Why You Should Help Save The Bees
If you haven’t heard there are many ecosystems with plants and animals that are being destroyed every day. This is a big issue especially for the bees, many plants/flowers are being destroyed which means bees aren’t able to pollinate them and get what they need to survive, if there are more habitats that are going to be destroyed the bees may go extinct. Other ecosystems are being affected as well but some plants will be fine and some won’t be able to reproduce without bees. Mankind will not survive the honeybee disappearance for more than five years – A. Einstein. Beekeepers are use to only about 5% to 10% of the bees dying every year, but for the past decade losses have jumped to 30% which is way higher than before. Also, if you did not know bees provide us with about one-third of the food we eat. Fruits, vegetables, and nut harvests would fail without the bees. Since 2006, around 10 million of the beehives (about 2 billion in value) were lost. A lot of the beehives that died were because of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) were found to have the varroa mites that are also killing the bees. A lot of the beekeepers have attributed a lot of the bee population decrease to the queen bees that now are having short life spans. They didn’t just stop living as long as before, they are also now running out of their sperm supplies much earlier, and to even top that, the queen only mates once in her life. The number of sperms that the queen bee gets determines what the length of her reign will be. The queen bee should not get replaced far around a solid few years in a healthy bee hive. When the queen bee has a shorter life span it will result in less time for the queen to fertilize the eggs. Therefore, when the next generation comes there will be fewer worker bees, and that will lead to poorer care for the new larvae. In turn, it means that the existence of even less worker bees in the next generations. So, what can we do? Well, there are many thigs we can do to help with the bee decrease like decreasing or stopping deforestation and help plant more flowers and plants, maybe on a nice summer or spring day go out and get some seeds or already grown flowers and plants so you can help plants some and that will help contribute to helping the bees. Even the tiniest things help with the bee decrease. Something else you could do is make or buy a home for the bees where they can build their beehive.

My name is Serafina, I am 14 years old and I am in 9th grade. Everything in our everyday life has science in it, when you wake up and touch the ground that’s gravity pulling you down with gravitational pulls, when you go to the fridge to grab a snack or some food, there is electricity that is flowing into the refrigerator which is keeping that fridge cold. When you go on a trampoline and bounce back down that is also gravity pulling you down with gravitational pulls. When you turn the lights on in a room there is energy which is electricity flowing to the light which powers it to turn on, as well when you rub your feet on the carpet very fast it feels like your feet are warming up and that is called friction when you are rubbing your feet back and forth very fast on a carpet material. Also, as well when I go to heat up some toast in the toaster oven there is electricity which is flowing to the toaster oven which makes heat and therefore, makes my bread into nice crispy toast. I feel like I would choose a career in science because for one, it is one of my favourite subjects and I love to learn new things in science. Secondly, I might also choose a career in science because I will be able to exceed my knowledge and even help people. Thirdly, if I would get a job in science then there is a lot of options I can choose from because there are so many different jobs that you can get in science. Lastly, I just think if we knew more about science and learned more then there would be unimaginable things, we could create build and solve in our everyday life’s.
