growing faint and delirious after third attempt at translating "Kindheit" by Rilke in Italian. No language makes sense anymore, I can't stomach even looking at the screen.

Gregorio Fernández - detail from the Crucifixion with the Two Thieves (1616)
One of the crucified thieves in Fernández’s 1616 crucifixion is widely considered to be a portrait of Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas, 1st Duke of Lerma and prime minister of Spain under Philip III. Lerma’s tenure was marked by financial mismanagement and accusations of embezzlement and corruption; after his fall from power, he barely avoided execution by becoming a cardinal and obtaining ecclesiastical immunity. Popular wisdom in Valladolid attributes this as the reason why Fernández decided to portray the biblical thief Dismas with the features of the “greatest thief in Spain”. [Para no morir ahorcado, el mayor ladrón de España se vistió de colorado”]
However, the choice of the faithful Dismas instead of the unrepentant Gestas as Lerma’s avatar could instead point towards a devotional homage in the style of the ‘divine portrait’ — an appropriate performance of piety in the Spanish Baroque. This representation of Lerma as a saint would then be an act of gratitude towards his patron, as it was Lerma who first sponsored Fernández and facilitated his breakthrough at court.

over the graveyard
digital illustration and collage / february 2025.
this year's valentine's-card for my dear @sepulkralkreatur pays homage to an incident, in which we got locked in the local cemetery after forgetting the time at one of our dates. my partner remained rather calm, while i panicked at the thought of getting in possible trouble.
after calling the police to avoid the picture of us as incompetent burglars - they guided us over a wall. i wish next time this happens, we can float over the fence like marc chagall's luftmenschen (over the town / 1918), instead of embarrassingly sliding down into bushes, almost ripping pants and skirt.
happy valentinstag & much love / ~jerre

La settimana santa di sanremo serve a stanare gli italiani su tumblr, che durante l'anno scrivono post in inglese, poi improvvisamente user come autistic-cat, moonlight-sinner e kinky-furry-bastard postano la loro opinione su Carlo Conti
