hiatus notice!

that’s right! it’s time for becker’s “oh shit i’m really doing this!” blog-wide hiatus ( july 17th - september 18thish ). as some of you may know, i started school for veterinary assisting in january of this year and it’s finally time for me to put what i’ve been learning these past few months to practice. since i know i already struggle to focuse on more than one thing at a time, in order to give myself the best chance of success, i’ve decided to put all of my blogs on pause until my externship is over. while i likely will pop up every now and again to shoot the shit, my time on tumblr will be substantially limited and replies will be put on hold. i thank you for your patience and i look forward to writing with you all again soon!

like obviously the cure isn’t permanent and his powers DO come back at some point in the not so distant future but? the initial panic and abject terror when he realizes he can’t feel the flame, can’t touch it without being burned, can’t shape it to his will or even feel its spark…… the crashout is absolutely monumental but at the very least, it does lead him to confront a lot of his inner insecurities as he figures out how to rebuild his entire identity. maybe that’s how he gets depilled from all the bullshit magneto filled his head with 👀 and maybe…. maybe him being depowered is part of why he isn’t immediately hunted down by the x-men. he’s not a threat. he’s not anything. he’s just a private school dropout going from one shitty minimum wage job to the next, just trying to keep a roof over his head and (eventually) put himself through school (because what tf else does he have going for him now?).

i just thought of the best au idea but you gotta promise not to get mad……

so you know how in x3, after he gets knocked unconscious, john isn’t seen again and it’s only word of god (aka the novelization) that tells us he survived — bobby dragged him off the island and saved him from the phoenix. blah blah blah we get it. HOWEVER…… what if, at some point between getting knocked out and being rescued by bobby, john was hit by one of the cure guns.

no thanks, he wants to say, i don’t do that boo-hoo therapy shit. don’t take it personally, but the thought dies before it ever reaches his teeth. not that it really matters when she's likely to have heard it regardless... and therein lies the issue— @gravityslingshot makes him uneasy. or rather, not her, specifically, but what she can do. he knows she could figure him out if she really wanted to. if she didn’t take no as an answer, she could crack open his mind like a good book, root around and get lost in a labyrinth of his fears and insecurities, in his rage and shame. things that he’d rather die than admit to. there are no secrets from people like her and the professor, and it makes his skin crawl. privacy is a lie at this school. the fact that someone else could be an audience to his inner thoughts makes his frown line deepen and he shakes his head, both in acknowledgement to her question and to dislodge any lingering telepaths from his mind.
