Headcannon: Roach knows about germ theory when no one else does it's just that he thinks microbes are fairies and he calls them fairies and he knows that there's evil fairies that curse you with diseases everywhere and that certain fungus can kill evil fairies and that washing your hands and alcohol can also kill evil fairies and that there are good fairies that live in your body that keep things running with magic. He just also thinks you have to leave gifts out for them. Yeast is also good fairies to him. Everyone except Frenchie thinks he's insane until the greater revenge polycule syphilis outbreak of 1719. Roach makes them eat some gross ass penicillin. But the evil fairies do get banished and they integrate the fey theory of disease into their belief system

I just cannot with the “you shouldn’t participate in fandoms that have bad creators!” shaming while y’all still pay for Amazon and Disney+ and generally do ~hateful comment activism~ that doesn’t extend as far as material economic reality. I pirate the shows, pay fan artists, and leave nice comments on fics. It’s the one little corner of my life where I can be unabashedly queer and autistic and light up my dopamine receptors while harming no one. If I wanted to engage in abstract morality discourse I would rejoin a church.

so i don't mean to alarm anyone, but

in this scene where Stede closes the curtains, it appears that his belt has been taken off -- 4th pic is of Stede in the same pants with belt on for comparison

i mean, at this point he's still wearing it, soooo---

do you think that Stede took Ed's hands in his, & guided them to his belt buckle, looked into Ed's eyes, and with shaking breath, just said "please"

I think this is a really huge aspect of why I (and so many others) gravitate so strongly towards Ed as a comfort character. It’s so hard to find characters that reflect that specific experience of surviving even when it feels like the cons outweigh the pros and you don’t understand how it could ever get better.

Ed Teach survived just like us, and not only that, but he got his happy ending! Ed Teach represents hope and his narrative reminds us that no matter how long it’s been dark we are capable and deserving of making it to the light.

I love him so much

It breaks me that two of Ed’s reasons for what he likes about living are on the very bottom rung of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And even intimacy (level 3) is phrased in such a way it might as well be.

Warmth? Fucking warmth? Ed may as well say - Reasons I like living: I enjoy breathing.

This is the traumatised boy speaking.

Ed’s list is reptilian-brain survival.

The thing is, Ed knows humans need more than this in order to thrive which is why he states his con as ‘I don’t think anyone’s waiting for me’.

But I think it does show Ed wants to live. He’ll take the bare minimum rather than set a high bar. He lists very achievable things.

Even if it’s for basic reasons, even if no one is waiting for him, a part of Ed really, really wants to live.
