Get to know RSVProv!
We have not one, not two, but five funny femmes coming at you today! Check out improv team RSVProv! They’ll be at our show on March 23rd!
Who are your biggest comedy inspirations? We love Robin Williams, Lucille Ball, George Carlin, Key&Peele, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mitch Hedberg, Dave Chappell, Maya Rudolph, humans.
What made you do comedy?
Mary: Performing as Elbow in “Measure for Measure” and making the rest of the cast break character.
Emily L: Being an awkward kid knowing I’d never be best dressed.
Melissa: I’ve always loved pretending I was someone else, improv is my way of pretending as an adult.
Sarah D: People thought I was funny so I wanted to share the laughter.
Courtney: Looking around a realizing the world is full of funny shit, and realizing I laugh the hardest at myself.
Describe your comedy style in three words: Playful, Absurd, Bold.
When did you laugh really really hard and why? We are a group of women who see the humor in everyday life. When we are together the laughter is contagious and boisterous! We make each other belly laugh sometimes so hard it hurts. We are the lucky ones who do this on a regular basis!
Favorite Place or thing in NYC: Alice’s Tea Cup, people watching, dog-friendly bars and parks, Top of the Rock, Coney Island, wandering the city with no agenda.
LOL, what’s the deal with Babs’ cloned dog? So, like how much was it exactly? Because I have a dog who is pretty great and I have questions. There should be as many dogs as possible in the world.
Why are we here? Evolution gone horribly and randomly wrong. Who knows? No matter the reason, we are all here together which is why we all need to learn to get along and help each other. What are you watching/listening to/reading right now? All the things!

Get to Know Katie Jo!
Don’t go outside! It’s still cold and frigid! Stay inside and warm up with some fun facts about Katie Jo! Then go buy tickets to our next show on March 23rd at the PIT!
Who are your biggest comedy inspirations?  Maria Bamford, Tig Nataro, Jim Gaffigan, Tina Fey
What made you want to do comedy? I’ve been making people laugh my whole life, but what finally got me to start stand up was when I realized there would never be the “right moment” to start and that I would never feel “ready”. I just had to start.
Describe your comedy style in three words. Awkward, Smart, Nervous
When was the last time you laughed really hard and why? I was hanging out with another comic after a show and the edible she had eaten earlier had just kicked in so that on top of the fact that she’s already freakin’ hilarious, she had me peeing my pants.
Favorite place or thing to do in NYC? Getting a big ‘ol cookie from Levain Bakery and walking around Central Park on a nice day.
Lol what's the deal with Babs' cloned dog? Honestly, I would expect nothing less from that kooky talented genius.
Why are we here? To pet dogs and have sex, but not at the same time (unless you’re into that #doyou).
What are you watching/listening to/reading right now? I’ve been obsessed with “How I Built That” the NPR podcast about entrepreneurs. And I finally watched “Call Me By Your Name” so I’m going through my Timothée Chalamet phase.

Who are your biggest comedy inspirations? Honestly not sure, but here are some that I like: Chelsea Peretti, Larry David, Ellen, etc
What made you want to do comedy? I’ve always loved jokes/comedy, but I didn’t realize it was a thing you could do until my friend tried it in college and I gave it a shot as well, now I guess I’m addicted?
Describe your comedy style in three words. Uhhh quick, honest, dark? You tell me!
When was the last time you laughed really hard and why? Can’t remember, but probably something crass.
Favorite place or thing to do in NYC? The Stand.
Lol what's the deal with Babs' cloned dog? I have no idea, but I wish them the best.
Why are we here? No reason, really.
What are you watching/listening to/reading right now? Uhh, just watched Terms of Endearment last night- was real good.

Get to Know Victoria Hoffman!
She Makes Me Laugh’s next show is coming at you like a noreaster in March! We have a great line-up for our show on March 23rd at 8 PM at the PIT! Learn more about performer Victoria Hoffman!
Who are your biggest comedy inspirations? 100% Sarah Silverman from day one until the day I die. She's the best and I've watched all of her specials thousands of times each. Honorable mentions are Chelsea Peretti, Bill Burr and Daniel Tosh.
What made you want to do comedy? I would listen to stand-up on Pandora to get through the workday at this terrible internship I had right out of college and then saw a live show and just started doing mics a week later. I think I started on a whim and then just kept forgetting to quit.
Describe your comedy style in three words. Sarcastic, playful and female-y.
When was the last time you laughed really hard and why? I was going through old pictures of myself and found one so tragic that I can hardly find the words to describe how horrific I looked. I was about twelve and looked like a stereotypical middle-aged black church deacon who just creeped on kids. I was wearing this weird striped button-up (definitely from the Kohl's men section) and my hair was slicked back for inexplicable reasons.
Favorite place or thing to do in NYC? Go sit at seedy dive bars in East Village by myself or with one close friend and just down tequila in a corner and get into deep life talks (gossip about boys).
Lol what's the deal with Babs' cloned dog? I don't know much about Barbra Streisand but I did hear about how she cloned her dog. Twice, actually. I had a sleepover for my fourteenth birthday and my mom made us all watch Yentl for some reason and everyone was SO bored. That's the only thing I think of when Barbra comes to mind.
Why are we here? Why do any of us do anything ever? I think about that every time I leave the house. All I ever want to do is sit in my bed and stare at the wall.
What are you watching/listening to/reading right now? My sister got me hooked on My Favorite Murder Podcast with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark! It's these two comedians who discuss these insane murders and it's so good! The best part is that literally all the murderers are psychotic males with mommy and daddy issues who end up going batshit crazy. It's so entertaining and makes me suspicious of all my guy friends.

