Zhang Xiaodan and Shanzidou

The two main characters from the novel of Secrets Under Winter’s Snow that I had the amazing opportunity to work on together with the writers and some fellow artists.

This is an amazing indie project that is inspired by danmei novels and chinese dramas, it is an LGBTQ+ story about the love between two men

Synopsis of the story

In ancient times past, the Emperor is dead, his two sons both fighting for the throne. During this war of succession, Zhang Xiaodan—the obedient son of sect leader Zhang Gao, the tyrant General of the boy Emperor—serves as a soldier in his father's army. Zhang Xiaodan investigates rumors of a hideout where traitors and deserters have been hiding in the mountains. Heading out just before the fall of winter's first snow, Zhang Xiaodan becomes injured in his search. The dangers of the mountain and with winter's first snow already falling over the mountain's face, Zhang Xiaodan is forced to take shelter in the village of traitors. And all these traitors answer to one man.

Shanzidou, a drunk, lazy, and arrogant man sits in the seat of power in this mountain village. Despite his desire to always have a full cup of wine, Shanzidou is a cultivator of great skill. Outsiders rumor this cultivator to be a demon, but those in the village only see him as their savior. Will sheltering in the mountains give the soldier enough time and distance from the war to discover secrets about himself and his most gracious host? Or will the war catch up with Zhang Xiaodan before he can discover what it means to truly fight for what is right?

But being into danmei has given me so much inspiration to create an original character again, it took me ages to complete these drawings even tho I created the character already a while ago and after that, while reading tgcf, realised he also looks like blackwater which is a coincidence. So meet Xiao He, he’s still lonely, I’m trying to find time to create his lover but I’m so swamped with con preparations.
