I'm not a John Sheppard/Todd the Wraith shipper, but I love the idea of Todd touching John for the first time. The idea of hands that once ripped life away being allowed again, even welcomed. Those hands tracing over the scar on John's chest as he shivers at the memory of having his life force ripped away, hands that once caused so much pain now being so gentle. The idea of John allowing himself to be touched, to be vulnerable, of Todd making direct eye contact as he touches him, waiting for John to flinch, to reach for his gun, but it never comes, not even when Todd's feeding hand brushes over his chest, not even then.
#It would be such a fascinating culmination of trust#And such a good callback to where it all started#I may need to write a fanfic#john sheppard#todd the wraith#John/Todd#John Sheppard/Todd the Wraith#stargate atlantis

So I'm currently in Season 3 of Sg1 and I have been hit with another difference between Sg1 and Atlantis.
The SGC is a job. Atlantis is home.
Don't get me wrong, the sg1 team is pack bonded and absolutely feral about each other. They are family. They are friends. They are also coworkers. They commute to the sgc. They have houses and apartments and lives outside of the stargate program. (Well, some of them do.) They get paid, go on vacations, and get benefits. In the end, this is a job. A job you love, with people you would die for, at a place that could be a second home, but a job.
Atlantis is a home first and a job second. They live there. They fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping against the piers of Atlantis. They go for runs in the catwalks. There's a chess club, a mensa chapter, an outdoors club, they go fishing and play volleyball together. They go for dates in the cafeteria, have Atlantis movie nights, and meet up for breakfast. They're a tight knit community.
The SGC is also a military base and it shows, it's barren and impersonal, there are a few exceptions to this, like Daniel having a picture of Sha're on his desk, but for the most part there's little to no personalization. Even the lighting is often very sterile and military. Again, there's exceptions, like the often warm and yellow lighting used in Daniel's office, but the hallways are all extremely sterile. (There's something to be said for the way that Daniel is most often the one breaking up the uniform and military vibes of the base, but that's another post)
Atlantis, on the other hand, is heavily personalized. They hang posters on their walls, they have golf clubs, art supplies, and remote control cars. There's dirty clothes on the floor of their quarters, a mini fridge tucked into the corner, and books left open on their beds. There's something so familiar and comfortable about Atlantis. A sense of belonging that doesn't come across as much as in Sg1.
Honestly, I think it comes back to how militarized the SGC is and how civilian Atlantis is. The vibe is less found family military heroes and more Atlantis is a home to the lost and the broken.
#I love found family in all it's forms#Please don't think I'm bashing sg1 at all#It's just interesting#I'm also obsessed with the way that Atlantis is a place of belonging to those that don't belong anywhere else#stargate sg 1#stargate#stargate atlantis#john sheppard#sga#stargate sg1#sg1#stargate fandom#daniel jackson#rodney mckay#jack o'neill#teal’c#ronon dex#samantha carter#teyla emmagan

I watched all of Atlantis twice before watching Sg1 and this is arguably the funniest and most interesting order to watch things in. One of the first things I noticed is that the Pegasus Galaxy is so much more unhinged than our galaxy.
Sg1 goes to make an alliance with the Tokra and they're like "we shall now convene the council and debate for the next several hours the possibility of an alliance in this great war." And then there's Atlantis trying to make alliances and everyone they talk to is just like "we made nuclear bombs!", "we cobbled together a hyperdrive out of parts we scavenged or bartered for. It occasionally lights on fire and there's a small amount of deadly radiation, but it's super fast!", and "I won't talk to you unless you let me eat someone."
The Goa'uld would not last a day in pegasus. They would rock up to the galaxy and try to do their whole we are gods thing and the Satedans would just be standing there, covered in blood, surrounded by the mutilated bodies of wraith, going, "Really? Cause we carved out the internal organs of the last guy who said that."
Hell, if the wraith met the Goa'uld they would think it's great, because, "Wow! Human and symbiote! That's two life forces to eat! A two for one deal!" In a Wraith vs Goa'uld fight the wraith would win. The Goa'uld wouldn't stand a chance.
Atlantis commits more war crimes in their first year than sg1 does in a decade. And it's not just that. The sgc as a whole is so orderly and clean. They wear their uniforms. They're semi-well trained. They're military. The Atlantis crew is so much messier. Their hair is disheveled and their uniforms wrinkled. They're sleep deprived and drenched in sweat. They're running on massive amounts of caffeine and need so much therapy. Atlantis and Pegasus in general is just so much more bloody and dirty. Their hands are soaked in blood, their face is covered in mud and they're getting up for another round.
In short, I love sg1 so far but there is something so raw and desperate about Atlantis that is so fascinating.
#I'm only on season 2 of sg1 so maybe this changes as the show goes on#But right now it is hilarious witnessing the differences#They really sent all of the unhinged or weird people that they didn't want to another galaxy#Only to discover that the galaxy they sent them to is just as weird and unhinged#stargate atlantis#stargate#john sheppard#sga#sg1#rodney mckay#daniel jackson#jack o'neill#stargate sg1

