i do not understand when people get upset about characters in extreme circumstances making extreme decisions

I don't get wanting all characters to be well-rounded and emotionally mature from the beginning of the narrative

a person you'd want to be or want to be friends with is not necessarily going to make for a good fictional character

If I'm watching/reading something with extreme dramatic elements, then i don't want all my characters well-adjusted, I want them to be interesting! I want them to be bizarre and even unlikable sometimes. If I wanted to experience mildly interesting personalities and generally good decisions, I'd just...meet regular people.

it's perfectly fine to want comforting narratives and to be offput by obnoxious characters -- but there's really people out here watching characters go through unimaginable trauma and then complaining that they're not being pleasant or rational enough

Something I would have LOVED to see between Toothless and the Light Fury would have been the Light Fury understanding that Toothless can't fly on his own, and her adapting to her mate's needs instead of the other way around. Why does Toothless have to "fix" his disability with the perfect prosthetic trope when we can have a plot where the Light Fury is so in love that she's willing to change her ways for him? Being willing to fly less high among the clouds and hunt for food in new, ingenious ways on the ground would have been beautiful and, in my opinion, a good way to strengthen their relationship.

I just saw someone say "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" as an argument for boycotting AO3

Babe AO3 is a nonprofit. They do not exist under the ethics of capitalism. Fanfiction is legal because no money is ever exchanged around it. (All the money given to AO3 is used to maintain their servers and pay their lawyers to help keep fanfiction legal.)

Fanfiction is one of the few things in this world - probably the one singular form of entertainment that does not exist within the confines of capitalism. So by your own logic, even if you hate some of the content on AO3, it's inherently the only ethical thing to consume in the whole world.
