"I’m glad to hear it, Doctor!" A pause, then: "Gallifrey? I’m sorry to say I’ve not heard of it before. Where is it, if you’ll forgive my ignorance?" He had caught the Doctor’s odd use of was, and wondered at it, but made no comment. “A sight less rainy than London, I hope.”
Do I... know you from somewhere?
The Doctor hadn’t been expecting to meet anyone he knew today. “Possibly; I have been getting my timelines mixed up recently.” He looked the man over curiously. “I’m the Doctor. Ringing any bells?”

Rather amused at his master's rambling, Poole suppresses a smile. "Is that so, sir? Certainly the debates between you ought to encourage him to reconsider his opinions. How do you stand on Darwin's theories, yourself, Master?"
“He, naturally, is all convention,” the doctor returns disdainfully. “If ever I truly knew a man who existed entirely without original thought, it is Dr. Lanyon. He is a fine enough fellow, certainly, and I don’t mean to disregard him on all points — I don’t mean to do that in the least — but in matters of science and of religion, he is quite insufferable. He absorbs the opinions of those before him and regurgitates those views all but verbatim when prompted for his own opinion. I do not believe that he has even read a word of Darwin’s work, Poole; I truly don’t believe that he has." In the course of his tangent, he seems to have quite forgotten Poole’s direct question.

Knowing this, Poole hopes to please the doctor with his reply. He vaguely remembers Jekyll muttering to himself or his peers about Darwin, but he hadn't been paying enough attention at the time to recall their opinions. Finally, he settles for an honest, brief response.
"I am not a man of science, but it all seems rather un-Christian to me, sir... In what way did your opinions differ from Dr. Lanyon's?"
❝What is your opinion, Poole, on those theories of Darwin’s? Dr. Lanyon raised the subject at our last little supper — I should like to hear your thoughts on it.❞
[ By that, naturally, he means that he wishes to hear his view validated; whenever
he finds himself in opposition to Lanyon on some matter of science — an
occurrence, it may be noted, which is not at all uncommon — it gives Jekyll some
private measure of satisfaction to have his own side taken by a third party. ]

More Hyde pose notes! These are mostly dealing with Hyde as Jekyll perceives him in various parts of the story. He actually gets much scarier (in … ways I haven’t drawn out yet) as he is forced to learn more and more creative ways of manipulating Jekyll. As you can see, his early attempts to be OMG!!!! SO SCARY!!!!! don’t impress Jekyll too much.

Surprised by the Doctor’s reaction, Poole smiles politely as he waits for the man to explain the reason for his mirth.
"Ah, you must travel regularly, then! I suppose you are passing through on business. London is a fine place to visit this time of year. May I ask, Doctor, where are you from?"
