Hello, it’s your friendly neighborhood Internet historian here. As I recently realized we are nearing the 10 year anniversary of this particular meme I thought it might be useful to share its prestigious story.

Early in 2005 a blogger got a bootleg DVD of Revenge of the Sith, which included terrible subtitles which had been translated from English into Chinese and then back into English. The title, despite being written on the screen anyway, was subbed as “Star War: The Backstroke of the West” and contained numerous running jokes such as the phrase “Jedi Council” consistently being translated as “Presbyterian Church”. 

At the end of the movie, Darth Vader screaming “NOOOOOO” was translated simply as “Do not want”.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Something to add: there is evidence that Type 1 diabetes is actually an autoimmune disease (ie the body mistakenly attacking healthy structures)

I haven’t heard any new research on type 2 though

fatphobia and ableism is so insidious. You can look up like, food, and it'll say "eating a lot of food causes diabetes" and you're like oh dang what? I thought we didn't know the cause of diabetes. So you look up what causes diabetes and it says "we still don't know what causes diabetes" bruh they're just making shit up to give people eating disorders

bro even legend of Zelda has more of this type of thing: gerudo are all women more or less (its complicated), Zora are fish people and there's two subspecies of them, Rito are bird people (but also possibly descendants of fish people? very complicated), Gorons are literally living rocks who don't really have gender or a bio sex (they canonically bud off of special veins of rock and call each other "brother"), fairies who are balls of light, forest spirit children (koroks), and there's plenty more species and cultures that are exclusive to a particular game (like the Twili or minish).

And then like so many other series go really wild with this (like the frankly identical seeming Luminoth from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, or any series or work who have shapeshifters)

Star Wars really is so boring and not imaginative at all when it comes to gender and sexuality.

Walk with me for a sec: women with no tits bc they lay eggs. A bunch of species where the afab ones are larger, and species where they have "male" voices due to their size. Unisex species where you just can't fucking tell like with some birds. Species that don't have sex and/or gender at all. Species and cultures that have more genders than you can comprehend. You could transition and nobody would gaf because some species do that naturally, anyway. Homosexuality is uncontroversial since a human man sleeping with a human man is hardly weird when he could just as well be sleeping with a Wookiee instead. Or a Twi'lek. Or a Trandoshan.

The "rules" we're familiar with should become near obsolete in a multi-species universe if you think about it. There is SO MUCH and we're barely scratching the surface here!!
