So, uh, I really got into the Citizen Sleeper games and finally got back to writing fics (I haven't published one since November of last year because I honestly see my Nimona one as such a failure since it has no comments at all.)

Anyway, The Citizen Sleeper fic is darker than my usual stuff so heed the tags on this one. The gorier ones have to do with the sleeper but their insides are full of metal parts and synthetic organs, so it's not as graphic as it would be for a human.

Anyway, here it is. I don't know if any future fics will stay here, I might just move them to another blog because they're going to be dark and whumpy, we'll see.

Summary:

When the sleeper ends up missing, Serafin and the crew get worried and search for them, they quickly realize that the sleeper had been taken by someone they've met before. Someone had offered them a contract that they turned down. A large amount of cryo for the opportunity to take the sleeper apart. Now this person has decided to take what he wants by force and Serafin, Bliss, Juni, and the others scramble to rescue them. Takes place just before the Darkside recon mission.

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.

I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.

If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.

And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
