Heres those pages from Soul Eater Not! Volume 4.5 translated. While in Books-a-Million, I found the Perfect Edition for the series & was surprised to see they had the Jot stories from it!

This post is late but I'm glad I found this because I completely forgot this book existed since everything is scattered. So far with what we have I can def. say that the series started in the 2000's. There was also a textbook Black Star was reading in ep. 14 that had some dates in there too, but I didn't look at it thoroughly so I can't say much about it.

So in the anime, there’s a book Stein picks up (I’m fairly confident the title is in French) that details the Czech Republic’s history. The title also shows that the events explain in the book is between 1201 - 1300s.

Since Stein and the show itself details the events taking place 800 years ago, that means Soul Eater’s years  placement is between 2001 - 2100.

"it’s pretty much just there as a plot device because Kid is crazy powerful and they need something to balance him." Exactly what I've been thinking. Especially because they later show his full strength at the end of the manga because it was time to wrap the story up. And I also agree that I don't like how everyone makes fun of him for it and that people who actually ship with him have to try to make him feel worse because of it. I saw a lot of x readers and fanfics like this back then, I dunno about now though. And I don't like that because he does show ocd-like symptoms, that everyone immediately says he's ocd without understanding it, because it's written nowhere in any of his bios, and because he's a death god with madness within him, and because this is fiction written in 2004.

Also I'm glad someone with OCD posted this. People with actual OCD can understand it more.

As someone with OCD, I have no idea how to feel about Death the Kid. Like he is so entertaining, like I can’t look away. He’s one of my favorite characters in the series (but Crona’s better), but like the OCD rep is so questionable. Like yes, I know they never say he has OCD and there are people who are like, actually it’s because of the madness and all that, like I’m sure there’s in show lore for it if you dig deep enough, but the symptoms of his “madness” or his being the child of death or whatever you want to argue the technical cause is, it’s still portraying OCD symptoms, and I feel like that’s the conclusion a lot of people come to when watching the show. But like, Death the Kid is genuinely somewhat relatable sometimes, with him spiraling over things. I don’t really have the symmetry thing I think, but that’s still a thing that can happen to people. But the emotions he feels over it are still the same. The thing that makes me kind of mad though is every time that this is brought up it’s played for laughs. Which like I wouldn’t mind if they did that sometimes but actually took it seriously occasionally, but like it’s always played for laughs. I feel like it could have been so interesting if they started with it being played for laughs and then later on had an episode where we could actually see how messed up Kid is without it being a punchline. Whenever it does mess him up, usually by distracting him in a battle, it’s pretty much just there as a plot device because Kid is crazy powerful and they need something to balance him. What also drives me crazy is the way that the other characters react to him. Like I know they’re all kids so I’ll give them a bit of a pass, but they just laugh at him, and intentionally provoke him sometimes I think. Like Kid will be on the floor, spiraling and crying, and the other characters are just like haha here we go again. Please someone help this kid. Especially since there are adults at this school, and like none of them take him seriously either. I dunno, I feel like Death the Kid could have had some interesting development just from a character perspective too, if they took the time to develop his OCD outside of just comedic purposes. Like, there are points where he is talking about how much he hates himself for not being symmetrical, and sure the other characters are laughing, but we could have dived into that and how his OCD ties into how he feels about being Death’s son. Or I don’t know, maybe they could have had at least one person understand, and maybe that could have been Crona, because A I want to see my first and second favs interact more, and B, Crona is also extremely anxious, and maybe they could have bonded over that. (Hm, maybe I should write a fanfic about this or something, but I might have to rewatch bits of the show first, it’s been a while since I watched the full thing). In conclusion, Death the Kid’s is entertaining, but also I feel personally attacked. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

This is a timeline estimation to determine when Death the Kid enrolled to the DWMA and to determine the birthdate range. SE Not! takes place before and during the beginning of the main SE storyline. 

Calendars show up multiple times in the series, both in the anime and manga. The SE Not! anime calendar numbers keep shifting on ep. 9, but the 24th is always shown above the 31st of Oct. and the SE calendar in ep. 14 is consistent in all frames shown. It shows Thursday the 11th circled and the month is 30 days. The 9th is shown in the beginning of the episode, and then the ep. ends on the 11th day. And you know what year has both those month numbers aligned properly at the earliest? 2004. It's also when the Soul Eater manga started serialization. For the SE not! calendar to make sense, it would need to match the SE ep. 14 calendar. So, if we count that as a fact, then that would mean Maka, Black star, and Soul's birth years are around 1991. (Kid might not have been an infant when created, so it may be a little later) Also, remember that since this is fiction, timeskips happen but all stories must have dates and a timeline to it.

