the thing that frustrates nicko more than anything is the sadness that sits like a weight in the middle of his chest.

he’s sick of it, entirely sick of it. the worst is when he can’t even think of a fathomable reason as to why it’s there, nestled into his core too comfortably. it just sits. existing. persisting.

he hates that it comes in moments of silence, moments he used to long for. nicko likes his silence; it’s a commodity he didn’t get very often growing up. but these days, he can’t stand it. his brain and his heart seem to be conspiring against him in these long quiet stretches because they become truly unbearable. despair, followed by a voice he’s come to despise telling him what he already knows: that there’s no reason for him to feel this way. that doesn’t stop it from happening.

and the worst part is, he doesn’t even know how to combat it, how to fight it, how to do whatever he has to to just feel whole and okay again. he doesn’t tell anyone; he jokes about sadness, and the way the sea calls to him over the edge of the boat.

he lies and says he’s more sociable now because of the time he missed in the past. he knows it’s not true. social interaction drains him more than it ever did, but he craves it, he needs it, it’s the only thing that keeps that voice at bay for any amount of time.

it doesn’t get rid of the weight though. no matter how he rationalizes to himself, he can’t get rid of it. it just stays there.

Normally by this point, dashboard osmosis has given me a rough idea what everybody's latest Thing is. But Dungeon Meshi? I have no idea what is going on with Dungeon Meshi. My best guesses so far are: -

There probably is a literal dungeon that they are in at least some of the time

It's also highly possible that some of the things I'm assuming are Dungeon Meshi related are actually Locked Tomb, because I never figured out what that was about either.
