Hello everyone! I wanted to repost this from my twitch account in case any of you lovely study bloggers play any cozy games like sims 4, stardew or animal crossing! I made a challenge and I’d love for you to try it!
I stream now on twitch while I get my minor in Korean! We have a safe inclusive chat, I’d love to see you there --> twitch.tv/maggira
Tumblr media
INTRODUCING….The OCCULT ONLY sims 4 challenge absolutely nobody asked for! Inspired by the @lilsimsie Not So Berry challenge, The Sims 4 “Not So Scary” challenge takes a variety of features from the different spooky packs to guide your sims legacy in a new and spooky direction! This challenge is designed with creative freedom in mind, meaning there are limited trait and aspiration restrictions. Take the story in whatever direction you want to! Each generation also includes a related build (bc idk about y’all but I need to work on my build/buy too) My hope is that this challenge opens up a door for simmers to play with the weird and rejected sims, and experience a new style of gameplay!
Gen 1: 👻 Spooky love story 👻
All your life you’ve felt connected to the “other side” It seemed only fitting to become a paranormal investigator to use your special talent to help others, but maybe there’s more than just career success to be found in those haunted mansions….
✧ become licensed paranormal investigator ✧ master the medium and writing skill ✧ purchase the “brave” reward trait ✧ must fall in love and marry a ghost ✧ live in a haunted house after marriage ✧ have one child who will become the next heir ✧ complete the bestselling author aspiration
BUILD: create a ghost hunters tiny home!
Gen 2: 🧛🏻I’m in love…with a vampire?! 🧛🏻‍♂️
Your dads a ghost, your moms a “kook”, and your maid is a skeleton?! All you’ve ever wanted was a normal family, and to stop being the ~weird kid~ Your parents are always busy with work leaving you with only your art supplies and plopsy shop. That is until the new kid at school shows interest in you…could this be your chance for a normal life?!?
✧ must have loner and creative trait ✧ have no friends your age until s/o is met in teen years ✧ s/o must be a vampire ✧ can never be drank from/see ur s/o in vampire form until dating (bonus if ur married) ✧ master knitting and 1 other creative skill! ✧ complete good vampire aspiration! ✧ have twins (or triplets for added challenge)
BUILD: create a “suburban family dream home” with hidden vampire secrets…
Gen 3: 🕸Twitches get stitches 🕸
The family name is known in the world of the paranormal and unusual, but magical creatures and sorcerers are on the rise. Raised in a household of powerful vampires and motivated to bring fame to your family name, you begin your study of spell craft and train for your fight to become the family heir.
✧ have a sibling rivalry with all of your siblings ✧ each child must master a different area of spell craft (max three) ✧ heir is not chosen until a winner is crowned at a duel that takes place during adult years (option to kill the losing sibling[s] after duel) ✧ heir must achieve lvl 3 fame or above ✧ be the leader of a cult (club) of magical sims only ✧ have at least one child
BUILD: create the perfect magical gathering location for your club of spooky sims
Gen 4: 👑 Who runs the world? 👑
Your family has dominated the supernatural world in every aspect, now it’s time to rule the sim world as the queen/king you are, with a trophy s/o by your side and piles of green to prove it.
✧ achieve negative reputation ✧ live on largest lot in the world u choose ✧ have snob trait ✧ reach lvl 10 in politician or villain career path ✧ marry a GREEN sim (alien or plant sim) ✧ complete fabulously wealthy aspiration
BUILD: create a community lot that honors your family legacy! (a park with your family name, a magical store, a fancy art gallery, the possibilities are endless!)
I hope you all find this challenge to be a fun way to spice up your gameplay with the unusual! You can watch me play this legacy on my twitch and see all my builds and sims under the tag #notsoscarylegacy on the gallery! I will also be posting gameplay and challenge updates on my twitter!

Each conversation in my textbook has a section of “new words” that are divided by parts of speech. Now I can write the parts of speech in Korean!
감사합니다~
Korean Parts of Speech
Tumblr media
English has 8 parts of speech. Korean has 9. Learning parts of speech is crucial to becoming fluent in Korean. So, Today I’m going to introduce you to all nine parts of speech.
1. Noun 명사 [Myeong-sa]
2. Pronoun 대명사 [Dae-myeong-sa]
3. Numeral, quantity indicator 수사 [su-sa]
4. Verb 동사 [dong-sa]
5. Adjective 형용사 [hyeong-yong-sa]
Adjectives shows the quality or state of something.
6. Determiner, pre-noun 관형사 [gwan-hyeong-sa]
Determiners are a word used in front of a substantive(nouns, pronouns, and numerals) and modifies it. Compared to other Korean parts of speech, there are only a few determiners.
7. Adverb 부사 [Bu-sa]
While Determiners modify only Substantives*(체언 [cheeon]. nouns, pronouns, and numerals) Adverbs modify everything. They mostly modify verbs and adjectives, but they can modify determiners, adverbs, and even sentences.
8. ★Post positional particle 조사 [Jo-sa]
*What’s a Post positional article?: Post positional particles are attached behind a noun, pronoun, numeral, and adverbs… They usually stick together with words that are independent. They indicate grammatical relationships or make it more specific in meaning. (particles each have different jobs) Some particles make the word it stuck to a subject (Like -은/는 or 이/가) Or some particles make the word an object (Like  을/를) There are so many particles! It’s very confusing and hard, so study extra hard on Post positional particles.
9. Exclamation, interjection 감탄사 [gam-tan-sa]
These are all nine parts of speech in Korean! To advance to harder grammar, you MUST remember all these nine parts of speech.
I will explain in detail about each part in later grammar lessons! I hope this lesson was helpful😊😊
Since I’m still pretty new to the langblr community, please tell us if we have anything to improve. Thanks!

