Hi. I got so tired of hearing people say Leon is flat, boring, overhyped, and poorly written-- and ALSO hearing people casually assume Ash will lose the finals this weekend-- that I made a 40-minute video essay explaining both Leon's characterization and how Journeys has built up the World Coronation Series with that in mind.

I hope at least a few more people will be able to appreciate Leon as a character by watching this, and here's to cheering for Ash tomorrow!

This was my first attempt at a video essay, and the audio is especially rough imo, but I did add accurate subtitles, at least. Some further thoughts on the technical process and such under the cut.

This was also the first time I've made any video more in-depth than a simple AMV, in general, so I unfortunately grossly underestimated how long editing would take. And I did want to get this out with at least about a day for people to see it before the finals conclude, so I wound up running out of time to fix a lot of little things.

The syncing is slightly off in places (despite looking fine in the editor, but okay...), and I was figuring out a lot as I went, but mostly I just feel like the audio is really rough. How was the most exhausting and difficult part of this process just making words out loud with my mouth??? Who knows... But I hope it's okay enough, at least with the subtitles...

I also really wish I'd thought about subtitles covering most of my little aside comments, but like... A lot of those are meant to be optional, so feel free to pause to read them or just focus on the main content.

I'm certainly open to (...gentle? 🥺) constructive critique for anything else, or especially advice for HOW to improve audio in any future videos. But yeah.