Sg1 wouldn't have experimented on Michael. Sg1 would have taken the moral option, because as Jack once put it, "That's what makes them the good guys." Atlantis however is a collection of war crimes masquerading as an expedition.
I will never forget the show for treating Michael the way they did and pretanding like it's okay. It was such a childish argument too. "Well wraith would do the same to us if they got the chance" OKAY?? AREN'T YOU SUPOSED TO BE BETTER THEN THEM LIKE HELLO??
#It's an easy mistake to make#Atlantis is definitely NOT above this#stargate atlantis#stargate sg1#sg1#stargate#sga

Guys, guysss, the beginning of Book 8 is so underrated, seriously Flanagan FEDD us in the span of 15 chapters.
we've got Halt being a badass on the west coast kicking outsider ass, we've got cute gathering moments, we've got Will training apprentices and subconsciously acting exactly like Halt in the meantime.
not to mention cute Uncle Crowley moments with Will and the Special Task Group reveal, and the fact that a large part of the reason Will was so excited to move back to Redmont was because Alyss lived there and he'd get to see her more. And Crowley literally calls him outtt for this because Will was smiling so big at the thought of seeing his girlfriend more often.
NOT TO MENTION the small moment where the 5th year apprentices have their graduation ceremony and Will has that moment of regret for missing out on having a "happy proud family" to wish him well at his own graduation, and as quickly as that thought enters his mind, he's casting it aside because "he had Halt. and Halt was enough family for anyone." AHHHHHH
and then Will sings with Berrigan at the gathering, Will plays a bit, and then very respectfully says, "You've also taught me not to overstay my welcome." PLEASE he's so babygirl. So respectful of Berrigan's time.
THEN we get the Will and Alyss reunion and they're so cute he's holding her hand the entire time they're together ahjgksjdb
THEN we get the SQUADDD AT DINNER TOGETHER???
PAULINE, CROWLEY, ALYSS, WILL, ANDDDD HALT??
and you best believe Halt, diva that he is, showed up late, and Will proceeds to knock over his chair in excitement because he's so excited to see his dad he's like a little puppy dear god.
then of course we get them bear-hugging and we get Halt's annual "I love this kid sm" moment
then they sit down to eat lamb and talk shit, and you best believe they talked shit the entire dinner before they discussed business because that actually happened. Halt said no business till I know whats happening with Rodney and Margaret.
THEN WE GET THE BROTHER REVEAL UGH
and this is only like the first 9 chapters yall this book is underrated, i'm telling you
#My favorite book in the series#The O'Carrick family drama#Horace knocking out Ferris and having Halt impersonate him#Horace bringing up the girls in gallica to guilt trip Halt#The trio basically going on a camping trip#It's all so gorgeous#Ranger's Apprentice#will treaty#halt o'carrick#horace altman

i was just going to put this in the tags of another post but i actually think it needs it's own post
we all know the whole thing about john being destined to die alone in the desert right. the flashbacks with holland, the defiant one, vegas, we have all these flashes that support this. but something i don't think we talk about is how rodney was destined to drown, and how both of them were saved from that by knowing each other
in before i sleep, old elizabeth tells us that rodney drowned when they first got to the city while trying to buy the rest of them more time. he drowned to save the city. this has a direct comparison with john in vegas bleeding out alone in the desert after saving the world (galaxy, arguably)
in grace under pressure, rodney is trapped in a sinking jumper that's slowly filling with water, only for john to show up at the last minute and save him. this has the direct comparison of rodney showing up in the defiant one to help john fight the wraith
even comparing johns past with holland and his failures vs rodneys fear of the ocean/drowning, it being this horrible burden they've carried with them for so long it's become a part of them
there's just something so insane to me about these two socially awkward outcasts who have never fit in once in their entire lives who are destined to die in horrible ways finding each other and changing their own destiny as much as each others. they're complimentary opposite sides of the same coin. they complete each other in ways that no one else possible could
#I had never thought of this#But it's a great concept#rodney mckay#john sheppard#Stargate#stargate atlantis

I didn’t know Irresistible was such a divisive episode, I think it’s hysterical
#I get why people don't like it#But it's an entire episode where the plot hinges on John not being able to smell anything#Chekhov's stuffy nose#John Sheppard#stargate atlantis