안녕하세요 친구~ 오랜만이에요
Hello friends, it’s been awhile since I’ve been active. My life has changed so much since I’ve started this blog, so I’ll give you an update!
About me
저는 대학생이에요. 이학연이에요. 20 살이에요!
I’m a sophomore in college and I just turned 20. I am no longer self studying Korean! I’m a linguistics major with a Korean minor at a large state university in America. I’m currently enrolled in Korean 1101. It was a hard decision to decide not to test out of Korean 1, but I decided I would benfit greatly from all the speaking and conversation practice. So far I am loving it! When you self study there are so many details or quirks of pronunciation that can be overlooked. I’ve found that after less than 2 weeks my introduction pronunciation sounds better than ever and I am more confident in all of the 한글 sounds and irregularities.
Blog goals
My goal is to try and document some of what we are learning in class and to use this blog as a study source like I did in the past. If anyone would be interested in a post dedicated to how my class is set up, what we do on a weekly basis, and what book we are using I’d be happy to share!
As always if you have any questions feel free to message me. Happy studying~!

hey guys!!!
so this entire past month has been extremely, extremely stressful for me because i had so many exams and i only realised how hideously unprepared i was for them on the day before the exam, which was really really awful. so in the middle of september i created a studyblr to keep myself motivated + get some helpful tips from the studyblr community on how to go abt studying for tests. the results proved to be super helpful and ive resolved to keep running this blog for as long as i can, because it really helps me stay motivated and i’ve already learned so many things from the community, despite the fact that i’ve only been here for around a month.
but anyways, i decided to create this masterpost in order to help others stay motivated + keep studying not only well but also properly i.e. not necessarily studying for exams but life in general, if that makes sense.

I would actually push against just reading song lyrics as korean lyrics don’t always have correct grammar and they sometimes phrase things unnaturally. Instead, practice your reading through not only music and tv, but example dialogue or children’s books! That way you’re being surrounded by natural written and spoken korean as well. Happy studying~

Hey guys, so instead of a long drawn on post, I’ve made an easy to read version of how to begin studying Asian languages through pictures! Yay!!!! Everything is really straight forward and easy but let me know if you have any questions!

Note
i saw someone say 연보라색 was light purple/lavender, can you add 연 to the beginning of other colors to mean it’s lighter? or is that a special case?
Yeahh I know that you can add 연한 (light) and 진한 (dark) in front of the colour in order to say light and dark!
However, in the case you gave, 연보라색 means ‘lavender’ whereas 연한 보라색 means ‘light purple’. If I have to describe something with colour, then I usually say 연한 or 진한 for light and dark.
So!연한 - light (연한 녹색 - light green)진한 - dark (진한 파란색 - dark blue)     ~ but you can also say 남색 - navy blue // indigo     ~ you can also use 진 in 진홍색 - scarlet // deep red
BONUS밝은 - bright (밝은 빨간색 - bright red)
A lot of colours in Korean might also just be Konglish or not on the ROYGBP spectrum (aka Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Purple):     ~ 마젠타 - magenta     ~ 청록색 - turquoise // green-blue // cyan     ~ 하늘색 - sky blue // sky colour
Long story short, it really depends on the colour and the specificity of that colour (light, dark, bright). I hope this helped ~ Happy Learning :)

