she's so cute- that's what lily finds herself thinking as the girl practically drops into a curtsy when lily shakes her hand. very cute, even if she'd already gathered the girl was european. it's very formal, or maybe theatrical, but her read is more the former than the latter. nina doesn't seem ... dramatic. she's not putting on a show. not like lily does.    ❝    great! i'm glad. i can't imagine wanting to come here since i've always had plans to leave and go to the city, but... you know what, apparently ricky rather likes it here, so- it's good that you do too. speaking of- ricky, you should really go say hi to red. he keeps looking over here like a lost puppy.    ❞    a glance towards the red-headed boy seems to indicate as much is true. and maybe lily does want a chance to actually talk to this girl. ricky clearly's not going to excuse himself without confirming with nini that she's okay though. at the girl's response she hums.    ❝    sure, maybe it's just a familiar face. i'm sure i'll figure it out. you're very pretty though. i love your dress    ❞    the compliment is genuine, as lily examines the brunette.    ❝    so what are you studying? maybe people say that's a boring question, but i don't think so.    ❞    it says a lot about someone.

❝     yup,     ❞     she     beams,     glancing     up     at     ricky,     eyes     full     of     stars     as     she     looks     at     him.     ❝     that's     me;     ricky's     new     girlfriend.     ❞     it     was     nice     getting     to     know     all     of     ricky's     friends,     even     if     she     was     a     little     intimidated     to     meet     the     girl     who     had     been     his     first     love.     so     many     of     his     firsts.     she     reaches     out     to     shake     lily's     hand,     that     instinctual     princess     curtsy     forcing     itself     out     of     her     as     she     falls     back     into     her     upbringing     for     a     moment.     a     little     hard     while     she's     glued     to     ricky's     side,     but     it     works     well     enough.     ❝     utah     has     treated     me     nicely     so     far.     ❞     she     smiles,     but     she     doesn't     touch     the     topic     of     lily's     stepmom.     she     sounds     like     it's     not     something     she's     totally     interested     in     talking     about,     and     nini     doesn't     want     to     press     the     issue     if     it's     a     sensitive     subject.     ricky     hadn't     gone     into     any     detail,     not     that     nini     would     have     asked     him     to.     ❝     oh,     um...     no,     i     haven't     been     to     new     york     at     all.     maybe     i     just     have     one     of     those     faces?     ❞     she     suggests,     accent     thickening     with     nerves     as     she     takes     in     a     deep     breath     and     smiles     as     best     she     can.     she     had     gotten     so     used     to     people     not     recognizing     her,     she     never     would     have     expected     ricky's     ex     to     be     the     one     to     find     her     familiar.

lily had hardly expected to be at this little get together. some of these people don't like her very much and she knows that too, but... her stepmom had coaxed her home for the holiday season with the promise of 'exciting news' and needing to spend time with her family. she's trying to avoid her mom at all costs more or less though, and for better or worse, this little invitation had come, and she couldn't say no. ex or not... she thinks it'll be good to see ricky. and some of the others, but- she's curious to see what's become of him. soon enough, she's approached by him and the dark haired girl clinging tight to him.    ❝    nini, right! you must be ricky's new girlfriend. it's so nice to meet you too!    ❞    she holds her hand out to shake the brunette's, offering her a bright smile, for lack of better prepared response.    ❝    welcome to utah i guess. i still can't believe my stepmom convinced me to come home for the holidays.    ❞    it's obvious nini's shy, timid, but... she's being friendly at least. lily can't be cold to her. there is something a bit familiar about the face, but... she can't place it.    ❝    this is totally random, but- i feel like i've seen you before. were you in new york over the summer at all?    ❞    but maybe she'll figure it out later.

the     holidays     had     always     been     nini's     favorite     time     of     year.     spending     them     without     her     family     this     year     was     going     to     be     hard.     she     missed     her     moms     and     her     lola     more     than     anything.     having     ricky     made     her     feel     so     much     better,     but     she     was     still     a     little     sad.     tonight,     though,     was     going     to     be     a     good     night.     thanksgiving     was     in     a     few     days     and     all     of     ricky's     friends     were     getting     together     at     slices     for     a     friendsgiving     of     sorts.     even     her     new     friend     kourtney     was     going     to     be     there;     they'd     gone     to     high     school     together     and     knew     some     of     the     same     people.     what     nini     hadn't     been     expecting,     though,     was     ricky's     ex-girlfriend     being     back     in     town     and     coming     to     the     little     celebration,     too.     she     knew     the     bare     minimum     —     lily     had     family     problems     and     would     want     to     spend     as     much     time     away     from     her     family     as     possible.     it     was     daunting     as     she     walked     into     slices,     holding     tight     to     ricky's     hand,     to     know     his     ex     was     here,     too.     still,     she     was     all     smiles     as     they     made     the     rounds,     eventually     working     their     way     toward     the     blonde.     ❝     hi...     you     must     be     lily.     it's     really     nice     to     meet     you.     i'm     nini.     ❞     she'd     rehearsed     over     and     over     in     her     head     exactly     how     she     was     going     to     introduce     herself     to     lily     and     though     the     right     words     came     out,     they     sounded     much     more     timid     than     she'd     hoped.     still,     she     gives     the     girl     a     soft     smile     and     tightens     her     grip     on     ricky's     hand,     seeking     out     that     extra     comfort.

gosh... now he's crying... she hates that. she really does. girl who was taught to keep her negative feelings to herself except to perform is perhaps only prepared to comfort because of how much she wishes she'd have been growing up. so she holds him tight, reaching her hand up to brush a tear from his cheek before her fingertips reach up into his curls.    ❝    you can't overwhelm me. and i'm not going to leave you. that i can promise. i know it's hard. i do. and i know you've been through a lot, ricky, but... i'm not going to hurt you.    ❞    and when the show's over... she's going to figure out the best way to keep this going. because she really doesn't want to be separated from him. not when they've found each other like this.    ❝    i love you too, ricky bowen. i really do. and i don't think there's anyone who deserves it more.    ❞
