“Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”

Shamanism: Ancient Psychology
I wanted to write something that made sense for my practice. I know that Shamanism is seen as a First Nation People and Aboriginal practice. Though I am Native I have no real connection to my tribe. Though my grandmother was Yaqui it wasn’t apart of my up bringing.
You can purchase this information as well as the meditations at my Etsy store, Khthonia Art and Spells.
So when I first learned about shamanism in high school, which was reading Silver RavenWolf, I saw a striking resemblance to psychology. I loved psychology as a teenager and have made it my career goal.
This will not be talking about the religious aspects of this, by the fact that Shamanism is ancient psychology. I tend to follow Jung’s teachings in psychology. His focus was on archetypes and personality development from outside influence. There is many symbols that relate to shamanism.
In shamanism you focus on your spiritual self as a bridge between two worlds. My personal thought is that shamanism and witchcraft is very similar with one key difference. Shamanism is sacred to its people and the practitioner holds a lot of responsibility, that is something I do not want.
But in the terms of psychology, you can take shamanic practices and use it to understand yourself. Each shaman was a spiritual self that they must learn to control and grow, this done through journeys and practice. You too can go through journeys and grown, as you learn about your spiritual self, you also learn about your own mind.
Some core concepts in the practice of shamanism:
Ability to enter an altered state of consciousness
Experience one or more nonphysical realities that are just as real as the physical world
Use of an altered state of mind to project self awareness from physical to non-physical worlds
Dealing with non-physical beings or spirits.
We will cover all of these concepts in future articles.
The Shamanic and the Hero’s Journey
The shamanic journey is one of self reflection. Journey to the Otherside to meet obstacles and meet with beings that will aid them in healing their community. I want you to relate this to a literary concept known as the Hero’s Journey.

We’re going to discuss how this is the same as the shamanic journey. You start off your spiritual journey with no knowledge. Though spiritual journey and mediation you learn to control your shadow self, this allows you to return as a changed person. This is how you have to look at this, you are on a journey. You started not knowing magic, now you are on the journey to know your true self.
This is part 1 of a new series. The next article will be on the Shadow.

Protonauts of Esoteria
Travelers came to me one day Everything in my life had gone astray They said son, you are the one And how they took me so far away.
The secrets of the past Paths to the future The mysteries of space In time become divine
We are but beasts, you cannot forget Schedules, habits, and rituals. take control of it Learn lessons from others Resist Gluttonous smothers This is survival of the fittest dont you know
The future is tomorrow and also today Yet it is only ever now so start right away There are many tomorrows for you And though some things fall through We’ll have tomorrow to start anew
Through a tear in the fabric we did go Things sped up and got real slow No words but i knew things had to be this way And that i would be who I am, someday
Focus and think Study and learn We are what we do Time is a canvas, Grow and yearn

The alternative to self-love is self-destruction. Because you won’t take the risk of loving yourself properly, you will be compelled instead to destroy yourself. So which would you rather have?
