We've been introducing you to each member of our dysfunctional family. Today it's that vocal beast you simply know as Kit..... I grew up listening to my mums CDs she had lying around. She was into psychedelic rock and other heavier bands, so I naturally found myself being interested in heavier music. When Nu-Metal arrived, I knew this style was what I wanted to do vocally, and also directed me back to listening to a lot of early Rap/Hip-Hop. Watching videos of old gig footage was the catalyst that sparked the love of live music for me, which was then set in stone after the first ever gig I attended. By being in Seething Akira, being 50% of the rap collective Socks & Sandals, and by being the vocalist of Sleep Token (surprised you guys didn't clock on to that sooner...clearly similar) I get to hang around with some very talented musicians who are like family to me . Not only that, I've met some amazing people at shows along the way, and can't wait until we are all bouncing around together again. Every night this week we'll be introducing you to each member of our dysfunctional family. Tonight the beautiful enigma simply known as Spud. Music gave an angry awkward kid an opportunity to articulate difficult emotions in a (mostly) non-destructive way and I'll always be grateful for that. It gives an opportunity for strangers to truly commune and a chance to be seen without being vulnerable. It's like church for sensible people. What got me into music was the ability to create soundscapes and turn them into memorable, fun songs. I love being locked away with my guitar and seeing what comes out with just me and a click track. Gigging particularly with the Seething Akira boys is a really cathartic and enjoyable experience. I have always had a passion for drums since my first taste as a 12 year old kid at school. From leaving that environment and heading into the world of being a 'grown-up' I found music bridged that gap. From being lost, to finding who you are and what you stand for. Drums has been a life-long passion for me, and I have been hooked on live music since my first show at the Wedgewood rooms in Portsmouth. Being able to pursue a career in music alongside a group of like-minded friends, is something I will always cherish! Drums are for life, not just for Christmas.
