this is laurel, another minor npc from my tabletop campaign. i made her up on the spot & she wasn't supposed to have much signifigance, but the players ended up falling in love with her -> she became more relevant -> i also fell in love and made her into a doll. she's mostly inspired by cranes and secretary birds, and how fun it would be if they had little arms.

FFXIV update below the cut, in which we stop an execution, finally get the airship back, and go on an overly drawn out fetch quest... I miss Haurchefant already

The people Haurchefant sent to look for eyewitnesses of the Enterprise did find something, however with Francel being accused of heresy and us being introduced to Haurche in the first place because of him, they weren't willing to share.... and soon enough it was the day of the trial, but as Haurchefant said, its a trial in name only, its really an execution...
I love that he came riding in on a chocobo to help!! Conveniently for us, one of the Temple Knights was holding one of those dragon rosaries, which is obviously suspicious, on top of them only being found in the packages addressed to members of House Haillenarte (wait that's how you spell it? lol) so his name is cleared, and we're able to get info that the ship headed to Stone Vigil... which House Durendaire is currently in control of as they try to retake it from the dragons, so we have to leave for Whitebrim. He and Francel both write introduction letters, though Haurche mentions here that he's not very well liked by the other houses....

I love him asking if you want to spend the night with him before you leave, I honestly think its cute. Though he then realizes your busy but of course says you're welcome whenever... Yuugao is already the type that has whoever she pleases, and Haurche IS attractive, so like, she WOULD, and it would be weird probably, cause even when someone agrees to sex with her, she enjoys violating their boundaries in the process.... though I was discussing with my sister, and it might be a case where he's into it anyway LMAO, wow a real doctor using paralytic drugs (without asking) before fucking you? And cutting open wounds to finger? Exciting! すごくイイ!…かも

Sure enough, unlike House Fortemps, the people here are not welcoming, and won't let us into Stone Vigil, so we go around helping the soldiers, who start warming up, if it wasn't for Guillaime getting in the way AGAIN. I honestly didn't expect him to be a fake, cause with everything I know about Ishgard so far, it made sense he acted Like That LOL. Do you want some tips on how to better hide corpses?

HE was the heretic all along... but none of what he said about Ishgard was wrong either... Also (as usual lmaoooo) the EN really watered down this part and made him seem more ~Pure Evil~ just like with the ascians. I usually check the EN for big story events like this and every time its like looking at a gutted version of the actual script with a helping of M-C's personal fanfic... Anyway, he calls out Ishgard's mission of eradicating the dragons, asking how long they're going to keep clinging to their traditions and pushing this pointless fate onto their children and grandchildren. "This country rotted long ago. That's why, by these hands, by the dragons' fangs, I'll bring about change!" (also he has a good laugh in the OG script)

Stone Vigil FINALLY. My sister helped as usual, and it wasn't too bad. And our good friend Laha was there! Calling us a "part of the lesion rooted in this planet" <-sounds important, wasn't in EN, and that we've turned against their "true god". I think this guy is enjoying it lol.

We have the Enterprise now, but the storm wall is still an issue. We needed a polarized crystal to neutralize it by changing the wind element to fire, which can further power its engine. Also EN as usual has a far more confusing name for them, why corrupted crystals, that makes them sound evil??? They're just crystals polarized towards a certain element, hence, polarized crystal?? It seemed so easy. Too easy......... annnnnd of course we got an EARTH to fire crystal instead of wind to fire, don't you "zanne~n" me!! but since he's suuuuch a genius, he's like we can put it together with a wind to earth crystal. Oh god its a fetch quest chain.... Also since EN loves eliminating all character voice and making everyone sound same-y, I'll point out each of Team Zero and Lamberteint himself all speak in distinct ways. Lamberteint goes *Haahn* and *Fuu~* a ton and i think he's meant to be irritating LOL. You know, I think I'll take my chances going into the Empire-occupied territory you say would be "certain death"

I. Hear. A. Sound.
The siren WAS at least hot, though we didn't get to properly fight her, though even she says we'll meet again.... presumably on the dungeon listed on the map here lol

Annnnd of course it was a wind to WATER crystal this time. Yeah whatever. (this girl was cheery and dreeew out he words a tooon, like thiiis) And she recommends a water to earth crystal.... or you know, we could have just gotten wind to fire in the first place!!

Love that they just flat out called the quest "The final polarized crystal" LMAO. And it thankfully was not a lie. (This guy stuttered a bit and ended every sentence with "yes")
The Enterprise is finally ready to go... with the wind->water->earth->fire setup that is needlessly convoluted!

Some other sidequest stuff- I love this guy that starts getting all excited about the idea of you in battle and starts talking like Haurchefant, its so cute lol

I mentioned it elsewhere, but I started the amalj'aa quests, and their Japanese is the most difficult by FAR, its archaic and uses a ton of idiomatic expressions. Also I want to point out Loohn Gah's speaks in a blatantly masculine way in Japanese, and I mean they straight up use ORE, which even in fiction you don't really see women use? And its not that they're speaking like an amalj'aa either, they use very casual speech, nothing archaic.... anyway hm, someone that speaks like that who is already living as not a miqo'te, but an amalj'aa? Seems deliberate to me.

And I started ixal quests too (which EN REALLY butchered their speech, why do they make them sound simpleminded??? They're goddamn engineers here with custom developed airships!) Their Japanese is FULL of slang, kinda like uhhh biker gang that's really into modifying their balloons vibe? It wouldn't even be hard to properly localize this sort of slang, I've seen it before....

Also GREAT news, I found another Miqo'te NPC that says "nya", and this one makes puns LOL. I swear they choose the funniest possible miqo'te to say nya, first we had catgirl taxes, and now, a seasoned warrior.... I got to see the word "nyaruhodo" and I think that's beautiful
#infel's ffxiv tag#OH that got long#many things to say#i miss haurche....#and as always. M-C I SWEAR WHEN I GET YOU!!! >:(#i hate the EN loc soooooo much PLEASE i beg anyone that can to play in literally any other language#like the other locs are apparently much more faithful to the OG intentions...#so if you can't do JP but can do FR or GER? YEAH its apparently better

The good plot twists aren't the ones that are wild left turns out of nowhere, they're the ones that make all the other little things that didn't quite add up before suddenly click
#NELICO…. she flat out tells you who she is in a sense and you have enough info at that time to piece it together#and the final piece of the puzzle you’ll know by the end.. but I’ve seen no one guess it before the reveal in ArNo#it makes so much sense though! like of COURSE that’s who she is!!#also Xenosaga is amazing at this stuff in ep1 will hint at stuff not revealed until ep3#my fav being a certain late ep3 reveal… overly strong faith clouds the eyes….

Though not anywhere near as hard as the amalj’aa’s speech, ixal speech is also kinda difficult in the opposite direction, namely SO MUCH SLANG…. More than the pirates even lol

Started the amalj’aa quests and oh my god their Japanese is the hardest I’ve seen by a long shot, it’s archaic and uses a ton of idiomatic expressions…. I initially assumed it was like that because they were summoning Ifrit, but no, it’s ALWAYS like that… just look at this!! I was able to work through it but it was much slower going…

Also did not expect to hear 俺 from the catgirl in essentially bikini armor hahah, she has very rough, masculine sounding speech
#unlocked their quests now too#and I’m finally at Garuda so that will be today most likely#infel’s ffxiv tag