Darcy’s introduction in Pride and Prejudice is really ‘what if you had just had the worst month of your life because your ex-bestie tried to lover boy scam your baby sister out of her share of your dad’s life insurance and your friend dragged you to a shitty party in a dive bar in the neighbourhood where he’d just signed a short term lease, and you decided to let your bad mood show because you were never going to see any of the assholes in this stupid shitty bar EVER again. And your friend ended up making out with a girl he’d just met there while you were stuck talking to her sister who was less cute and then her mother appeared and started trying to matchmake and started saying how if she was twenty years younger she’d clime you like a redwood and ooooh is that a black Amex, guess the next round is on you hahhahahahaha, while her other sister (how many fucking sisters does she have?!) flashed an obviously fake ID at the bar and ordered six vodka-diet red bulls and no one in her family except the less-cute sister even tried to stop her. And you went home and consoled yourself that you would never see any of these people again but then you met them over and over again because they live next door and your friend and the cute sister keep meeting up to make out but not actually date and then. You fall in love with the less-cute sister because it turns out she’s really witty and charismatic but she already knows and remembers and resents the fact that on a day when you were in a shitty mood you called her mid out loud in a dive bar.’

In case anyone is interested in the wraith version of the birds and the bees, the novels actually explain that the wraith have two forms of reproduction.
Normal human reproduction methods where a queen takes on consorts and has children with them. Todd actually used to be a consort to his queen and had children with her before she died. (I know, the idea of having Todd as a father is an interesting one.)
Cloning, this is usually only if they need a lot of soldiers or drones very rapidly. They won the war with the ancients by cloning themselves thousands of times and overwhelming them with sheer numbers. This takes a lot of power and over time excessive cloning will degrade genetics. This is why they prefer to have kids the normal way and just live a really long time to make up for how few kids there are.
#Anyway#according to certain fanfiction John is in that film#john sheppard#stargate atlantis#sga#stargate#stargate fandom#rodney mckay#John Sheppard#todd the wraith#ronon dex#teyla emmagan#John x Todd if you squint hard enough

stargate atlantis knocks it out of the park by having the lead character be literally just some guy. he was just oneill’s ride to base. a flying cab driver who basically immediately got sent to another galaxy to explore other worlds because he’s the specialest boy and the only one who can make intergalactic siri work. he doesn’t even know what a stargate is

I'm going to use this post that was never meant to be taken seriously as an opportunity to talk about this. Both Jack and Daniel love with reckless abandon.
Daniel's has so much love for the world. He thinks almost everything is fascinating and beautiful. He has so much compassion and kindness. So much desire to understand things. He says the words, "I don't know," with so much excitement. He's constantly in awe of architecture and language and nature. It's all so gorgeous through Daniel's eyes. It's hard not to see the world and humanity as beautiful when you're around him. It's one of the reasons that Daniel could convince Jack that life is worth living.
Jack has so much love for his family, his team, anyone that he qualifies as one of his people. If he loves you, he will walk through hell for you, he will sacrifice and struggle, just to keep you safe, just to bring you home. He is always prioritizing his team over everything else. If Jack loves you he will keep you safe and happy until your dying day.
Something that is made so much more impactful by the fact that no one on his team is used to being loved like that.
Daniel was orphaned at the age of eight, from what we've seen his parents prioritized their careers over Daniel, and his grandfather did the same when he refused to adopt him and left him in foster care. Being important is so foreign to Daniel and yet Jack is constantly affirming that Daniel is important. Jack is constantly prioritizing Daniel, refusing to leave him behind, checking up on him. In Jack's eyes, Daniel is incredibly important.
Teal'c is used to being inferior and lesser. He spent years as a Jaffa, being treated as if he was inferior to the Goa'uld. Yet Jack is constantly affirming Teal'c's humanity, his worth. Teal'c is always an equal to Jack and always important.
Sam is used to proving herself. She had to prove herself to her dad, to herself, to the scientific community, to the air force. She's always striving to be seen as an equal and to do well. Something she has never had to do with Jack or the rest of sg1. They're so happy to have her on the team. They all have this attitude of, "This is Sam! Isn't she great!." Jack was excited to receive a medal, not because he cared about the medal, but because Sam was getting one too and he got to receive his while standing next to her. There's no competition. She doesn't have to prove anything. These people love her regardless.
This is why they're all so dedicated to each other, why they will never leave each other behind, why they refuse promotions and transfers, why they continue doing a job that could kill them, because it is worth the risk of dying just to be with people who love you.
