no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.

fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.

Chapter Summary/Preview:

He tsked. “Your impatience does you little credit. This is a slow process made slower by your squirming — and the extreme depletion of your mana. Are you uncomfortable?”

“Can’t you hurry it up?” she snapped, ignoring his question. Uncomfortable was one word to describe how she was feeling, but there were others, too. Ones that she didn’t want to admit to aloud: arousal, for one thing, and hunger — an insatiable, dark hunger that could only have originated from the blood curse, and was growing discontent with the slow, steady drip of magic Solas was feeding into it. She tried to focus on her breathing.

One breath in, another out. One breath in, another out.

His hands skimmed the tops of her breasts where the eyes of the vallaslin lay, and she shuddered and shifted away from him as the low burning in her belly ignited into something more intense and difficult to ignore.

 “This is a delicate process—” he began to explain, to chastise her once more for her impatience and her restlessness, when Elowyn’s tenuous grip on the curse broke. It surged through their connection and sunk its teeth into Solas’ mana, drinking greedily, and drinking deep. 

Solas grunted, his teeth gnashing together as he wrestled with the curse, his magic rising to take control of it once more and subdue it. 

Elowyn could do nothing to help him. Or herself.

“I do,” she agreed, the words barely audible hissed as they were between clenched teeth. She had yet to look at him.

 “Do you swear to submit yourself to his authority, to obey his every command and fulfill his every desire, until your spirit passes beyond or he frees you from his service?” Elgar’nan continued, his gaze flicking to Solas.

“I do,” she repeated, her voice wavering ever so slightly. Tears brimmed in the corners of her eyes as she raised her hand, and Elgar’nan drew the ribbon around their wrists.

Our long awaited week of DreadRook delights is approaching and quickly!

We love sharing the excitement with everyone who’s already working on prompts, and we just want to give you all a heads up that there’s three weeks left until DreadRook Week starts!

A bit frantic, very much excited and altogether hyped, we’re looking forward to all your wonderful creations!

sometimes reading fanfic is like enjoying a gourmet tasting menu from a team of expert chefs who all have different styles and approaches to a favorite cuisine

and sometimes reading fanfic is like standing in front of the open fridge at three in the morning shoving handfuls of shredded cheese into your mouth

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.

I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!

From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!

I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.

Edit: Yes, this also works on mobile!

The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.

(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)

If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.

The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.

insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box

add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box

delete -> self explanatory

on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic

The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.

Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.
