hi! sorry if this is offputting to you but i just wanted to say that your posts and fics have been such a delight to read<3 i'm sticking to tfp for the moment to test the water in the fandom but MAN, i don't think i've read any tfp megatron analysis that made him so visceral and compelling and MAKE SENSE. he's a character fueled by passion first and foremost which is his biggest strength and weakness, so exploring different sides of how he would end up this way is so good!! especially in relation to orion/optimus! the highlight in the differences in their origin/culture that shaped their different ideologies (while not invalidating their respective views) is refreshing. i came into the fandom looking for fan works on the toxic exes and was bombarded with sweet librarian/gladiator romance haha. and while it's fine as it fuels the latter stages of their relationship, the way you plant the seed of the divide between them further than just the revolution vs reform debate is so awesome :) sorry if i rambled too much, your writing had me in a lovingly crushing grip for a few days so i wanted to let you know X)

Aww! I really love this! thank you a bunch for this. I've dipped my toe out of the transformers fandom, but one of the things I was (and will always be) passionate about was the class divide between Megatronus and Orion and how it shaped their relationship and experiences between the other.

I think that plays an integral role in how they approach their objectives & goals, and eventually they would have a fallout just given their different approaches and beliefs. Their strong beliefs formulated by the things that happened to them.

I love them both, so exploring how they began and how they came to be Megatron and Optimus has always been my favorite experiment, and I try to communicate that through my writing. I really enjoyed this! Thank you!

Drift, Rodimus, Ratchet & Religious Trauma and Healing allegories:

TW: Discussions of religious trauma. This is just another perspective I wanted to bring to the situation with Drift and Rodimus (and Ratchet) as someone who's experienced a lot of pain with religion and can see myself in Drift.

I've been fixating on how Drift was handled when Rodimus kicked him off of the Lost Light, and how often the severity of what Drift went through was downplayed often to prop up Rodimus.

As if Rodimus could do no wrong, and that Drift's suffering was somehow okay because Drift never raised hell and accepted Rodimus's apology.

I also thought about how with Drift's adherence to religion and tendency to follow Rodimus, even to suffering, was very catholic, and very religious trauma.

Rodimus, a Prime, caused Drift to suffer for something Rodimus did. Drift who worshiped the ground Rodimus walked on, was made to suffer for his mistakes. Drift was almost Rodimus's martyr.

And Drift accepted it.

And it's not just that he accepted it, it's that he took on the psychological and physical torment that followed. The social isolation, the physical harm, the lack of resources. The regression back to a side of himself that he fought tooth and nail not to be. It removed him from his safe space and forced him to fight to live every single day.

And this just reminded me so much of how religious trauma actually works in real life. How you are often made to suffer, by your congregation (especially in Christianity) for something you didn't do. How you're expected to suffer because your "God" makes it so, or you suffer so that your religious figure doesn't have to.

And when you are "shunned" or "excommunicated", you lose everything. The very thing that saved you (because religion did save Drift) is used against you.

And even after all of that, they still refuse to take actual accountability. And you are still expected to forgive them.

Their relationship is so complex because Drift has a heart of gold to have forgiven that. He worships the ground Rodimus walks on, but Rodimus was wrong and Drift deserved better.

And then we have Ratchet, the atheist, who respects Gods but understands that they don't have the right to control your life like that, and that you still ultimately have control of everything, save Drift. Save Drift from his own God, and that's so powerful.

And that's why they actually last.

Their story is very much an allegory to religious trauma to me. It took Ratchet, an atheist, to make him realize that what happened to him was not okay and that he was not deserving of what Rodimus did to him.

Drift's "God" didn't safe him. The one Drift suffered for, nearly died for, didn't save him. A non-believer who laughed in "God's" face did.

Drift and Rodimus are religious trauma. Drift and Rachet are religious freedom and religious healing.

I've been thinking about the difference between how Optimus and Megatron would raise their sparklings, especially in AUs where Cybertron does not fall and they're both the respectful rulers of their respective factions & have cross faction sparklings.

Iacon is very strict. Children are children, but also servants. They are polite to the point of being scary, and robotic. They are made to serve their creators and their larger purpose.

It's different in Kaon, which is all about liberation, discovering yourself, living past what your function says is determined for you.

Needless to say, Megatron and Optimus do butt heads over it. Megatron does not enjoy his children serving him, pouring him glasses of energon, and being strange wallflowers when they are in Iacon.

Whereas in Kaon they are free to do what they want. They serve themselves, and their parents serve them.

There's also a lot of deconditioning Optimus has to go through, growing up in Iacon that factors into his parenthood. And Megatron's not perfect, but he's not a Prime.

