blame my scatter brain
I realise the work in my blog isn’t ordered correctly, but I hope my captions explain it enough. I could not for the life of me figure how to reshuffle it once I uploaded without pulling my hair out.
it is what it is.. I tried my best.

I was thinking about my elevations... when I modelled some of the placements of the windows weren't correct. I wanted to create almost an ephemeral feel to the light in the centre ceremonial space.. the same quality of dappled light in some sacred places. here I just mirrored my plan to understand it better. adding the elevation to context, I think I need to make the chimney height align with the neighbouring building and also show some textures of stone and brick and how that relates to the existing ? shadows aren’t expressed successfully here.

thinking about bathrooms..

sections in progress.. The walls for my short transverse section too thick? For some reason it is cutting through some my stone columns. I think though I like this section and it is very successful, but doesn’t show much besides kitchen and double height dining space. So I chose my main 1:50 to be the the longitudinal section.

also an earlier plan.. here I had the elevator to the left.. and the bathrooms to the left.. this didn’t work as the bathroom was facing the muslim qibla which isn’t allowed. it can’t be facing it or turning its back.. so limited options to have bathrooms.. here I also added some water... it made more sense to keep the wet areas together. so I switched the bathroom to be where the “blue” line water is..

transverse sketch old sketch.. roof was a bit crazy. like the idea of the slanted roof, could make space for solar panels ? As well shows that all parts connect to 1 point ? “We are all one” Little sketches on the right show how the roof structure could be? Varying different rafter heights?

this was also an earlier plan.. I didn’t like the front part as it felt awkward.. decided to keep the entrance on the existing outer wall... but had it all pivot (as seen in other plans) to have some indoor outdoor space.. similar to lots of religious buildings, a foyer traditionary space.. as well as providing ventilation

long section sketch.. I liked the idea of chimney protruding becoming almost like a minaret... also shows how we all are one and the same. bridging differences into the Centre where people find commonality.

this were my first plans. orientation was wrong for the mosque. and stairs was awkward with the circular part for the ceremonial bakery.. lots of wasted space... took up nearly the whole site. I liked the idea of having a circular space for people to gather, similar to old courtyards in traditional mosques, but these gathering or community spaces are there in almost all religious buildings and In my opinion, much more important than the ritualistic spaces. The bathrooms here on the ground floor are facing the wrong direction, as it’s disrespectful for a lot of religions for it to be facing the orientation of prayer and for Muslims (forbidden). After my review, it seemed to be that foyer lobby space was way too big and contains too much dead space. Dining room and other areas feel less connected and more separate entities. I wanted to make the communal part the centre and the focus.. and to have the ground floor seem connected? Maybe through doors, windows, curtains that can be closed or opened if privacy is needed? The spaces I needed are wet spaces (for cleansing), the communal area, gathering area and dining space and kitchen.. most spaces can be interchangeable depending on what is needed

Second floor progress. trying to understand the spaces and storage in the building? shelves wrapping around columns was my first idea then moved onto to rolling shelves to have multipurpose. I decided to get rid of the bathroom on the left as it felt unnecessary as most prayers will be very quick and the majority of time will be spent downstairs, so kept communal spaces downstairs. The elevator also took a lot of space here, I decided to push it forward in later iterations.

Ground floor progress. instead of a solid wall, as I was told it was wasted space to use all stone. I hollowed it out and now thinking of either having additional storage space for the dining room or maybe communal area? As well as having space for the organ in above floors. It seems fitting, as you would hear the music in different areas of the building. The entrance pushed to the front is much more suitable and makes more space.
