! Right! Nyota!!! She's extremely friendly but don't piss her off, I already got a black eye.”

Scott crossed his arms thinking “Same with Sulu... Any question ?"

Scott initially couldn't hold back his laughter, that was a joke, right? It couldn't be true, if it wasn't a joke maybe this was all a dream? No, Scott couldn't have been frozen for so long, this must all be a joke, he kept laughing for a while until finally the laughter died down, the smile faded and little by little the denial disappeared, he was remembering now, remembering everything.

A ship with some ambassadors had been attacked, Scott as an engineer was on the ship to fix things, McCoy as a doctor was taking care of the ambassadors, Kirk was talking to them and Spock was helping, but the ship ended up being taken over by terrorists, in the In the end, almost everyone managed to teleport out of the ship before it exploded in the middle of a warp, the only ones who stayed on the ship had been him and McCoy and both managed to enter a cryogenic tubes and still in the middle of the warp Scott had launched both tubes out of the ship, this explained how no one had found him until now, but it's still a long time.

Scott was no longer listening to what the captain was saying, all the information running through his head was too loud even for him, he had been frozen for so long, what had happened to his friends? Were they okay? Were they alive? Scott didn't seem to be able to hear or see anyone anymore at this point, he was lost in his own thoughts, the whole situation was too tiring, what about his family? How were they?

    Promptly, the Commander discontinued issuing his answer and comically closed his mouth, resembling an osteichthyes gasping at the surface for oxygen.

    ‘A very long time, Sir,’ Data corrected himself, realising that his estimation could be radically devastating to someone who had been residing in a cryogenic tube for such an extensive period of time.

    The Enterprise crew had transported the cryo tube on board during a routine survey mission of the Orion Nebula. The ship’s long range sensors had detected anomalous readings, and when they succeeded in converting the obtained figures to an intelligible code that corresponded to a 23rd century stasis pod, the Captain had given the orders to secure the object and examine it. Although they had anticipated that it would accommodate a humanoid, they did not expect the passenger to be Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott, Captain Kirk’s Chief Engineer.

    ‘Mister Scott, I am Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the starship Enterprise-D,’ the Captain introduced himself, having regained his composure. ‘These are my First Officer, Commander William T. Riker, my Chief Operations officer, Lieutenant Commander Data, and my Chief Medical officer, Doctor Beverly Crusher,’ he continued with equanimity, gesturing to the senior officers respectively. ‘To capsulise your situation; you were found in a cryogenic tube in the Orion Nebula, and as Commander Data already mentioned, you’ve been asleep for quite some time.’

    The servomechanisms in Data’s neck canting his head mechanically to the right while his yellow eyes analysed the 23rd century Engineer’s facial expression with great inquisitiveness. How would he respond to this announcement?
