See to me it looks like a baby stage. And in each movie both hiccup and toothless (as well as the others) go through their growth spurts. I mean valka legit says that hiccup and toothless are the same age. So it would make sense that his design would evolve into more broader larger head and eyes. The entire movie series is about the friendship of two species and their growing up together.

I'm still salty about them changing his design after the first movie.

Sleeping King

The first time that Adam learned about the legend of the Sleeping King, he was in high school on a class field trip to the museum. Lucifer Morningstar had been a King thousands of years ago with his village and temple deep within the Pride Rainforest in one of the most dangerous places in the world.

There was only a picture of the temple plus a brick that one brave soul was lucky enough to retrieve.

Legend says that the King died of a broken heart when his love and Queen was forcibly taken from him. But before he died he placed a curse on the land and his temple, as well as himself as to not be disturbed.

Should his true love make it back to him one day, only he may enter the land, their home, and personal chambers unscathed. Anyone else will fight for their lives to leave.

Once his love is in their chambers, they will find the King in his eternal sleep where they must light the candles on the bed posts to reignite the flame of their love and a kiss will wake the King.

Adam had been enthralled ever since, so when he got to University he studied to be an archaeologist.

In the hopes of one day being able to find that temple and the Sleeping King.

Adam rolled his eyes as he ate his lunch with his coworker and best friend Lute, who thought he was crazy for wanting to take a 16 hour plane ride to a dangerous area in the world.

And maybe he was.

Adam: No, I'm curious. Aren't you?

Lute: Well yeah, but Adam there's a reason no one goes there. That curse is very much real. Back when the village people were alive they would defend the temple and kill anyone who came there. Now? You go into that temple you'll die. No one's come back.

Adam: But I need to know if he's in there.

Lute: Why? He's three thousand years old he's probably nothing but bones if that.

Adam: But at least I'd know.

Lute sighed: You're not letting this go are you?

Adam smiled: Nope.

Lute: Fine..... But I'm going with you and if I die I'm haunting your ass.

—Lucifer headcannon—

I headcannon that Lucifer created the platypus because he just seems like the type of guy and who else and heaven would make such a strange an unusual creature?

Angel Lucifer: Yeah!!! Thank you!! Oh and did I mention they have neurotoxins that are extremely painful and resistant to conventional painkillers like morphine? The pain has also been reported to last up to 3 months. Not sure what any of that means as morphine hasn’t been invented yet and I’ve never felt pain but I’m sure humans will love them.
