Inception AU
Shinra developed the dream sharing technology initially to pit SOLDIERs in training against each other and eventually, Sephiroth himself.
When Shinra goes to war against Wutai, they begin to use the technology to extract information from their prisoners. In the early stages of that process, they use a SOLDIER for brawn and a Turk to do the actual extracting, eventually they refine it to a proper team of people for each extraction.
Shinra comes to allow tests for positions on teams- they typically post a SOLDIER as the leader, a Turk for posing as people close to the target and extracting, and someone with an eye for detail to build the dream.
Depending on the job, the team may be bigger, but those are the three basic roles.
When Cloud failed as a SOLDIER, he tried out to be an Architect, and he had the highest scores of anyone tested so far- it wasn't his dream, but it was better than the infantry, so he took it.
Because of his high scores, he was assigned to Sephiroth's team. From then on, their team was typically Cloud, Sephiroth, and Tseng.
Sephiroth and Cloud start dating, get close. They adopt a kid- Denzel. Angeal and Genesis desert, and Sephiroth wanted to help them, so he and Cloud decide that since Hojo won't help them willingly, they will take the info themselves.
They don't find out anything helpful about Genesis and Angeal; instead, they find out about Jenova.
Sephiroth goes mad, and Cloud kills him. Cloud then kills himself, expecting them to wake. Instead, they end up in limbo.
They live down there for years; long enough for Sephiroth to work through his insanity and anger, but after that, he wants to stay. Limbo is a world he do anything with, exactly what Jenova wanted, but in a place where he won't hurt anyone else.
Cloud loved him, but he wanted to live life again, with real people besides the two of them. To convince Sephiroth to escape, he planted an idea in his mind-
I could meet my mother.
They both knew where she was, in Nibelheim, after they took all the information from Hojo's mind. It convinced Sephiroth to wake up, and so they die together and wake up in the lab. They left, and tried to help the other Firsts, but nothing came of it, and Angeal dies.
For a couple months, everything is fine, but Sephiroth wanted to meet his mother. He never cared before limbo, but he couldn't stop thinking about it after.
Eventually, he decided to go, taking only Cloud with him. Cloud tried to deter him the entire trip up the mountain, but into the reactor he went.
The insanity caused by her voice was gone; he had worked through that in the dream, all that was left was the stark vision of Jenova. She was a monster.
Which made him a monster.
Cloud tried to reason with him, but nothing worked. He was distraught by his own nature, and threw himself into the reactor.
Cloud could no longer return to Midgar; Shinra believed that he killed Sephiroth. Tifa, who was preparing to move to Midgar, agreed to take care of Denzel until it was safe for Cloud to return.
3 years go by with him using his skills in extraction to work his way toward Midgar. He avoided Shinra but wanted to go home, since after what happened in Nibelheim, he no longer considered it home.
When he reached Midgar, Tseng confronts him with a job offer- President Shinra is dying, and he wants to plant the idea of stepping back from the company in Rufus' mind. If Cloud can do it successfully, he will be allowed to return to Midgar with open arms and see Denzel again.
Cloud agrees, and begins to search for a team. Tseng has required that Cloud take on a SOLDIER that he trusts as the Architect, since Tseng himself won't be going and he knows Cloud has issues with his projections.
The SOLDIER Tseng chooses is Zack Fair, who was brought I to the program after Shinra shut down the dream technology.
At this point, the technology is fairly common among civilians, so Cloud puts together a team strong enough to go three dreams deep and cause (commit?) inception.
For the Turk, he chooses Vincent Valentine, who he found beneath the Shinra Mansion before he left Nibelheim.
He needs a chemical compound that will keep them and their target under long enough to get the job done, and for that he chooses Aerith, who provides sleep aid and the tech to civilians who want it.
The last member is Barrett Wallace, who worked for Shinra on one of the extraction teams before they burned his town down for destroying the reactor. Now he has no qualms joining a team to get back at Shinra in some small way.
When Cloud is introducing Zack to the dream technology, Cloud's projection of Sephiroth appears and kills Zack.
While they prepare for the job and Zack learns about Cloud, he also learns about Sephiroth. After he died, Shinra completely purged him from public record, meaning that Zack never heard of him.
One night, he joins Cloud's dream, which is just a series of memories he has of Sephiroth that are designed to lock his projection away, but fails. Zack then tried to help Cloud move on, (because he's Zack) but fails.
While they wait for President Shinra to die, Zack finds himself falling in love with Cloud, even though he is still hung up on Sephiroth.
On the job, they go through the whole three layers of dreams, and Sephiroth shows up at the bottom to kill Rufus, which makes Cloud kill himself and Zack follows.
They all end up in limbo, where Sephiroth is holding Rufus hostage, and Cloud tells Zack to take Rufus and go.
Zack sends Rufus back up, in tandem with Vincent using a phoenix down, so that they can finish the mission, but he stays to get Cloud to come back.
Cloud confesses that he put the idea of meeting Jenova into Sephiroth's mind, and that he spent the past few years telling himself that it wasn't his fault that Sephiroth wanted to see her even after they woke up, since he hadn't known she was alive after.
He admits now that he has known deep down all along that it was his fault Sephiroth died, and he was doing the same thing to himself that Sephiroth was doing when they were in limbo the first time; hiding from reality.
Even so, he decides it's his duty now to stay with his projection of Sephiroth as a way to take ownership of his guilt. (He's been talking to Vincent)
Zack kills the projection of Sephiroth, and reminds Cloud about Denzel. They go up together, and when they wake up for real, Zack confesses his feelings.
Cloud is still raw, so it takes him some time, bit eventually they raise Denzel together.
(are they really awake, or still in limbo? Up to the author!)
Bonus: I'm thinking Vincent was also stuck in limbo, possibly with Lucretia, possibly with Chaos, maybe alone, and Cloud waking him up saved his life, even though he didn't want it.

About Me
Hello, world! I am not new to Tumblr, but this is the first time I will be actually making an effort to maintain a blog, including tags! (I never tag anything on my personal blog, it's a hellscape)
When did I first get into FFVII?
I remember watching my dad play it when I was like 10, but it didn't really interest me then. My first actual final fantasy experience was with X-2 when I was 13, I watched my dad play it and then I had to play it (with some assistance)
I first played 7 when I was in high school, and it's been my favorite ever since! Although I didn't start shipping anything until much more recently! I saw Advent Children this past year and that made me think sefikura would be hot!
Clerith or Cloti?
While obviously my favorite is sefikura, and I am more partial to The Gays™, I always liked both!
Usually I alternate my playthroughs, one for Aerith, one for Tifa, etc! (Every now and then I try for Barret but then I chicken out cuz I hate being mean to the girls.)
Thoughts on Remake?
No spoilers here, I loved it, from start to finish! I know some people didn't like the ending, but I think it will lead to some interesting gameplay in the second game!
What I really adore is the music. I am a music geek, and my playlists for working, writing, and focusing usually consist of slower videogame themes and some Ghibli thrown in.
The music is phenomenal! They knew just where to throw in new pieces, where to alter existing ones, and where to just amp up what they already had! I adore the jukebox concept with collectible music discs.
My only complaint for the whole game is that they took the snaps out of the Turk theme :/.
Why this blog? Why now?
Well the most obvious reason for starting a new sefikura blog now is because of Remake! If you've seen any of the trailers, you know: our boy Sephiroth shows up!
I got a bunch of new ideas for sefikura fanfiction just from the remake, as well as a few ideas for Clack. I'm not the best writer, so I figure if I put my ideas out there, maybe someone will be inspired to write something similar!
