KanoKido Week Day 1- Pretend play
Prompt: Kano’s Birthday
Word Count: 1 723
Comment: My first late contribution to the kanokido week! I originally didn’t plan on doing this prompt, but yesterday I was just hit by a sudden blast of inspiration and couldn’t resist celebrating my favorite boy’s birthday and the best paring ever’s festival. I tried to do it quickly so it’s a bit rushed, but I hope that you’ll still like it :3
ff.net link :3
All of his birthdays always were just a pretend play. Well, his whole life never was anything more than that. But when it came to his birthday it always felt like that play was at its most intense moment, challenging him with flashing never-ending smiles and appearing twice more cheerful than usual.
It was something that Kano learnt as a kid. It’s not that he never liked his birthdays, quite opposite- he loved them. It was a day when his Mother would be particularly nice to him and give him extra attention. But even if he truly enjoyed himself, he had to be especially careful to show it properly, even exaggerate if needed. He still remembered that if he wasn’t, his Mother would get upset, thinking she didn’t do well-enough job. The fact that his Mother would be upset was itself terrible to him, but it additionally caused the following days to also become horrible.
So it became kind of a habit, to smile without a break the whole day, reminding every then and now how happy he is. Even when he really was, in a way it was exhausting.
He played pretend even in his new family. They all always tried so hard to make his birthday a special day, so he couldn’t let a trifle like not the best gift ruin it for them. And at the worse times, he just couldn’t let anyone worry.
But to be fair he wasn’t the only one playing this game. Everyone else too, his Mother, family, Dan, they all trying to show him how special he was or how much they cared, were nothing but pretending. Of course, he wouldn’t go as far as calling them liars, he was the only out there after all. He believed that at least at the moment, at least one day a year they really meant it. But why pretend it’s a permanent state? Why pretend he meant something to them the whole year, all the time, but they just decided to show it only this day? But then again he wasn’t really complaining, he was just a bit exhausted, that’s all. It’s nice to have people who will treat you specially, at least once a year, especially since he never really deserved it.
But it all seemed to end eventually. Now they’re all grown-ups and they all went separate ways. They’re all in a different places, minding their own business and rarely have time for each other. Even on one’s birthday. Another example why it all was just a mere pretend. They could all say that they would do anything, but in the end no one has time for at least a party, they all satisfied with a birthday card or messaged best wishes.
Once again, he wasn’t complaining at all. He didn’t have time for them either, so he really understood. He just felt like he had achieved some kind of sick victory, proving something that it seemed only he could perceive. And finishing this play, he did feel relief, even if it felt somewhat lonely at the same time.
With those thoughts Kano reached the doors of his apartment. He just like the others didn’t have much time these days and was now coming back from his job. Letting out a deep sigh he took out the keys and entered the place that he was calling home for several months now. Even though it didn’t feel like one.
The moment he walked in, the sweet smell assaulted his nostrils. At first he found it strange, taking into account that he was pretty sure he hadn’t left the windows open and there was no way such smell could come from the inside, but after all the windows could be just not tight (it wouldn’t surprise him too much), so he just brushed that off. He took his jacket and shoes off and as his throat felt somewhat dry after such sorrow thoughts, he decided to go to kitchen to get some water. As he was getting closer to the kitchen’s entrance he could feel the smell becoming more intense. It smelled really nice and started to kindle glimmer of interest, but it would die out naturally if he didn’t see what he saw when he entered the kitchen.
He was standing in the doorframe, unable to move because of the sight before him. Like a mirage, there was Kido standing at the table while decorating a deliciously looking chocolate cake with a whipped cream. Whilst she was so concentrated, she stuck out her tongue and he couldn’t force himself not to smile as it looked so cute. This sight looked so peaceful and out of the place that he wasn’t sure if it was, if it could be real. He hadn’t seen her for so long time, only in dreams maybe, that he forgot the shade of green her hair took on when illuminated by rays of sunlight or the way it peacefully fell on her shoulders like a waterfall or the way the skin on her forehead folded and brows met when she was concentrated. These were the details he missed so badly, he tried to recreate them every day in his head, but it seemed that after “using” them so many times they were bereft of its original shape and was covered with a fog of memory.
But the image before him held all these details. It looked so real, but for that very fact itself it felt so unrealistic at the same time.
He would have never speak up, afraid of disturbing the possibly mere mirage, if she hadn’t eventually noticed his presence and looked up at him with her deep back eyes that sent the shiver down his spine.
“Oh, I didn’t notice you. Why are standing like this and doesn’t even say the word? Come here, I almost finished.” she finally said and with that all the doubts were blown away.