SE Not! May / june / aug / sept / oct (Tsugumi likely starts school around May) (6 months pass)

(in Ep. 9 May shows up on some theft reports, and is mentioned to be recent, also, Eternal Feather is held at Steins lab in Spring and Summer, yet Tsugumi saw Eternal feather earlier in ep. 4 and in ep. 5 it’s hot so I looked it up and it says Nevada starts to get hot early June so the timeline works with this.) (there are a lot of timeskips in SE Not!)

SE main series: Nov. 1st to June 1st the 2nd yr (about 8 months pass) = 14 months/1yr. 2 mo.

During and after the Grigori arc, another 2 years pass, equaling 3+ years.

Maka and Black star are around 12-13 years old in the beginning of Soul Eater Not! and Death the Kid and Soul Evans are 13. Maka was born when Spirit was 18 and black star was a baby when he was taken in by Sid. Sid was 12 at the time.

Tsugumi Harudori is 14 in the beginning of SE Not!

Kim Diehl is 16 in SE not! (manga jot 2) (ep. 5 it says around 15) 

Sid Barett is killed and turned into a zombie a little before oct. 31st of the 1st year, then he shows up in ep. 4 to 5 of the main series. Since he’s a zombie, his age is stuck at 25 from there.

Kid enrolls and arrives on his first day in ep. 6. Kid is shown with liz and patty at the end of SE not! and in SE ep. 5 when he asks to register for classes, meaning he got them earlier. Liz and Patty were just brought in by Kid and were on probation in the beginning of SE Not! so he could not have used their weapon forms yet. In ep. 15 it shows a flashback of Kid getting Liz and Patty and picking out weapons, but I do not know the reasons for it, it could be because his father had one.

Ep. 1-14 Nov. 1st-9th?

Ep. 14 presumably, Nov. 9th 2004 is circled on the anime calendar, and it shows the days pass to the 11th, the 11th is assumed to be the test day. Kid even tells Liz that 3 days passed.

ep. 15-16 was on Dec. 20th-23rd of 1st year (Sid mentions it) after SE Not! ends. 

Dec. 24th is the dwma commemoration (ch. 15/ep. 18)

Apr. 1st (yr 2) was when the book was checked out by "M" (ep. 30 is in June) Kid enrolled at DWMA in ch3/ep. 5 

June 1st (yr 2) is the last recorded date in the anime

Maka is 14 and 15 in the Grigori arc which happens before the salvage arc.

Spirit albarn was 18 when Maka was born, was Age 31 in Clown arc, & 32-33 for rest of the Grigori arc

Kid and Soul are 15 years old at the end of the manga.

Kid's Id card date says it was issued 20xx/xx/13 (yr./mo./day) and enrolled around 13 years old, so he must have enrolled before Nov. 13th. Also, notice it says issue date, not enrollment date, so the enrollment dates and issue dates for ID cards are not on the same day, so for Kid's ID card date to make sense, he would have gotten the ID card in the mail or picked it up at a later date. If this is correct, it would be 2004/11/13.

To me, the Virgo sign matches Kid well, and if the SE main series happened after Oct. 31st and Mr. Ohkubo says he was 13 in the beginning, that would mean he was born between July and Oct. (SE Not! likely started in May, so Kid turning 13 during that year in SE Not! makes sense) Also, because it ends on June 1st in the main series and doesn't track after, Kid's age is still the same up until the grigori arc so he couldn't have another birthday between Nov. and June otherwise he'd be 14, but he's not 14 until the grigori arc. I hope that makes sense. See chart below for the age timeline chart.

In short, Soul Eater Not! ended in October 31st and started Spring of the 2nd year > Soul Eater overlaps and starts after October 31st > Kid enrolls in ep. 6 > Nov. 9-11th (based on a calendar in ep.14) which means the start date for Kid’s enrollment was in November.

For the estimated birthdates: All of them are 13 at the start of the series, but Kid was likely created past infant stage, so, if Soul was 5 years old for example, Kid could’ve been created when Soul was 5 and look like a 5 year old. But if not, they were all likely born in 1991 and the main series looks to have started in 2004.

So, if we were to give Kid a birthdate estimation, it would be July~Oct.31 1991.

These are just guesses, but so far the data we have aligns very well. The ages were calculated and checked on the chart before completing, so it should be right.

