you realize how terrifying star wars can get once the stormtroopers actually start hitting their targets..
like normally stormtroopers are basically used as props. they are there to make the empire seem massive and authoritarian but they never actually do anything of relevance unless the plot calls for it.
but in andor? fucking terrifying. when they got the order to shoot at will and you saw just how many people actually died, how many bodies were laying there. they weren't just props to make the empire seem big and scary, they were military soldiers who killed as many people as they could once they got the order. It was fucking horrifying

Quotes from "ANDOR" which keep haunting me:
"Gets to you, doesn't it? That's what a reckoning sounds like."
"That's just love. Nothing you can do about that."
"But this time... You can't stay and I can't go."
"Power doesn't panic."
"I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude."
"Never more than twelve."
"ONE WAY OUT!"
"I've made my mind a sunless place. I share my dreams with ghosts."
"I can't swim."
"Let's call it war."
"Tyranny requires constant effort. Authority is brittle. It breaks, it leaks. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that."
"Freedom is a pure idea."
"I show you the stone in my hand, you miss the knife at your throat."
"Tell him I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong."
"The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep."

The Islamic Origins of the Jedi
Ramadan starts in a few days so I figured that now was a great time to talk about this!
(Disclaimer: My point here isn’t to detract from other sources of inspiration that GL used to create the Jedi, but simply to point out another, lesser known one that many often overlook or intentionally refuse to acknowledge.)
I’m Muslim. My family follows the Hanafi madhab, and the guidance of the Naqshbandi order of Sufi masters, mystics, and teachers. I’m by no means an expert or a scholar, but the Sufi theology and view of the Divine is so clearly prevalent as one of the many inspirations for the Force and the Jedi, that it’s hard to get ignore - and it’s hard to watch while people choose to ignore it.
For starters, we know that during his research for the films, George Lucas met and consulted with the Habibiyyah Sufi order in California. He asked questions and learned what they believed.
Something else that’s hard to ignore is the robes that the Jedi wear! I know they’re commonly thought to be inspired by other origins, but I’d like to point out that the traditional Sufi robes look similar to the Jedi as well.

Still not convinced?
Let’s look at the origins of the word ‘Jedi’. While most believe that it comes from the word ‘jidaigeki’, as GL has mentioned in passing, there is an Arabic equivalent that’s translated to fit the meaning of the Jedi Order with surprising accuracy.
The word is Al-Jeddi, which translates to ‘master of the mystic warrior way’.
In an article released by a prominent Sufi Muslim order, ‘jeddi’ is mentioned by name and a definition that looks and sounds familiar to the Jedi Order of Star Wars and how the Force is viewed by them:
“We are, at our core, a Movement of Jeddi; Sufi masters of Futuwwat ("the Way of the mystic-warrior"). We encourage adherents to train both physically AND spiritually, for their own personal edification and to enhance their knowledge and abilities in the Struggle. The Balance does not lie alone in contemplation, prayer and meditation; nor does it lie alone in action and revolution.”
At the end of the day, we know that Star Wars appropriated from many, many sources that went mostly uncredited and ignored - in ways that had lasting and negative impacts on the peoples and cultures that served as inspiration - and this was one of them.
One of my biggest complaints about the appropriation present here is that it is an opportunity missed - a big one. There was an opportunity to educate, to help others understand what is often misunderstood, simply by being transparent about what you took, from whom, and most importantly, why.
So I’m sharing this with you now, because education is everything, and it is so, so important to be aware of examples of things like this in the media we consume!

Kallus stalked into Echo Base's main messhall kitchen as the staff were clearing up from the second dinner rotation of the cycle. "Which of you were working here during lunch?" he snapped at the nearest person there.
The dozen or so staff members exchanged glances. Four of them started laughing. Kallus stomped toward them with enough lethal intent that they stopped, although they kept on smirking.
"Did you want to take leftovers back to that trash hauler you live in?" one of them asked.
The rest started laughing again. They were lucky Hera and Chopper were still in the medbay, where they couldn't hear that insult to the Ghost. The kitchen staff who didn't act like they were friends with this group were finding things to do at the other end of the room.
There were subtle ways to handle this situation. Kallus was not in the mood for subtlety. His blaster was in his hand and pointed at the nearest giggler's head before he thought it through. That stopped all these bastards' laughter.
"Hey, Imp, it's just diablotin oseille," stammered the one Kallus was imagining putting a blaster bolt in. "Your stomach cramps'll stop before tomorrow noon, it's a joke, a prank, you know, a--"
"I'm fine. Garazeb Orrelios is suffering through a series of injections and possibly surgery."
"It's... No, that can't be right. It doesn't even affect Wookiees." The kriffing poisoner looked to his friends for support, but they didn't look so certain as they had a moment ago.
"He's a Lasat." Kallus's blaster hand shook slightly as he forced himself not to pull the trigger. "And he's allergic."
Zeb had also been fine directly after he ate the food Kallus didn't have the appetite to finish himself. The crushed leaves these bastards put in his meal left Kallus with minor stomach cramps. Thirty minutes after lunch, Zeb's throat had swollen shut.
The panic in Zeb's widening eyes, his horrible wheezing breaths, and the way he clutched at his throat would be burned into Kallus's memory forever. When Zeb's legs gave out on their way to the medbay, Kallus had barely been able to catch him before he crashed onto the icy floor. Even now, Kallus could still feel Zeb's grasp on his shoulder as he went down.
As soon as Hera, Jacen, and Chopper arrived at the medbay to support Zeb, and the doctors could assure Kallus that Zeb would live, Kallus had come here.
The kitchen contained five fewer staff than it had when Kallus arrived, and he hadn't started shooting yet. Somebody was running to report him. He'd have to wind this up quickly.
"This is a warning." Kallus's voice had taken on its old ISB severity, and he couldn't find it in himself to care. "If you ever put unlisted ingredients, seasoning, anything in the food here again, no one will find your bodies."
"We didn't know, we didn't think--"
"I don't care."
Kallus had memorized their faces well enough to describe them to their superior, who he would be speaking with tomorrow morning. He holstered his blaster and left through the kitchen's back door as what sounded like a whole squad of base security personnel entered through the door to the dining area. With any luck, the poisoners would find themselves reassigned to perimeter patrol this time tomorrow.
