Frogs
Frogs are cute frogs can fit in your boot if I were a frog I would jump on other frogs and make a frog tower! If you were a frog what would you do? Frogs are slippery frogs can climb up trees but do frogs eat bees? If I were a frog I would lick other frogs with my really long tongue if I were a frog I would jump really high but if I were a frog I couldn’t make a pie.

Junior Exploratory Fiction
Main Story
Once upon a time, there was a far-away island with 10 million unicorns. Many dangers lurked on the island, but there was also a helpful dragon named Jeff who protected them. Jeff was the protector of the island and the surrounding cotton candy ocean. The dragon’s sidekick was a four-foot tall squirrel named Mr. Chievous.
One day, a unicorn named Rainbow went for a walk and found a chipmunk named Burrito. He was a very talkative chipmunk.  “What’s your name? Where are you walking to? What’s your favorite food? I love tacos!”
Burrito would not stop talking, when all of a sudden, Scar the wolf appeared. Scar was extremely hungry and wanted to eat Rainbow. The wolf was covered in scars, his teeth were as sharp as shark teeth, and his breath smelled like dead fish. Scar then shrieked, “You’ll never be seen again!” He darted towards Rainbow.
Thankfully, Jeff the dragon was flying overhead when he spotted Scar, Rainbow, and Burrito. Just as Scar went to attack Rainbow and Burrito, Jeff swooped in and began throwing cupcakes at Scar. Burrito also used his karate skills to fight Scar until the wolf fled. Jeff then quickly flew away.  Rainbow was so grateful for the help that he invited Burrito to meet the other unicorns.
All of the unicorns were excited to meet Burrito. Their names were Annabelle, Aubrey, Audrey, Alexa, Marino, Fluffernutter Sandwich, Sprinkles, Peanut Butter Coconut, Hotdog, Banana, Tobias, Pigman, and a unikitty named Maisie.  They had a big celebration.
The unicorns tried to keep the island a secret, but that same day, an eight-year-old girl named Kate discovered it. Kate was searching for her cat Avery, who had run away.  Kate found Avery in the clearing where the unicorns were gathered and scooped him up in her arms.
Suddenly, Burrito ran up to her, startling her. He began talking to her non-stop and Kate screamed.  She had never seen a talking animal before. As she ran away from Burrito, she accidentally bumped into Rainbow. Avery jumped from Kate’s arms and ran into the cotton-candy water.
Having heard about the party, Jeff the dragon swooped in to join the fun. His landing caused a huge wave of cotton candy to wash over Kate and himself.  He was still a young dragon, so his landings were sometimes sloppy.  The sticky wave trapped Jeff’s wings. Jeff then signaled for the unicorns to come and rescue him and Kate, but the girl was nowhere to be found.
She had swum below the cotton candy water in search of Avery and had accidentally stumbled upon Scar’s secret lair. “I’ve been waiting for you” whispered Scar. Scar knew Kate was on the island because he had a spy – the dragon’s four-foot-tall squirrel sidekick, Mr. Chievous. At that moment, Mr. Chievous arrived, exclaiming “We’ve been waiting for you!”
Meanwhile, Avery the cat was trying to find his way back to Kate. Avery swam through the cotton candy and found Kate in the lair, and then went to alert the unicorns of what he had seen. “Kate’s trapped in a mysterious undersea cave!” shouts Avery. The unicorns alert Jeff and put together a rescue mission for Kate.
Jeff used his force field to get the unicorns through the cotton candy sea to Scar’s lair. Once they got there though, they were trapped in nets by Scar. Jeff the dragon saw Mr. Chievous and was angry to see that his sidekick had betrayed him. “How dare you do this to me!” shouted Jeff.
Meanwhile, Burrito was still aboveground, wondering where his friends had gone. But he quickly got distracted by the sea. “Ooooh, cotton candy” said Burrito. He started eating the cotton candy and soon he discovered Scar’s lair for himself.  Scar had sealed the entrance with gooey, black licorice, so Burrito slowly ate his way into the lair, despite his hatred of licorice.
He saw all of his friends trapped in nets, but Scar was nowhere to be seen. He used his karate skills to chop up the nets. “What happened to you guys?” asked Burrito. “Where’d that girl go? How’d she get to the island?” Burrito rambled on. Suddenly, they all heard a growl and Burrito stopped talking and scurried to hid in the shadows.

