"The Unpopular Path."
My student journey hasn't been easy. Life threw me unexpected challenges, but I persevered, fueled by the love of my family and a desire for a better future.
The pandemic began during my first year at Visayas State University (VSU), where I was studying BS Computer Science – a course chosen for me by my uncle. He believed it was the perfect career path, but I felt uncertain. I wasn't sure it was right for me, and I just tried to keep up. However, his influence created immense pressure. Holding a prominent position at VSU, he frequently checked my academic progress, leaving me feeling constantly monitored. The weight of his expectations, coupled with the stress of online learning during the pandemic, took a toll.
My academic struggles combined with family issues led to a significant health decline. I became severely ill and depressed. A private doctor recommended a year-long break from my studies. I'm grateful to my supportive academic advisor who helped me navigate this difficult process and secure a leave of absence.
After a year, in-person classes resumed. While my health had improved, I still wasn't fully recovered. Then, another obstacle arose: VSU mandated complete COVID-19 vaccination for all students. The day before classes were to begin, I was still unvaccinated and unenrolled. Tears welled up as I called my mother, desperate to find a way to attend. She urged me to come home, and we discussed the situation. My parents ultimately decided against immediate vaccination due to my fragile health. However, my cousin shared that her school wasn't strictly enforcing the vaccination requirement, giving me a glimmer of hope.
This led me to transfer to STI College Ormoc, where I enrolled in BS Tourism Management – a field I'd always secretly dreamt of. As a shy, young woman, I never envisioned myself in such a high-profile career. But God had other plans. Tourism Management allowed me to explore my interests and grow in ways I never thought possible. The transition wasn't easy. Adapting to a new environment and making new friends took time and effort. Yet, I embraced the change, eager to develop my personality and build meaningful connections.
College at STI College Ormoc was expensive. Tuition, bus fare, and food were a big strain on my family. Things got even tougher as exams came closer, and I still owed money. But then, I got a scholarship! That, along with my father hard work, let me keep going to school. I don't know what I would have done without it.
My whole college experience has been full of surprises. I learned to handle tough situations and trust that things will work out. I'm stronger, more flexible, and more confident now. I'm working hard and praying to graduate and reach my goals. This unusual path showed me how important it is to keep trying, have faith, and believe in myself, even when things are unclear.

A day of my life as a tourism student!
My morning routine isn't just about getting ready, it's about crafting the professional image I want to project. A quick, polished makeup application, a carefully chosen outfit these aren't just aesthetics, they're part of my training. The tourism industry demands presentation, and I'm practicing now. And also, polished appearance isn't just about looking good, it's about projecting professionalism and confidence qualities crucial for success in this people focused field. This isn't just about makeup, it's about cultivating a professional persona that will serve me well throughout my career.

A day of my life as a tourism student!
I prepare for the time at 8:00 am to wait for the bus from our area to travel to my school. I have a class at 10:00 am and I am not getting too late because of my early arrival from the City at 9:30 am or it depends if my transportation is fast in a minute only. Then I'm out of my class at 6:30 pm, I have a bus but sometimes it is already there last trip.
This kind of challenges me every routine and travel as a student is not easy but to survive and keep going in life to be successful.

A day of my life as a Tourism Student!
As a student we have to do our tasks and responsibility that are given to our instructors especially if we are always reporting to discuss our topic that are assigned from the groups. It is not easy but we are practicing with our communication skills and confidently in front. To study and note every topic they discuss with us. I always motivate these quotes every day "Hard work is never in vain without hard work and prayer always." So, that I will always fight and do my job as a good student and ready for the future.

A day of my life as a Tourism Student!
"Hard work and faith yield results" this motto fuels my journey as a tourism student. It hasn't been easy, but the support of my family, friends, and belief in a higher power keeps me going. I'm not immune to fear of failure, but I trust the process and learn from every challenge. My love for my family and faith in God's plan provide a positive mindset that helps me stay patient, hardworking, and resilient, even under pressure.
The Amadeus examination is crucial for our Tourism Management major. It's a significant investment of time and money, so passing is essential. The Amadeus airline system is notoriously tricky during assessments, especially when dealing with technical glitches or connection problems. Perfect attendance is also a must, and our mentor, Mrs. Lecille Belacho, is understandably strict she genuinely cares about our success and wants to see us all pass. I'm incredibly grateful for my classmates; our teamwork and mutual support were instrumental in achieving this milestone.
Passing the Amadeus exam, a testament to our collective hard work, prayers, and Mrs. Belacho's guidance, marks a significant achievement in my BS in Tourism Management program.

A day of my life as a Tourism Student!
DOT Seminar & Training
Our second year in Tourism Management (TM) brought an unexpected opportunity: assisting our senior classmates (third and fourth years) with a Department of Tourism (DOT) seminar at our school. Interestingly, the DOT staff also attended, making it a collaborative learning experience. Only five of us from the second year participated, which made it feel even more special. I'm incredibly grateful for the chance to attend; I learned so much from the discussions and presentations.
The seminar focused on the "Filipino Brand of Service Excellence" training a crucial aspect of our tourism industry. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain practical knowledge and prepare for my future career. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive sessions, quizzes, and the overall experience. I was honestly surprised at how much I learned and retained from the training.
I'm incredibly proud to have received a Certificate of Attendance, which I plan to use in future job applications. This training, combined with my hard work throughout the program, represents a significant milestone in my BS in Tourism Management journey.