Cant say I like starscream being the villain I really was hoping that the main conflict of season two would be the mia autobots and newly released cons struggling to assimilate with humans and the non mia autobots, like there’s a real big disconnect between the two groups, and the Terrans are just in the middle of it, especially if the mia autobots sympathize with the decepticons and have an aversion to the active autobots, I really thought we would finally have a tf piece of media that would finally stop the “starscream is always destined for being evil” especially with how he has a connection with hashtag and genuinely cares for her, but no starscream is a probably gonna be a mid villain, the ONLY role where it would be interesting if star was the villain is if his schemes are against the autobots and especially megatron how how heavily persecuted the cons are and that they had to fight to barely survive especially if they didn’t want to be in jail, I just hope they do something interesting, like humans having civil unrest because cons are being “accepted” in to society and them protesting it, I would be even better if this persecution and fear mongering affected the autobots and Terrans. Also it literally make no sense for them to be attacking the maltos THEY LITERALLY JUST HELPED THEM FIGHT MANDROID, maybe starscream is having a manic episode or megatron did something to really piss him off

But if the evildoings of the cons is just them doing childish bs then I’ll gladly watch that

Also nightshade is not mentioned once all the rest of the malto kids are but not them

which if their by the wayside that will be really disappointing because imo they are like the most interesting Terran and the one who has the most opportunity for character growth, especially with how open minded they are, this either mean they become a minor character (which would just be bad writing and a wasted opportunity) or the become a decepticon, AND THEY TOTALLY SHOULD IT WOULD BE SO INTERESTING IF THEY WERE ISOLATED EVEN MORE FROM THEIR FAMILY BECAUSE THEY ARE A DECEPTCON, please con nightshade 🙏🙏🙏

Also also this seems like a very hashtag heavy season which I am very excited about especially because she’s has cool ass powers and she’s my second fav (nightshade will always be my number one ☝️☝️☝️🔥🔥🦅🦅) and I think why it’s hashtag centric season is because starscream is the main villain, and she’s one of like 5? People he likes and seeing someone she’s close too be all evil and shit will probably fuck her up even more.

So in conclusion all I wish for is for lesbian and decepticon nightshades, windblade(PLEASE), and for starscreams motivations to be interesting

The only thing I can do is be hopeful 🙏🙏

Can't get over the fact that the Prime kids were made soldiers & the cybertronians give them nothing but heartache and loneliness for it.

They are incredibly cut out, mid season 3. Their roles are strangely reduced, and by the time the Cybertroniains leave, we get the feeling that the story is final.

The Cybertronians are used to this. Not the other way around. I can't even imagine the emotional strain of being thrown into a war, forming deep bonds with your protectors, only for them to leave and return to their planet.

I think while a portion of the fandom has issues with Megatron's redemption, it's not actually a very bad redemption. He never excuses what he does, he dies/is imprisoned at the end, he's a prisoner on the LL, he introspects on the messed up crap he does, and strives to be better, even that the expense of sacrificing his own life if necessary (and he tries to).

A lot of his redemptions is considered bad because we see it done off screen in the functionalist Universe, but even with what I've read of the LL/MTMTE , he does a shit ton of work while away from the functionalist universe.

His redemption arc is often a criticism of his character, and it's not perfect, but it's also not at all terrible.

He takes accountability, serious accountability. He could kill absolutely everyone on the ship if he wanted to, and he doesn't. He makes amends to the people he's able to (even apologizes to tailgate for no reason lol), and continues to strive to put others before himself.

It's not as shitty as people try to make it. And I often wonder if people hate Megatrons' redemption arc, or if they just hate Megatron. Because if their fave was given the redemption arc megatron was, I doubt they'd be complaining.

Because his crimes were never forgiven, he never got a slap on the wrist. He understood what would happen to him, and eventually accepted it. He also worked to make the strong relationships he had, and while people consider the LL just openly accepting him, they really didn't. He had to work his ass off.

Eventually, it just becomes, "well my fave didn't get this ending so Megatron's actually sucked"

And not all the time, there are some valid criticism, even some I've made. But it's not the scum of the earth like people make it out to be. And I love that it was received well enough to be adapted in to ES.

My headcanon is that in the beginning years of them being together they have to constantly turn off their automatic defense systems whenever they're in each other's presence, and it happens to both of them. It makes things awkward, but they get a bit better at it.

I'm my AUs, the Prime Siblings all have alter egos that encompass their Prime Persona.

Orion Pax's is Optimus Prime, Elita-1's is Black Blackarachnia, Sentinels does have one, but I don't know yet. But in general most people who are not close to them do not know they are like this.

So when Orion Pax who never defends himself when he's in danger, suddenly has the ability to take on a large number of opponents & protect Megatron, people start to think something is up with them

When Elita-1 often leaves by herself with no guards in dangerous lands, and comes back with energon all over her, seemingly unharmed, people who don't know them start talking.

And Sentinel never goes between his two states, he's always 100% so no one would know there was a meek, humble version of him who does not enjoy the fighting.

Megatron has always felt there's something more to Orion. But he never asks. When he left Iacon and came to Kaon, he figured he'd tell him his past when he was ready.

But he knows something is off.

(anyway this is a part of various AU ideas I have where the Prime siblings are a bit of eldrich horrors lol. Megatron and Optimus are together, but Megatron only knows of Orion. He doesn't know there's something else in there that kills people)