I dunno. I started this in Dec. 13th 2023 and dropped it, and just started working on it again for a couple of days to put all the pieces together and I did my best thanks to the wiki and all the sources I have available. Death the Kid Analysis Extended

This is a rewriting of an old post. This info. is mostly referenced from the manga because most of his information and development is only in the 2nd half of the manga, so I am going to give an extensive list of info. of him so that those who don't want to read the manga, or wants info. without going back, or just forgot can come here and look at it.

Now, for Kid's Info.:

Since he is a shinigami he is obsessed with perfection and balance. It is mentioned here and there throughout the whole manga and in official bios. on the gangan website that he is persnickety, pathologically neurotic, and abnormally obsessed with "symmetry" however, in vol.14 ch53, he dismisses Liz comment on his hair when his first lines of sanzu connects, stating that he'd usually obsess about it but won't. It is never mentioned he has OCD.

No one wanted to approach Kid because of who he was, and Kid was ostracized from other students, but it was Black star, Soul, then Maka who approached him and he became more open. It made him impressed and happy when Black star wanted to surpass him. (v19 ch77)

Kid bleeds, and it is red in both the manga and anime. The blood stays on the ground, and it shows slight whispyness in the manga once it regenerates, which is the same whisp strings you see when you see him manifest his skateboard from his hands.

Kid could not regenerate without the Brew tool. In ch. 53 Liz asks Free to save Kid because he'll die, and Kid was not regenerating until the brew took effect on him and gave him his first connected lines of sanzu (middle line), whilst also amplifying his soul wavelength. (Soul Wavelength should not be confused with his actual soul. The brew was making the Soul swell too though)

Kid has his own unique battle stances.

His father does not bleed when injured, and his father is seen only drinking tea a few times, but Kid eats, drinks, bleeds, shows emotions, feels pain, ages, and likes to be upkept.

Kid was created & raised from a child to learn and understand fear.

Kid's wavelength?/soul gets huge like his fathers when he connects all the lines of sanzu, and also appears similar to his.

Kid's soul color is red

Kid is 158cm tall and 13 years old in the start of SE Not!

Kid faints from high anxiety

Kid can't get intoxicated, get poisoned, or dye his hair.

Kid and Asura look humanoid, and lord death is said to have a face too under the mask in ch.70 & ep.39 (kid and asura are brothers)

Kid reacts to naked women twice along with Soul and Black star by Blair (op1 and ep. 12), and then once in the beginning in the pharaoh scene but is unaffected by Kaguya and the girls in the shower scene in the manga?* *there's a bump on his head after being pulled out, but in the next page he has a nosebleed dripping all the way down to his chin, not sure if that's from the smack he got or something else, but there's no lump with that nosebleed like in the previous panel but there is a punch mark

Based on Kids ID (in the anime), he was born between 1987 to 2086 since the issue date is xx/13/20XX (M/D/Y)

Excalibur says only 1 shinigami can exist at a time, however, I do not know Asura's situation and how he is still alive after Kid becomes complete, or why there's 3 shinigamis at the same time.

Kid sometimes curses.

Kid cares about his friends and is shown to protect Liz and Patty twice in the manga (1 to prevent them from going into the book of Eibon, and 2 telling Patty not to transform when he gets his arm cut)

Kid loves to read books. He shows up at the library a couple times, in ep. 15 he is reading a book, in the aftershow op/ed he is seen reading and holding a book, and in the mobile/website card game, he is seen holding one in his lap.

Kid can play basketball

Kid writes and draws with his right hand

Kid is very thin but flexible and agile. He restrains himself in battles at times

Kid gets taller in the manga during and after the grigori arc

Lastly Some bonus guesstimations...

Kid supposedly wears glasses in the manga (v1 ch3) and in an official mobile/online game's artwork he is shown wearing it. He also wears it in a mini comic booklet, but that isn't counted because it's like a "backstage" bonus.

Kid likely has "junk" parts. He mentions forgetting to fold the toilet paper, has a toilet in his mansion, and in the Fire Force mobile game he insinuates he has one.

Kid was likely not born as an infant. In the end of Fire force manga, and v19 ch77, it shows Kid at his youngest, maybe around 4 or 5 years old, and where lord death explains life and death like it's his first time explaining to him. You can also see an aura around Kid which might be an appearance effect and only shows in the Fire Force manga. We'll find out in the Fire Force season 3 anime whether it's true or not. Young Kid and Lord Death seem to be in the Death room, which might mean the DWMA was already constructed when this occurred. Also to make this claim more plausible, Asura was created in adulthood, so Lord death can choose any age he wants created from himself.