How to explain linguistics to your friends and family this holiday season
This time of year often involves leaving the cozy sanctuary of your linguistics department where everyone knows what a wug is and spending quality time with your non-linguist friends and family. Who, bless ‘em, are often a little bit confused about linguistics. So I’ve compiled a list of common questions and some resources to help you answer them. And if you end up needing a break, check out the linguistmas tag and my extensive archive of linguist humour, or contribute to the linguistics baked goods or handcrafts files.
What is linguistics exactly?
Explaining what linguistics is using geology and biology analogies Brain surgeon analogy Car analogy Botany analogy Subfields of linguistics explained using toy metaphors “Becoming conscious of previously unconscious phenomena is one of the principle joys of linguistic work”
So, you’re a linguist? How many languages do you know?
Why linguists hate being asked how many languages they know Learning languages linguistically Turning “how many languages do you know?” into a good conversation using Gricean Maxims
Wow, linguistics, I guess I’d better watch my grammar around you, right?
8 myths about language and linguistics On the interplay between copyediting and descriptivism We each have an idiolect, and they’re all okay How to have a conversation about language differences without being a prescriptivist
That’s not even in the dictionary! So many people are degrading language these days!
Anne Curzan on what makes a word “real” xkcd on kids and text abbreviations and on grammar police vs fashion police Erin McKean, actual lexicographer, on what it means when a word isn’t in the dictionary The kilogram model of language and what’s wrong with the America’s ugliest accent challenge Language is open source Which English you speak has nothing to do with how smart you are People have been complaining about kids degrading language since the Middle Ages The many problems with the idea that emoji are in any way threatening the English language Kids these days aren’t ruining language
Don’t you just hate it when people say…?
In defence of “unnecessary” words Every argument you’ll ever need for singular “they” (plus the Canadian government’s support of it, why do we even have gendered pronouns, and a comparison with singular “you”) In defence of hyperbolic “literally” Vocal fry and can we stop hating on how young women talk? When it comes to Rachel Jeantel, who’s really on trial here?  Can we just, like, get over the way women talk? Move over Shakespeare, teen girls are the real language disruptors The problem with talking about “sounding gay” Why Chaucer said “ax” instead of “ask” and why some still do An interview with Alexandra D’Arcy about why “like” is so interesting
____ isn’t a real language!
Indigenous languages, literacy, and the myth of the “unwritten language” What if we talked about monolingual White children the way we talk about low-income children of color? Myth-busting about sign languages The strange reason deaf children aren’t taught sign language
A linguistics degree? What are you going to do with that?
Check out the linguistics jobs series to help think about options beyond academia, or send people there to reassure them that options exist.
What kinds of gifts can I give the linguist in my life?
An extensive list of pop linguistics books and lingfic (be sure to read the comments!) Here are linguistics merch/gift guide roundups from 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and Lingthusiasm merch: IPA scarves and descriptivist t-shirts, bags, and mugs
So I know this young person who might be interested in linguistics. Do you have any advice for them?
Any of the books in the list of books! How to teach yourself linguistics online for free  Intrigued by the linguistics in Arrival? Here’s what to check out next
Specifically for high schoolers: How to participate in the international linguistics olympiad and Linguistics resources for high school teachers
Advice on finding a linguistics undergrad, whether to go to grad school for linguistics (and more advice), and how to pick a linguistics graduate program
Tell me something interesting about linguistics!
My go-to at parties is the script in Explaining English plurals to non-linguists, or put on any episode of Lingthusiasm.
For a longer list of linguistic writing pitched at non-linguists, try here for articles I’ve written, here for other blogs, or here for some of my top blog posts. To write your own, see advice for writing pop linguistics articles and how pop linguistics differs from teaching and pop science. Or go for linguistics videos,  linguistically-relevant games, or this list of linguistics and language podcasts.

hey!! how do i say things like 'my name is" and "I am 15 years old". kind of like introducing myself? Thank you in advance :))
Hello Anon! Self-Introduction (자기소개) is one of the most important steps to learning Korean - cause you’ll most likely have to use it when you introduce yourself to a native Korean speaker. Here’s what you can use:
이름이 뭐예요 / 무엇습니까? - What is your name?          내/제 이름이 ‘x’ 이에/예요 / 입니다 - My name is ‘x’몇 살이세요/입니까? - How old are you? (lit. how many years?)   ~ also: 나이가 어떻게 되세요?          나/저는 ‘x’ 살이에/예요 / 입니다 - I am ‘x’ years old (numbers)어디에(서) 왔어요 / 살아요 / 태어났어요/습니까? - Where are you from? Where do you live? Where were you born?          나/저는 ‘x’에(서) 왔어요 / 살아요 / 태어났어요. - I am from ‘x’. I live           in ‘x’. I was born in ‘x’. 무슨 일을 하세요 / 합니까? - What do you do?          나/저는 ‘x’이에/예요 / 입니다. - I am ‘x’취미가 있습니까? - Do you have any hobbies?          /제 취미가 ‘x’기예요 / 입니다. - My hobby is ‘x’
Other common phrases to use:만나서 반갑습니다 / 반가워(요) - nice to meet you오빠/누나/언니/형(이)라고 불러줘 / 주세요 - Call me big brother / big sister왜 한국어를 공부하세요? - why are you studying Korean?
How to put it into practice:안녕하세요! 저는 희주예요. 저는 20살이에요. 토론토에 살지만,벤쿠버에 태어났어요. 대학교에 가요. 그렇서 대학생이에요. 16살 때부터 한국어를 공부하고 있어요. 자유시간에 한국어를 가르치는 것을 좋아해요. 제 취미가 노래하기예요.
