Update on my situation. Despite how weird my appearance is here, I've managed to secure a job and a place to stay. Turns out devices in this world are a LOT simpler to fix than in my own world, what with the lack of aether.

I'm still in Eterna City, but I've been told there's apparently a lot of other cities I can go to. Even other entire "regions", which are something like countries.

The fact that I can just go there without issue is incredible, but I can't help but notice I haven't seen a single warp terminal since I got here. How do you generally get to other countries?

yeaaaaaah so pokemon tap into something that academics call Infinity Energy but i just call it move juice. and some wackos call it Aura. you just kinda like. filter it into one of the 18 element types and then you use it? there's a whole type chart to summarize interactions here

Infinity Energy. ...Is it actually infinite, or is that just a catchy name? Well, at least this is much simpler to understand than magic back home. Like anyone can remember what the hell Induration or Liquefaction is.

At the very least, I've managed to download a map by now, so I'm not horribly lost anymore. It's as good a time as any to make a move and explore.