“H-how did you get there?” not the best way to greet the friend whom you hadn’t seen for months. But he realized it only after uttering them under the influence of shock and he could only facepalm himself internally. She was just as unimpressed by his question as he was, as she sent him a scolding look.
“You already forgot that you gave me the spare keys?” Oh, right.
“Well, never mind.” she continued, “The cake is ready, so stop standing like a stone and get over here.” As she finished decorating, she took a knife out and proceeded to slice the cake. Meanwhile Kano finally found himself unglued from his place and sat at one of the two already prepared plates. When she placed portion of the cake on his plate, she wished him happy birthday and planted a light kiss on his cheek. A little action that she stopped being embarrassed of a while ago.
Just a bite of the bakery masterpiece before him was enough to remind him one of the reasons why he missed her so much. It was delicious and tasted even better than in the old days. She must had practiced as she’d become even greater chef. Either that or he had been eating low quality food for too long. That option also seemed very possible.
“You know, you didn’t have to.” He said after a while, with a full mouth. Something she would scold him for any other day.
“It’s nothing, I still had one free day to use. Besides, you also came for my birthday, didn’t you? We’re even.”
“Well, it wasn’t a problem for me. Your birthday party was just an extension of the New Year’s one. You could have saved your free time for some other time…”
“I wanted to do this, so I did.” she cut him off. “So stop thinking about it so much, ok? It’s not such a big deal.”
“Yeah sure…” She may be acting like it was completely nothing, but he knows that she worked hard and needed a rest, not another day of standing in the kitchen and preparations. That she chose him for some reason touched him deeply. And then after a moment he realized something.
“Wait, where did you get…” the end of the question lingered on his tongue, as his gaze anxiously drifted to the sink.
“It’s not that hard to use running water and a sponge you know?” she sighed. “You should try it sometimes.”
“H-ha ha, well, if I knew I’d have a guest, maybe I would have cleaned here.” He laughed nervously and spared one last glance at the completely clean and empty kitchen sink, the sight utterly different of its usual state. “I don’t really have time to do washing-ups and just… you know, everything was easier when you were around…Who would think that housework and job can be so tiring.”
“Yeah…” after a silence while interrupted only by the sound of munching she continued. “Living together was easier, I wouldn’t mind going back to it.”
“Wait, are you saying that you would like to live with me again?” The question seemed to take her of guard as a light blush appeared on her face and she started stuttering slightly.
“I-I’m just saying that we could if you want to. We could split the rent and duties. That would be good, practical solution. Besides…” she lowered her voice along with the gaze and the light pink that he had forgotten how cute looked rose on her cheeks, “…I missed you. S-so since it’s your birthday I could do something like that. Think of this as of your present or something.”
A not disposable present, but one for years. Not like a mug that was given once and you can use for long time, it was something that would be being given the whole time. How did she even think about something like that? He couldn’t help but grin widely at the thought.
“Yeah, that’d be awesome. The best present ever.”
“Really? Glad you like it.” She smiled at him and it seemed that the moment of embarrassment had passed. ”You deserve something special after all.”
At that moment he felt like he had lost to her in his own game. But that wasn’t too surprising, after all, he had never stood a chance to her at anything.

Pairing: KanoShin (Platonic or romantic; either way their relationship is important. KanoShin is important. Don’t forget about that)
Word Count: 1 749
Comment: It was supposed to be done for KanoShin Day, but I’m three days late… B-but, a t least I made something, I’m still disappointed with you, tumblr.
ff.net link :3
Shintaro Kisaragi wasn’t generally a type who enjoyed spending his spare time outside. Wasn’t a type who enjoyed pointless walks in a full sun and definitely wasn’t a type who could even stand a physical activity. These simple factors were enough to conclude that he wasn’t very pleased by the fact that he was, currently, carrying a very certain blond male on his back in the middle of the summer day.
“Come on, Shintaro-kun~ Can’t you move a little faster?~”
He, in fact, couldn’t which was proven at least by deep breaths he had to take before (and even during) giving an actual answer.
“No… you’re too heavy… and it’s too hot…”
“Whaat?!” He found out he should have restrained himself from complaining, because then he could have prevented the sudden ebullition from Kano’s side which almost made him fall and definitely made him struggle even more. “When I had to carry you from the mall to the hideout (because someone had fainted) there was muuch hotter! Not to mention that I’m definitely lighter than you. Don’t you think so, Shintaro-kun?~” as he asked he clapped the older boy on his belly. As if Shintaro wasn’t already close to throwing up. Did he really wanted make him to?
Actually, maybe he did. You can never be sure about anything when it comes to Kano.
