Murderbot getting disqualified from the SexyEnby poll because someone bought thousands of bot votes for it is honestly the funniest possible outcome of it being included in the first place.

one of my favorite things from network effect is how ART keeps flickering the lights at imperceptibly minuscule degrees to human beings to piss off secunit. it’s like constantly blowing a dog whistle just to fuck with your dog

It’s hard to articulate but it’s not that I want to gatekeep The Murderbot Diaries, it’s that the content and culture we currently have is so fun and creative with everyone having wildly different takes on Murderbot and Co, how the feed can be visualized, how ART can be personified, how the humans look, etc.
I worry that we’ll lose that to the “official” way things look. That the show will be the new default. That all this fun, unique content will fizzle out and be squashed under what appears to be official ruling on things. That the show will act as a final trump card on discussions and interpretations. That suddenly everyone looks the same, dresses the same, acts the same as how the show does things. That people stop creating and sharing and god forbid even imagining because the show set things in stone. I’ve seen it happen with other books that got adapted but there’s something that hurts more about the thought of it happening here because there’s something special about TMBD and just how little descriptors there are and how much room artists get to play. I’m talking fanfic too. There are so many cool ganaka pit, governor module, and different POV interpretations.
I’m begging you, if you create for the fandom at all don’t succumb to the idea that the show is the final version. It’s NOT. It’s just a different person’s interpretation, just like yours is. It’s another fanwork. PLEASE keep imagining and creating and sharing. Tag me and I’ll reblog it fifty times if I need to! Just don’t stop

one of my favorite little things mb does in its narration is where it says something out loud and then immediately contradicts itself in its inner dialogue, its funny to me every single time

I know there’s this one fan theory that Mb has an interest in the relationship stuff of the people around it due to its consumption of soap operas. Which is obviously a valid theory and please go on.
But I think the answer is more simple than that: In some places, it’s statistically higher that violence occurs in relationships or due to relationships or the lack of them. What I’m thinking is, Murderbot’s entire spiel in ASR about who is into who when it comes to the PresAux team is actually to feed the algorithm its Risk Assessment Module uses to assess potential dangers between individuals on a survey. I think it still does that even though it does note in the narration that all the members of the team are friends.

everyone can recognise the arm-weapons as weapons even if never seen a secunit before = equipment warning signs? laser hazard sign? engraved instructions????
hard data can be stored under the arm-weapons = must have a lot of space in there = can see the metal bones when weapons deployed???

Murderbot parallels: sharing secrets
From Exit Strategy: After ART learns what Murderbot has done and who it is, ART responds with: "I am not allowed to accept unauthorized passengers or cargo, and have had to alter my log to hide any evidence of your presence. So we both have a secret."
From Network Effect: After Arada reveals that the Preservation team knows what ART's crew is really up to, Ratthi tries to smooth things over by saying, "I was one of of the 'unidentified conspirators' who escaped and is to be held liable for 'massive interference with commerce and property damage' if I'm ever caught on that station again. So now we know things about each other."
I love how ART and MB and their friends share secrets so each side feels safe: I know something about you that could endanger you if anyone found out, so here's a secret about me to balance the scales.
