Writing while listening to a playlist is an advice I see almost everywhere.
It does not work for me. It makes my brain go numb.
I get stuck in the middle of writing when I am listening to music.
And my thoughts are clearer when I write without music.
Same goes with reading. I have to read one sentence multiple time to get it through my brain.
So, yes that advice does not work for me.

Thought I would post a little blurb of the oneshot I’m working on for my series! It’s only been two weeks but it feels like I’ve been writing this for ages and I just have to get some part of it out there, even if it means only two people will see it (the two people being myself and my mutual (hi there btw), but that’s fine)
Prompt: Hermione and Draco have been secretly friends with benefits for 5 months. As time goes on, things slowly become more complicated, but neither of them are willing to mention it. Things come to a head when Draco is gone for a week and a half and doesn’t let Hermione know.
Hermione and Draco had an interesting friends with benefits situation going on. He would come over however many times a week, bring her food on occasion, and ravage her endlessly for what seems like hours in bed. They would cuddle up in her bed afterwards, eat, talk about everything and nothing, and he would stay the night. Sometimes he would stay for the weekend if they were both free, explaining that he needed to make up for lost time if he was particularly busy the week before. Hermione never complained about it though; she liked the extra attention she got from him and the chance to not have to clean dishes every night.
While Hermione found this arrangement between them to be quite enjoyable, she eventually started to realize that they were hanging on a delicate thread of hooking up and being something more to each other.
Even though ‘friends’ is in the term, she couldn’t help but feel like they skipped the friend part almost immediately and something else was brewing in between them. Rough kisses from Draco turned into something soft and and delicate, stunted small talk turned into conversations that would last until three in the morning, desperate hands looking for purchase turned into soft caresses and — to put it short, they were doing things that people in a exclusive relationship would do.
They did everything but claiming each other.
Hermione wouldn’t dare bring it up though.
At first she wanted to deny the attraction she felt for Draco outside of the bedroom, chalked it up to the fact that she was sexual with him so it wasn’t unusual to feel something. As time went by, her feelings became increasingly harder to ignore when it came to him, especially since it looked like he felt the same way. While she desperately wanted something more with him, she didn’t want to ruin this small peace of heaven she’s found, rejection being high on her list of things that she didn’t want from him.
She’s about to take another bite of her food, savoring the flavors of the samosa, when she feels a lingering heat on her back, and then a soft puff of air on her neck. She’s smiles to herself and chews, refusing to lean back into his chest.
“Are you enjoying your food?” He asks, placing his hands on both sides of her counter and looking around her shoulder, giving her no way to escape him.
“I am, thank you Malfoy. So happy you picked up samosas this time, they’re delicious. Wish you would have picked up a drink too.” She mumbles in between chewing.
“I’ll make sure to pick one up next time as long as you stop doing that.” Draco says, a bit of frustration in his tone.
“Doing what?”
“Calling me Malfoy instead of Draco.” He says, an odd silence falling between them.
“Well, that is your name.” She answers, turning around to look at him, instinctively backing up to the counter when she notices how close he is to her. “Is there a problem with that?”
Draco looks at her with a furrowed brow and cocks his head to the side, trying to figure out what’s wrong and it makes her nervous. She’ll never get used to having his full attention no matter what.
“Why are you mad with me, and don’t say it’s about me being late because that’s a load of bullshit. I’ve always came around a few minutes late before and you’ve never given me shit about it, although I will say this time was a bit egregious, so I am sorry, but I know that’s not why you’re cross with me.” He crosses his arms, looking at her expectantly for an answer.
’’It’s nothing.’’ Is all Hermione can say to him, and he scoffs.
”Liar.”
”Excuse y-‘’
”Hermione, if it really was ‘nothing’, you would be calling me by my name, talking to me about that new book that’s sitting on your counter, and offering me some of that horrendous cheap wine that you insist on drinking. Tell me what’s wrong so I can fix it.” Draco says the last part softly, brushing his fingers against her cheek. Hermione closes her eyes, reveling in the way that he touches her, and a long silence falls between them that Hermione is willing to let go on for as long as she can, just so she doesn’t have to be in this conversation with him.
But she also knows that they will in fact stand here all night if she doesn’t just say it.
“You were gone for a week and a half.”
Another beat of silence.
“I was.”
“You didn’t tell me you were gonna leave.”
”I wasn’t under the impression that I needed to update you on my whereabouts.”
Now it was her turn to roll her eyes. “No, you don’t. I don’t expect you to at all. But it would’ve been nice to know.’’ She explains, feeling like an idiot.
”It would’ve been nice to know.” He parroted back to her, and she nodded profusely.
”Yes! I got used to how often your over here now, so you can only imagine my disappointment when I realized that I wasn’t going to get laid.” She says, and regrets it instantly when she sees Draco deflate just a bit as he pulls his hand away from her face, and steps away.
”So you’re mad at me because I wasn’t here to fuck you.” Draco clarifies, and she cringes, regretting her words again. Referring to him as nothing but a way to get off was low, even if she didn’t mean that. He was so much more than that to her, and here she was messing it up because she couldn’t be honest.
”I wouldn’t use such colorful language, but yes.” She said, and watched as his brows furrowed deeper, mentally slapping herself for saying that.
”Well then. My deepest apologies for keeping you waiting so long for release.” He snapped, “For a second I thought you were going to say that you missed me.” He finished off, locking eyes with her.
The tension between them was so thick Hermione could slice through it and the room would still be over pouring with it.
They stared at each for a while, both not willing to be the first to speak up. The look on Draco’s face was devastating to her, but she couldn’t look away. The hurt on his face was too much for her to handle, and she knew that he could see right through her facade. He wanted her to say those three words that hung in the air, but he wouldn’t force it out of her. She would have to say it herself.
”What if I did miss you.” She whispered, and watched as he went stock still.
‘’I’m sorry?”

Well that’s all for now! I do wanna get this chapter fully edited and posted on ao3 in like two weeks AT LEAST. If i can get it out before college starts for me that would be ideal, but work also gets in the way and I’ve somehow already had the ao3 curse get me (I’m a bit sick) so we’ll see. If you’ve found this post and actually read it, thank you! I’ve not written a single thing since I was 11 and I’m 24 now, so I’m a bit (more like very) rusty. Let me know how you like it!!

Editing your own work whether it be a traditional book or a fanfiction is not for the weak. I’ve been up for way longer than I should editing my dramione oneshot and I’m getting mad at the version of me that was just typing away for shits and giggles because the amount of TYPOS i had was simply outrageous. I literally had typos in this and had to fix it before i hit post.

Literally cannot emphasize enough that my #1 writing advice is to stop being afraid. Stop being afraid of sounding too cringe, or too stupid, or too horrifying, or too horny, or too weird, or too much, or too little, or too you. You need to put your entire pussy into your art. Sure, it won't be to everyone's tastes, but if you keep yourself to the blandest tamest safest roads possible you will be of no one's tastes, not even yours.