Although Shintaro recently got to know the boy better, it still only meant that he’d learned that some of his first assumption of him weren’t exactly correct. It came out that he wasn’t in fact as popular as Shintaro took him for. And apparently the purpose of him going out late wasn’t meeting with his other friends. And the most definitely he wasn’t so laid-back, carefree and cheerful as he pretended to be and as Shintaro naively, without much consideration, believed in.
In the end he only learnt who Kano wasn’t and not who he was. And it, even if only subconsciously, irritated him. Back when he had been still studying, he used to think that he knew everything, but with time he’d learnt, thanks to the certain girl with a red scarf, that there were a lot of things that he still didn’t understand. One of these was Kano.
Yet, even if he learnt that, he still didn’t like it, he didn’t like not knowing and thus he decided to try everything in his power to finally understand the younger boy. At least it was one of the reasons. And maybe it was part of the reason why he agreed to the boy’s sudden caprice.
Even now Shintaro wasn’t sure about his intentions, when the blond demanded from him that since he had carried the older boy back after the terrorists attack, he owned him now one ‘ride’ as well. This kind of ridiculous request was very in Kano’s style, but that was all he could tell about this whole situation. He still wasn’t sure what was behind this. Was this the boy’s attempt to make up or just a way to humiliate him?
It could easily be the second, taking into account that his face was already almost as red as his jersey from both exhaustion (he wasn’t quite sure how longer can he proceed with progressively less and less oxygen in his lungs) and embarrassment.
“You know, people are looking at us.” he said.
“Eeeeh, I’m pretty sure people were looking at me as well when I was carrying unconscious man.”
“And I’m pretty sure they weren’t! Wasn’t Kido with you then?”
As much as it was rethorical question, Shintaro expected from Kano more of a response than just a dismissive shrug, which he could easily feel at this point. The longer he walked his senses were becoming more sensitive, even if they were becoming number at the same time. It’s kind of funny how he practically couldn’t feel his legs anymore, but he was able to painfully sense every single pebble he stepped on, not to mention increasing pain in his knees.
“Besides, as you mentioned, I was unconscious then.”
“And? That made it waay creeper!”
“That made it way easier! I wasn’t moving all the while. Nor talking.” It was true that this whole thing would be much more easier if Kano was less… energetic. Not only was he constantly wriggling, but from time to time he would come up with some of his antics, like vigorously pointing into direction he wanted the NEET to go whilst shouting childishly some commands or exclamations. He swear sometimes he was even acting like he was riding a horse. Even if he stopped when Shintaro threatened that he would throw him off him if he won’t.
„Hey! At least I’m making this ride a bit less boring, don’t you think so?“ With Kano’s indignation, Shintaro once again found out that he should have refrained himself from making any remark. To keep a peace was one point, but what’s more valuable right now was that he could have prevented what came next. At the sudden movement of the boy sitting on his back and as he leant closer to Shintaro’s face weighing the poor NEET even more, Shintaro felt his knees giving up and as the huge force folded his legs, he couldn’t find any strength to keep himself up straight. When he lost his balance everything next happened quickly and within a second Shintaro was lying face down on the ground. With Kano still on his back. This additional weight made the impact even less bearable.
After a loud thud he caused, was an awkward moment of silence before Kano broke it.
“Shintaro-kun…”
“Hmm?” asked Shintaro with muffled voice, the result of lying with mouth pressed firmly to the ground.
“You’re really weak.” His tone stayed indifferent, as if he was stating the fact or the revelation he had just discovered or confirm. That could be, in fact, true.
“Yea, I know. And overall useless.”
“I wouldn’t say that.” Kano said in a hushed tone, so low that Shintaro had to wonder if the boy even said it to him or just to himself, and finally lifted himself off Shintaro. Only now did he realized how much had he sweated there, when in the spot Kano was occupying earlier he could finally feel the cool air through, the now practically glued to his skin, material of his jersey.
“Anyway, you have barely walked half of the distance.”
Now that Shintaro was freed from the weight he had to bear, he could turn his head to see Kano’s face and find out that there was no emotion displayed on it, eyes unfocused in consideration.
“Well, I think it’s alright.” He spoke again after a while. “Taking all things into account… I think we’re even now. Don’t you think so as well, Shintaro-kun?” Kano turned to him and a wide smile spread across his lips. However, Shintaro knew better and instead of locking his gaze on it (like most people do, falling for blond’s trick) he lowered it to the boy’s hands. With little surprise did he find out that they were twitching a little, clutching on the fabric of his jeans.
Despite the fact that Kano was master of the deceive he had one opening- in reality he wanted to be caught in the act. He wanted to be understood. That’s the reason he intentionally stressed particular words, even if only so subtly, and intensively stared at Shintaro, waiting for his response.