Get to Know Simone Norman!
Happy Saturday! Go outside for a walk in this absurdly nice weather! Then come back inside, buy tickets to our show this Thursday, and while you’re at it, check out performer Simone Norman!
1. Who are your biggest comedy inspirations?
Chelsea Peretti, Pamela Adlon, Andy Daly, Jenny Slate, Janeane Garofalo, Bill Murray, Jordan Peele, Keegan Michael Key
2. What made you want to follow the comedy path?
Women in the Brooklyn-bar-basement comedy scene. I had friends and friends-of-friends on Facebook who were constantly posting shows they were doing, every night of the week, sometimes even multiple shows per night. And they were a few years older than me and had their shit together, and each show they put on or got booked at led to more shows. I was so impressed and astounded that they were just crafting their own comedy careers and committing to the constant toil of show hopping and bit honing. I’ve been modeling my own shit
3. Describe your comedy style in three words.
Earnest, world-building, cerebral.
4. When was the last time you laughed really hard and why?
Emmy Blotnick’s “make a dick” bit at a show I saw recently. See it for yourself and you’ll do the same.
5. Favorite place or thing to do in NYC?
My favorite thing to do is visit the dog park near the Brooklyn bridge. It always has the BEST pooches!!! I’m a nanny and the girl I take care of has a dog, so I’m always pushing to go and stay way past when the both of them want to leave.
6. Preferred SPF?
Like 70. My finicky semitic complexion can’t risk much lower.
7. Tell us how not to sweat on the subway.
Manufacture icy shivers up and down your spine by reading scary stories on your phone.
8. Which summer hit of the '90s best describes you?
Anything by A*TEENS.
9. What song would you sing in a "Lip Sync For Your LIFE"?
What’s wrong with the world momma people livin like they aint got no mommas I think the whole world’s addicted to the drama only attracted to the things that’ll bring the trauma (etc).

Get to know  Lesley Hennen!
We’re one week away from She Makes Me Laugh’s July 2017 show! And we’re forecasting a rainstorm of talented ladies! Get to know our performer Lesley Hennen!
1. Who are your biggest comedy inspirations?
Sarah Silverman, Louis CK, Aparna Nancherla, Amy Poehler, Spongebob Squarepants (seriously, I've never not laughed at or related to an episode of Spongebob)
2. What made you want to follow the comedy path?
Some of my favorite tv shows growing up were comedy - All That, The Amanda Show, Who's Line, SNL - but I was also very quiet (still am) and never really considered comedy something that I could do myself. Then once when I was probably 13 or 14, I was hanging out with a group of other kids after school, and someone told me "Hey, you don't talk much, but when you do you're really funny." I have no idea what I said but I do think about that moment a lot and how it sort of helped me re-think my relationship to comedy.
3. Describe your comedy style in three words.
Overdramatic. Self-deprecating. Farts.
4. When was the last time you laughed really hard and why?
I saw The Big Sick last weekend and laughed my ass off. 10/10 would recommend!
5. Favorite place or thing to do in NYC?
People-watching in Washington Square Park. Or anywhere in the city really, but I get a lot of inspiration just from sitting in one place and watching/listening to all the crazy shit happening around me, and WSP usually has some prime opportunities for that.
6. Preferred SPF?
Oh god idk. Anything that's already mixed into another skincare product, otherwise I'll forget about it because I'm a bad adult woman.
7. Tell us how not to sweat on the subway.
^Following.
8. Which summer hit of the '90s best describes you?
No Scrubs by TLC - Did that come out in the summer? Either way that's still my pick.
9. What song would you sing in a "Lip Sync For Your LIFE"?
Ain't No Other Man by Christina Aguilera, as long as I don't actually have to sing it.
