I wonder when exactly it was that Star Trek stopped being perceived as light, fluffy, not-really-legitimate sci fi that ~housewives~ liked and started being seen as serious nerd business that girls had to keep their gross cooties off.

“For Sansa’s wedding dress the designer Michele Clapton wanted to have an embroidered band that wrapped around which symbolistically told Sansa’s life from the Tully and Stark beginnings to the entanglement with the Lannisters,” says Michelle, “The dress colour was still very much Sansa Stark and the embroidery had pale golden tones but woven through the story are ripe red pomegranates, the red colour symbolising the growing Lannister influence over her.

Ontario’s minister responsible for post-secondary education says institutions’ future funding will depend on metrics such as graduates’ earnings.
The Progressive Conservative government announced in its recent budget that it will start tying more funding for the province’s colleges and universities to performance outcomes.
Only a small proportion of funding has been linked to institutional performance in recent years - 1.4 per cent for universities and 1.2 per cent for colleges - but that will go up to 60 per cent in the next five years.
On budget day, the government could not specify what criteria would be used to evaluate performance, but Training, Colleges and Universities Minister Merrilee Fullerton listed some today in the legislature.
She says the metrics will include student graduation rate, experiential learning opportunities, graduate earnings, graduate employment and skills and competencies.
Fullerton says that will encourage universities and colleges to improve those outcomes.

Starting this summer, Edmontonians will see electric buses rolling down the road – as two test buses hit the streets ahead of a 50-bus roll-out in 2020.
The City of Edmonton recently received grant funding from both the province and the federal government to help purchase dozens of electric buses to replace old diesel buses as they reach the end of their lifespan.
“These buses are obviously going to be fantastic for the environment, but they’re also going to save us money on the operating side of things too,” Councillor Andrew Knack said.
“When we were debating this a few years ago, we had some really detailed business cases that showed while the bus costs a little bit more up front, the actual operating cost of this is far less than our standard buses. How do you go wrong in a situation where you’re getting better value for money overall and we’re helping achieve our environmental objectives that we’re working on as a city?”

"just go to HR, go to your union"
Ya so that's what my mom did when a girl who was hired after her & worked less hours than her got a raise at the grocery store before her on a bullshit technicality. The union twiddled their thumbs & basically said they couldn't do anything. And the store cut my mom's hours.
So yeah! Be an advocate! Maybe they can't legally dock your pay. Or fire you at will (which they definitely can in the USA for most part time positions). But they sure can cut your hours for "creating problems" so...have fun with the little revolution that will only cause more symptoms of a broken system without doing anything to hurt the system. 🤷

Do you know what I hate??
When I was growing up any time my brother upset/hurt/was rude to or downright nasty to me I was told “he’s just doing it to get a rise out of you” “he’s just doing it to annoy you”
Like??? I know?? I know he’s being mean to upset me. I know he’s saying horrible stuff to annoy me. And guess what?? I’m annoyed!!!!
I was literally told not to be upset, because his intentions were to upset me????
How is that not upsetting? Especially to a young girl??

Normalize bare faces in ALL settings. Makeup should not be a requirement for beauty, professionalism or hygiene. Normalize the idea that if applying makeup isn’t enjoyable there’s no reason to be wearing it. Then destroy the elitism within makeup culture and destroy the idea that makeup as a hobby requires spending a lot of money.

Instead of unhelpful advice like “Boycott Shell corporation” in regards to this situation in Brunei, why not give your money to Rainbow Railroad? An organization dedicated to helping LGBT people escape state sponsored violence. I’m sorry guys but you aren’t going to have literally any effect if you boycott a mutli-billion dollar oil corporation. I shouldn’t even need to say that, it’s so easy.