“Yeah, I think so.” He smiled at Kano the best he could, so to clearly convey what he meant to the boy, what the letter hoped for him to catch. It seemed that partly he succeeded… and partly not exactly, as Shintaro could see how the other’s eyes softened and hands relaxed when he’d spoken, but at the same time a snicker escaped his mouth. It wasn’t the same laugh as his others, though. It was much more lighter and not as shattered as the other ones Shintaro got to hear. It gave off a feeling that, unlike the other times, it was a laugh that forced his way out of his throat and not the other way around.
However, as much as Shintaro liked it, he didn’t like the reason that cause the little slip from younger boy’s side. Even if Shintaro really tried hard to make the best smile he was capable of, came out he wasn’t capable of much after all, two years of living completely shut in reminding of themselves again.
Along with a laugh, Kano reached a hand up to point at his mouth in a gesture similar to the one when you want to show a child when they have some filth on them. He did pretty quickly decided against it and lowered his hand again, but then it could either mean that he was trying to be nice and he didn’t want Shintaro to feel bad over it or that he just prefered to leave him in unawareness, so to make fun of him behind his back (as if he didn’t spend there enough time).
Yet Shintaro believed that it was the first one. He got a feeling that the younger boy was beginning to warm up to him. And it wasn’t only in literal sense as a result of their bodies being pressed together for quite a time, but he think that the other really started to think better of him. Heck, even he started to think better of himself.
“Okay, so it’s decided now.” Kano said after a moment of silence as he got up and whisked off some dust from his pants. “It’s time to move forward, don’t you think?” He reached out his hand to help the older boy get up as well and when Shintaro raised his gaze, he could see that the smile Kano was wearing softened a lot. After a moment (which was probably the effect of some sort of surprise and at no point of hesistation) he grabbed the offered to him hand.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.”
A/N: My very first KanoShin fic, yaay! ^^ I hope you liked it~

KanoKido Witch AU?
{give me a pairing, give me an AU setting and I will write you a three-sentence fic}
//based on this anthology comic
At first hewas very wary when the completely strange person offered him to stay at herhouse for a night, and not only becauseof her rather scary appearance and cold tone, but as it really was getting darkand he currently was in the middle of a forest, not exactly sure in whichdirection to go, he decided, despite that his mother has told him not to talkto strangers (not to mention staying attheir houses), that she would probablybe more angry if he got lost in the forest than if he didn’t listen to her thisone time.
When theygot to their destination, the inside of the house intimidated him even further(though it would be a lie to say that it didn’t fascinated him at the same time)with it’s bizarre decor and scattered everywhere bottles filled withsuspicious-looking liquids, however he couldn’t wipe off the feeling that thislittle house equipped with only several pieces of furniture felt a bit… lonely.
And thelonger he stayed, the more he learned that there was nothing to be afraid of inthe first place- this peculiar greenette (whom he started calling a ‘witch’ inhis mind because of her particularity) appeared to be really nice; unlike someof his neighbors when they say they want to help him, she really did help him as she offered him a warm bath, warm meal (thebest he has ever eaten in all honesty), and her own warm bed (she settledherself for a couch) and when she treated his wounds she didn’t ask anyquestions, only focused on aiding him, like what nice person would do in hisbelief, and so when the morning comes and he waves a ‘goodbye’, he’s more thansure that he will visit her again.
Aaand he did, they became friends and later he started spreading various rumors about her haha.
Yes, that’s exactly what i thought of when reading this story the frist time (you can tell my mind went wild)

KanoKido + Superhero AU
{give me a pairing, give me an AU setting and I will write you a three-sentence fic}
Tonight’s patrol is going to end completely differently from anyother times they have met on this very particular rooftop, becausetoday, after months of fighting crime together, they’ve finallydecided to entrust each other enough and reveal their secretidentities.
If Kano said that he didn’t want to know the real name ofInvisible Girl, heroine that has saved him from many picklescountless times and whose courage anddetermination he truly admires, that would be the one of the mostobvious lies he has ever told; yet, ironically, saying that he doesn’tlook froward to this wouldn’t, as he feels extremely axious aboutshowing his true self, afraid of what she might find out and how itcan influance their relationship.
But she has already seen him in his worse days, so he decides totrust her, just how she always has and how she did now, when shetakes off her mask, finally exposing her, now clearly seen, prettyface and as she smiles (and he swears that her smile shines even brighterwhen she has her eyes uncovered), she reaches her hand out, saying„Kido Tsubomi. Nice to meet you.”
