Last weekend, I attended Infinity Wars, the new Avengers movie. The experience was so wonderful, as the plot was complex and the special effects were great! I also was very impressed by the acting, which is unusual in many superhero movies. I was not a huge fan of the Avengers before this, but this movie made me want to watch more! I plan on looking more into the series.

In completing my process binder, I have chosen to show slides from my final video which show one example of how I portrayed one decade of music, fashion, and my explanation of the relationship between the two, as seen in the images.  I also included my introductory page.  The final video was so rewarding and I am so satisfied with my final product.  I also included my graph which allowed me to find the most popular modern music, as well as the slide which finally depicted my final sketches which I showed during the video! I am very proud of my work on this project and hope I can use this information for future endeavors.

I recently attended a production of Urinetown at my alma mater, Huntingtown High School. The production was incredible! I was first a bit skeptical because of the name, but I was instantly prove wrong as the script and cast were all fantastic! It was clear they put a great deal of effort into their performance. I also very much enjoyed the props used during the performance. I can’t wait to come back and see another production again soon.

Last week, my mom and I attended the Tent of Color Arts Exhibition and Coloring Tent at Anne Marie Gardens in Solomons, MD. This was a beautiful art exhibition that allowed us all to honor the expression of many beautiful cultures, including African American and Hindu cultures. The tent gave us all a chance to embrace new kinds of art and music which we do not experience everyday. I enjoyed this event a lot and hope to attend something similar in the future.

On this post for my Process Binder, I show the beginning stages of my research of the first few decades’ popular music and fashion trends. I have focused on icons in music and genres from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s so far and am currently working on the 1950’s. I have also started to locate images which accurately depict the trends from each decade. There are many similarities I am seeing in the earlier decades so far, such as the important of jazz and big band music, as well as similarities in the fashion trends, as the vibrant jazz music of the nighttime led to vibrant, gaudy outfits in return. The apparent changes in dress are most frequently seen in daytime dress, which was often indicative of social class. This is just preliminary, and I will later indicate to a greater extent how the jazz and big band styles in particular influenced the fashion trends. The images and titles are all digital now, since I decided to pursue a video as the form of my project now.

Music: Last weekend, I attended a music performance with my mom at The Lobby Coffee Bar, a small venue with live music and coffee every weekend. We saw Magic Ray Jazz Group in their performance of a variety of different jazz pieces. Their harmonies were exquisite and the bass solos were particularly mesmerizing. I hope to be able to see them again next time they are in town at this venue!

I traveled with my friends Jovi and Sarah from work to the National Museum id African American History and Culture in order to view exhibits, presentations and films. A particular short film we viewed during our visit was one regarding “the lens of social justice” and it was from a series regarding race and the impact on social justice. I watched as individuals of minority races experienced different legal trials and tribulations that most caucasian individuals never have to experience. It really opened my eyes to the idea of social injustice through art.

Today I got to attend Sinatra Night at a small restaurant venue in Solomon’s Island! It was a combination of well known jazz and big band pieces. The two men were incredibly talented and the ambiance made the event even better. I hope to be able to attend more events like this in the future.

Over the past week, I’ve been to DC many times to visit Arts Museums and my favorite so far has been the Smithsonian American Arts Museum. I loved this piece in particular because of its modern nature and style. It represents the regional and cultural differences, just by using different synonyms or “slang” terms for one word, even just across the country. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here.

Last week, I traveled home to watch a performance of Billy Elliot at my old High School! My next door neighbor played the lead, a young man training to become a ballet dancer during the 80’s. I was impressed by the mature acting of the young students, as well as the special effects. I also thoroughly enjoyed the tap number. It was a treat!

Last night, I saw Lil Pump at the Fillmore! While rap may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. He was incredibly entertaining and the atmosphere was electric. I mostly enjoyed his performance of “Gucci Gang”, as the lights changed to bright purple and green, which added energy to the crowd and the stage.

Theatre Performance: On April 29th, I went to go see a performance of the play "Once Upon a Mattress" at a school in my hometown that my mom works at, as my mom was a director in the show. The play was a spin off of "The Princess and the Pea". The play was full of humor and a great plot line. I enjoyed the sets and it was surprisingly good acting for such a young cast!

For my music performance, I had the privilege of seeing John Mayer play at the Verizon Center last night. He did an entire compilation of all of his different phases of music in his career, such as his acoustic phase and his blues phase, as well as his trio phase. He played some of my favorite songs such as: 3x5 and Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. The lighting and scenery for the show was out of this world. His voice sounded pure and clear. He is a truly special artist.

Today, my mom and I traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit The O Street Mansion. This mansion is supposed to be "secretive" and requires reservations in order to get full tours. Many famous people, including The Beatles and Rosa Parks, lived or stayed in this house at some point in history. The mansion depicts various pieces of visual art and artifacts from different visitors, famous artists throughout history. My personal favorite was the painting of Diana Ross with very bright colors. This was an amazing experience
