math, computer science, economics, game development - this blog doesn't have a set genre, I'll just ramble about the stuff I find interesting!

It's been a while...
Wow, it's been a while since I last wrote here... A lots has changed since my last post, I finished school in November, had a pretty unproductive holiday, and have now started university studying Mathematical Science, if I'm completely honest, it hasn't been the most fulfilling experience so far, just a boring slog doing the same classes I took last year, hopefully it gets better soon.
In terms of projects, I am now a member of Minecraft@Home, which has been pretty fun, I've worked on some cool stuff including finding the seed to DanTDM's new Minecraft let's play world, and, more recently applying lattice reduction to finding large diamond veins, and searching for seeds without any villages near spawn making use of the MC@H BOINC network, it's been a pretty fun time and I've learnt a lot.
I hope to update this blog somewhere between daily and weekly from here on out, just talking about anything interesting I work on :D

Working hard
The last couple weeks have been a grind. Friends and I have gotten in the routine of waking up at 4am most mornings, studying, going to school, studying, coming home, studying. Feels like the first time I'm really putting substantial effort into school if I'm honest. Obviously this doesn't leave a lot of time for anything else.
Putting the odd couple hours into programming here and there but it ain't what it used to be. Managed to make some headway on that Minecraft Beta nostalgia based image viewer thingy.
Simply hit next to get a new nostalgic image! All data is being scraped from r/GoldenAgeMinecraft using a custom scraper (screw you reddit API!) Will hopefully get round to publishing over the weekend, then maybe I can investigate that Monero idea :O

An opportunity :O
Recently localmonero, a platform for trading the cryptocurrency Monero closed it's doors, having used the service in the past, seeing it shutdown is a massive shame. Although it does open an opportunity to make a replacement site... seriously considering doing this, been looking for some challenging programming, this could be exactly what i'm looking for.

Lol
Just noticed it was around this time last year that I started actively writing here, only to stop like a month later, lets see if I can do better this time.

We're so back
Alright, time to revive this blog once and for all. Been extremely busy lately with school, working very hard for an upcoming math exam which will luckily be over tomorrow, gosh I hope it goes well, today I got an itch to work on something, because of time limitations it probably won't be something big, just something other than school to keep my mind occupied.
Was thinking it would be cool to scrape images off r/GoldenAgeMinecraft and make a site inspired by thepersondoesnotexist.com where every time you refresh you get a new nostalgia inducing image. Could also maybe hook it up to a nice public API. We'll see how it comes, development shall begin tomorrow.

About time this thing got revived.
This blog has been dead for way too long, I used to really enjoy writing here but I guess over time just became busy with other stuff, it's time for that too change. Will try to blog every day about something interesting, probably won't be on a singular topic, wherever the mood takes me!

Dead blog, once again D:
Damn! This blog died again, I've been quite busy with exams and other stuff lately which is probably the reason why.

Day 1
Day 1 complete and I would call it a success! My teammate RoboMarchello (https://robomarchello.itch.io/) and I made good progress, in the morning robo went ahead and got the project structure setup, I wasn't available to work until later on in the day when I got some basic planets and minimap going!

Dead again :(
Damn I accidentally let my blog die again, hopefully that will be the last time, since the last one progress on Magnox has slowed D: I have been experimenting with a whole bunch of smaller prototype projects. I also worked on revamping my old glsl shader module. Anyways i'm probably going to revive Magnox again sometime soon, however before that i'm going to be participating in the upcoming Pygame Community Summer Jam - https://itch.io/jam/pygame-community-summer-jam-2023 will be blogging the whole thing! =D

Rabbits!
It's been a couple days since my last update here, sorry about that, things have been far from quiet in terms of development progress. Here is a brief overview:
Accounts! With authentication, databases, all that fun stuff
Server side rabbits (as seen in screenshot) (more animals coming soon)
Item drops! You can now mine items and have them drop resources (all nicely configurable with some json files)
A plethora of server/client changes.
If you happen to be reading this within the first couple hours of positing, I am currently hosting the new website via an ngrok localhost tunnel here: http://0.tcp.ap.ngrok.io:15944/ try signing up and making an account!

YAY! The new networking protocol actually fixes what it set out to fix
Chunk generation and player movement are now working solidly over the network, not much lag in other players movements. Fast chunk generation, its all coming together. As interesting as networking is, im going to take a break from it now and work on some more gameplay-y stuff :D

Its official: Chunk generation is fast enough!
Chunk generation is finally fast enough to be used over the network! It only took a partial rewrite of the server code but now I can stably load chunks from my remote server. Time to re implement player movement!

playtest this weekend?
While making my evening cup of tea I got thinking about doing a playtest. It would be really awesome if I could get the server to a stable point by this weekend and then be able to get a couple friends to help me test. I think I will try aiming for this. Although progress tomorrow will be limited due to a maths test on Friday.