Exploratory Fiction: Happy Ending
Kate’s Story/Ending 2: Scar is Good
Kate was an 8-year-old girl. Kate was rowing her boat when she noticed the blue water was turning to pink. Suddenly, a big wave capsized her boat. She washed up on a foreign island. Avery ran away from Kate and Kate frantically ran after him, hoping she was okay and that she would find her soon.
All of a sudden, a chipmunk ran up to her and stared her in the eyeballs and started blabbering nonsense. She screamed at the talking chipmunk. She continued running and bumped into unicorns. She screamed again, dodging the unicorn but somehow falling into the cotton candy ocean. At first she was scared, but then she realized it was cotton candy and ate her way through.
Kate swam up to a deserted island. She saw only an outhouse on it and realized she needed to go to the bathroom, but discovered the outhouse was really an elevator. She rode the elevator down and discovered she was in a lair.
A wolf crawled out and said “I’ve been waiting for you!” He turned on a light and Kate saw four wolves sitting at a table having tea. Scar happily said “This is my beautiful wife, Scratch. These are my twin boys who are about your age, Scab and Pain. And this is my cute little baby girl, Jaws.” Kate joined them for tea and realized they were a lovely family. Kate wondered why such a lovely family was hiding in a lair, so she asked Scar why they were there. Scar sighs and says “The unicorns . . .” Kate asks “What bad things could unicorns do?” “Everything!” exclaimed Scar. “They’ve got magical powers! They could kill us all!” Kate was still confused. “But you’re wolves! How could they hurt you?” Scar and Scratch looked at each other.
Scratch begins telling a story. “Before Jaws was born, Pain and Scab were playing on this island. Unicorns spotted them playing on a beach and pushed them into the water. But Pain and Scab couldn’t swim. They almost drowned before Scar came to rescue them.” Kate was speechless.
After tea, Kate went to take a nap in a rope hammock. She woke up to her cat Avery meowing at her. She tried to get up, but she was pretty sleepy and struggled to find her way out of the hammock. Avery thought the wolves had tied her up and ran to tell the unicorns.
When the unicorns arrived, the wolves began to howl because they thought they’d broken into their house. The unicorns then growled “what did you do to that girl?” Scar explained “nothing!” The unicorns then spotted Scar’s kids. Scar, scared the unicorns would hurt his kids, launched his nets to trap them and stop them attacking. Mr. Chievous, the grandpa, then enters the lair. The dragon gets mad, thinking he had double-crossed him. Burrito then arrives, releasing the unicorns and going to attack Scar.
Kate walks into the room and screams “STOP!”. Everyone stares at her. Kate angrily says, “unicorns, you’re the bad guys, not Scar!” Kate explains the story and the unicorns realize they’ve been mean and need to apologize. Everyone makes up and Scar invites them all to dinner. Kate, sitting alone, is happy she’s helped everyone when her cat walked out.

Exploratory Fiction: Evil Ending
Kate’s Story/Ending I: Scar is Evil
Kate is an 8-year-old girl from Maine. She likes reptiles and cats. One day, Kate and her cat Avery were out rowing in their tiny boat in search of an island to look for salamanders. Suddenly, a huge wave washed Kate’s boat ashore on a mysterious island. Kate looked around and noticed the water had suddenly become cotton candy.
Avery ran off into the woods and Kate chased after her beloved cat. She looked around and saw eyes staring at her from the trees. Suddenly she was confronted by a tiny chipmunk. “Are you a unicorn? You don’t look like a unicorn. Do you live here? I’m Burrito the chipmunk, by the way” he exclaimed. Kate shrieked in horror – she’d never seen a talking chipmunk before. She ran away as fast as she could.
Suddenly, she saw Avery and scooped him up. Avery was terrified and jumped out of Kate’s arms and ran into the cotton candy sea. Kate was confused. Then she saw a 4-foot-tall squirrel staring right at her. She ran away into the cotton candy sea after Avery, but the squirrel chased her into a dark cave.
She saw two eyes in the dark and a huge wolf suddenly jumped out at her. Kate was so afraid that she was speechless. “I’ve been waiting for you” said the wolf. The huge squirrel appeared behind him and said, “we’ve been waiting for you”. The wolf dragged Kate deeper into his lair and sealed the outside of his lair with black licorice and locked Kate in a cage.
She whistled between the bars of her cage to get Avery’s attention, because they’d made up a secret tune to whistle if either of them ever got into trouble. Avery was swimming through the cotton candy sea and as soon as he heard Kate’s whistle, he followed the sound down to Scar’s licorice lair.  Someone had already eaten through the entrance. Luckily, he was able to fit through the bars on Kate’s window, and he was a black cat, so Scar didn’t see him sneaking around the licorice lair looking for the key.
Avery brought the key to Kate through the bars. Meanwhile, Scar had eaten so much licorice and candy that day that he fell fast asleep, and Kate was able to unlock the cage and escape. She ran past Mr. Chievous and climbed into her rowboat with Avery.
When Mr. Chievous followed her, she bumped him on the head with an oar and he fell back into the cotton candy sea. He was such a huge squirrel that when he fell into the water, he made a huge splash that propelled Kate back to where the water was blue. She saw a different island up ahead and decided she’d stop there to continue her search for salamanders.
