It's funny to think about this, but here we go: the closest genre of fiction to kink is, depending on the kink, either horror or murder mystery. If it's about the process, murder mystery; if it's about the result, horror.

Sadomasochism maps pretty transparently onto horror. Bondage is murder mystery, as is denial and chastity. Pretty much all role-playing is horror, and pretty much all transformation/corruption is murder mystery.

I will always believe the induction is the most important and interesting part of hypnosis, for the same reason I will always believe skydiving is about 1) jumping out of the plane and 2) falling, rather than just reaching the ground. I think there's something really liberating about the idea of corruption. Of the tipping point, you know? When you go from rising to falling. When the momentum runs out and whatever's claiming you starts winning, when it's gone from escape to entrapment being the default. I think there's a real sense of freedom that goes with that.
