Since all of the characters names have a connection to them, what other tidbits do you add to further connect a character to their theme/motif?

Plenty of stuff

Aika (star) is generally bright and cheery. Zips around like a shooting star. Looks small initially but in actuality is larger than life. Hoshi similarly, is bright and cheery for the most part.

Zira (moon) is much more low-key, seemingly insignificant in comparison to other celestial bodies, but is important and plays her role well (grounding and reliable).

Eclipse/Elio (sun) is bright, in your face and showy like the sun but is putting on this facade of darkness (eclipsing himself).

Lady DeVoid (voids/black holes) is everything and nothing at the same time. All consuming, selfish, powerful but also because her memories are gone, is somewhat aimless and floating, not really knowing what to do with herself.

And Miss (earth) is probably the most down to earth of the cast. Tired, put through the ringer but does her best to help her students grow. What she doesn't realize is that she also needs to take care of herself to be able to provide.

Aika and Zira look slightly older to me in the last comic, is that intentional or am I seeing things?

Yeah! I've been trying to land on more solid, older looking, animation friendly styles (for reasons). Though I don't really like how they look in that comic. It felt kinda unnatural for me to draw and also doesn't quite match the really cartoony expression work I tend to do like in the pilot. I've kinda landed on a look I like tho!

my personal hc for aika's parents is that they're around. they're alive. they're breathing. but they're not really present in aika's life.

to keep up with the star motif, i think aika's parents are both scientists. busy with their research. busy with papers and conferences and meetings. busy enough that they're really not present in aika's life.

her parents are geniuses and aika is too. she learned how to be self-reliant at a young age. go look something up in a book instead of asking her parents. fixing things on her own. (kinda thinking like alex from modern family. booking her own doctor's appointment and cooking her own meals or ordering out.)

this is how hoshi meets aika. a smart and lonely girl who could use a little light in her life.
