obsessed with the la clan. nerds who are too smart for their own good. would rather not involve themselves in politics but gets involved to get what they want. became too important in their jobs and can't quit. hyperfixations that last a lifetime. loyalty that can be bought by dangling their current want in front of them. any information that isn't about what they're interested in enters one ear and out the next and out the window. the most cockroach clan in the country.

So I spoiled myself on the ending of The Prisoner of Beauty and ... uhhmmm no thanks. Spoilers below.

Dude they killed Da Qiao??? And Wei Liang??? The Qiao Uncle was a baddie and not the good kind??? WTFFFF

Like I was really starting to not care about the show because I realized my main issue was that building a Canal was not enough stakes for me. War, battles, blood yaaaassss give it to me. Diplomatic meetings on why water is important... like it's fine for a bit but 20 episodes on that was just uugggghhhh.

But around episode 26/27 I was starting to get invested again BECAUSE I thought oh okay we're getting back on track, we are getting the warlord Liu Yuning that was promised and I was excited to get to binge the last 8 episodes. But there are few things I hate more than kill the cutie for shock value. I CANNOT fathom what narrative merit killing Da Qiao had. And it's not like I cared about the uncle, but Xiao Qiao's whole thing was protecting the Qiao Clan. All just to end of with fragments of her family??? Just ... no.

On the positive side: I like Song Zuer as a leading lady now, but I hope she does not go for cutesy visuals in the future. And I already liked the actor for the cousin because of his role in Joy of Life, but now I am a super fan!!! Tormented playboys are my soft spot.

I'm catching up on The Prisoner of Beauty and I'm having a little trouble connecting with it which is so strange for me. In theory, it has everything I could want in a drama, but it has yet to cross that line from "it's really nice" to "I am in luuuuvvvv".

But one thing I do really really like about it is the OUR family, OUR kids, OUR parents vibes from the Qiao's. Which is so typical of the period but also something I don't really think we see a lot of because of the usual vying for power in the clan storylines. A mostly functional family and a mostly functional EXTENDED family? We love to see it!

I am a 10000% sure that killing the Qiao grandfather was for 5% plot reasons and 95% for making an excuse as to why the characters won't fuck for the entire show.

After 5 episodes, I think my opinion has changed somewhat. The character is really good and I guess the pouting works when we want to be reminded that she's still pretty innocent despite being clever and sharp.

I'm still not completely sold, but it really helps that she has, as Mr. Darcy says, fine eyes. Gives deer in headlight and cunning glances equally well.

Finished Perfect Match. The first episode was a bit hmmmm but it really traps you and I loved all of the couples and their different love stories.

I do think the ending was slightly rushed and I definitely felt a few scenes were missing, but I'm overall very satisfied with all of these warm and fluffy feelings.

Madame Li is such a BOSS!!! Mrs. Bennet eat your heart out.

Continuing my C-Drama kick with a newly finished Destined with Song Yi and Bai Jing Ting.

I watched it when it was airing but never got around to finishing the last 10 episodes. After finally finishing it all I can say is I understand past me's decisions.

Also Daddy General Zhou is a DILF. Managed to out-sexy everyone without even trying.

Finished Joy of Life 2!!!

What a wild ride ... They really need to start filming Season 3 this year!

Overall, I think I like Season 1 just a little bit better, but Season 2 has some of my favorite moments for the supporting characters. I have so many thoughts about the series as whole and my hopes for the future which I may or may not share ...

Anyway 10/10, would recommend 👍Go and watch it.
