you grow tomatoes yeah? can I ask for some advice? a few of mine are cracking along the top and I'm not sure what's up. I've never grown any before so if this is normal I'm v confused about the tomatoes I see in grocery stores. like, can I still eat 'em or should I compost them? or just cut off the tops and use the other part? there's no holes or anything as far as I can tell if that helps

(plz ignore the mess in background, I'm resituating some things so it's all a mess)
This is called "Cracking" and it's caused by rapid changes in soil moisture, AKA "pot dried the fuck out in the heat wave". They're still edible- pick them right now, put them in a tupperware on the counter with a Banana to finish ripening. Leaving them on the vine increases the chance bugs will get in the cracks and make them rot. Once ripened, cut around the cracked bits and eat as normal!
If you're early in tomato season, water deeply and regularly to prevent cracking, and consider a mid-season calcium supplement if you've had problems with Blossom End Rot before.

tumblr tuesday: under the sea
Hello, hi! In honor of World Reef Day, we invite you to take a rest from all the rainbows and feast your peepers on these weird smiley water creatures.
Behold the blubber-evidenced chub of the plesiosaur. Yes, ma’am! @alphynix posts paleontology art, feathers dinosaurs, and curates scientific curiosities:
A sea slug detaches its head from its body (Spoiler! Nobody dies!). Turn to @todropscience for all your marine science and biology needs:
Swim with him! @jellygummies is full of the bouncy, candy-coated uncanny:
Visit @donutdrawsthings for artistic renderings of other things that may or may not dance and dwell in the wet:
And here are some sounds to soothe your submarine musings. Happy Tuesday, Tumblr.

The Auramic Empire was once a band of esteemed alchemists and artificers. Lead to gold, stone to gold, flesh… They found themselves richer by the day, and with fame a comes enemies. All that stands of their vast cities is now nothing but rubble and grass. Some say, deep in those ruins and hidden behind vine and shadow, that some magic still lives. Artifacts containing dark powers and enchanting allure. Many have gone mad entombed by those old bricks, searching for old ghosts. Many never came back out. They’re only rumours, right?
