I have the opposite problem where I find it hard recognizing I'm in a dream but when I do become lucid I can control some stuff. I'm still working on controlling my whole dream but yk baby steps.
I speak from personal experience so idk how serious my advice should be taken but
First thing I do when I'm not sure if I am in a dream or not I look at my hands. Today I tried to shift from a lucid dream and I ended up somewhere I didn't recognize so I thought at first that it worked but then I looked at my hands and I had 4 fingers on my left and about 7 on my right so I dismissed that thought.
Also I find it easier to control myself in a dream then my surroundings. For example I make myself fly or jump really high at first at that almost always works out. I did realize that I had to focus all my willpower to that specifically, I had to really want and believe it to happen. If I have a doubt or a negative thought of something that would mostly turn out for the worst (for me). Also everything is usually a lot slower for me when my dreams become lucid like I'm moving in slow motion.
Then I move onto controlling my surroundings. I haven't been able to change whole dreams yet. Last time I tried I felt and heard the new dream but I couldn't see it. But what does work for me is changing one thing. I have tried to make portals but for me those usually don't work but doors do because I can visualize those better. And before opening the door I visualize a bright light behind it and I set an intention when I step through it (for me this would be a different dream or a shift).
I stay away from experimenting with lucid dreams with people involved for now because I've had some paranoia leading to negative thoughts with it. But I've seen loads of people having no problem with talking to people in their dreams.
I've heard about some "rules" when dreaming about clocks, mirrors, men with hats and telling people that they're in your dream but since I've done no research on that I won't get into that also since I don't know how much of it is true or just made up :)
Hopefully some of it helps, if not then thank you for reading this rant.
Also don't let any of this limit anything. I've stated my past experiences and things I've noticed but I fully believe that everything goes smooth and well after doing it more and experiementing
Anyone have tips for lucid dreaming?
I've been working on lucid dreaming for about a year now. I often realise that I'm dreaming but can never quite push to the point of controlling it.
It's quite annoying when I wake up, knowing that I was aware of dreaming but not actually doing anything 😅

How To Finally Shift If You’ve Been Trying For 2+ Years
⚠️ Little warning before we begin: don’t get scared off! I might sound a little negative at first, but that’s not the point of this post. My goal is for you to reach the end of this and think “Oh, I’m definitely going to shift to my DR now!”
Having said that:
If you’ve been on your shifting journey for two or more years, doing methods, reprogramming your mind, consuming advice, maintaining a mental diet, manifesting, forcing assumptions, trying to create assumptions, etc, etc⏤and you still haven’t shifted your awareness to your DR, maybe it’s time to stop trying to make yourself shift.
Stop trying to shift.
Stop trying to trigger a shift.
Maybe the thing you need at this point in your journey is to stop trying to make yourself shift.
And I’ll explain why by asking you a question:
In these two, three, four, however many years of effort, don’t you think you would have shifted by now?
Think about it. You’ve oversaturated your mind with the intention to shift. You do all your methods correctly. You try to convince yourself that you're already in your DR. You feel symptoms. Sometimes you even "mini shift." And yet… you're still here. Doing the same things. Searching for advice that leads you right back to doing the same thing:
Trying to shift. Trying to trigger a shift. Trying to shift your awareness.
Trying.
Trying confidently.
Trying hopelessly.
Trying angrily.
…Trying.
If you were going to shift by inducing a shift, triggering a shift, or successfully shifting with a method, it would have happened by now.
“But Clover, I still have a lot of soul-searching and work to do! I just need to put in more effort!”
Awesome! Then click away, because this advice isn’t for you. I’m not talking to you.
I’m talking to the person who is tired. Who is drained. Who, despite applying all the sage advice on the internet, is just burnt out from the process of shifting.
And if that sounds like you, let me repeat: Maybe you need to stop actively trying to shift.
Your work is done. And that’s a good thing.
You’ve spent years ingraining the idea of shifting into your subconscious. You’ve impressed the intention to shift so deeply that it’s already there. Congratulations! You did all the mental work. It’s done.
Your DR is already yours. You already have the ability to shift.
So stop trying to trigger it. Stop trying to make yourself shift.
Let go of the “making yourself shift” process.
“Oh my god, she’s going to tell me to take a break.”
LMAO you thought.
Yes, breaks are excellent. They help reset and recharge your mindset. I always encourage taking breaks if you need them. But let’s be honest. Sometimes, even the thought of taking a break feels just as mentally exhausting as staying on your shifting journey.
“Oh no, she’s going to tell me to do nothing at all.”
Once again, you thought.
Instead, you’re going to capitalize on the fact that you’ve already done all this work. The intention to shift is always, always, always in your mind. Your subconscious knows you want to shift. Just like it knows how to shift your awareness.
So, the next time you lay down to do your shifting process...
Instead of trying to shift…
Instead of trying to induce a shift, induce the void, or force an outcome…
Give yourself exactly what you want.
Give yourself the feeling of being in your DR.
Drop the conscious, active intention to shift because your subconscious already has it covered. You don’t need to keep hammering it in. Instead, focus on inducing the emotions you would feel if you were in your DR.
Imagine waking up in your DR. Imagine being there. Imagine spending time with your DR friends, your S/O, whatever makes you happiest. Personally, I lean toward wake-up scenarios. You can listen to music, meditate, visualize, even do a shifting method if you enjoy it—but instead of doing it with the intention to shift, you’re doing it just to give your body and mind the feeling of being there. The happiness, the calm, the excitement, whatever it is for you.
This does not mean you’re lying there thinking, “Okay, this is going to make me shift.”
No. No, no, no, no, no.
Drop the idea of shifting entirely. That process is done.
And I’ll say it one more time:
If you were going to shift by inducing a shift, making yourself shift, or triggering a shift, it would have happened already.
So let it go. Drop it.
Induce the emotions of being in your DR, and then let go. Once you do that, go to sleep. Or go about your day. That’s it.
So why does this actually make you shift?
Because feeling is the language of the subconscious.
Think about it: The moments in your life that shaped you the most weren’t just things you thought. They were things you felt deeply. Joy, fear, excitement, grief. Emotions imprint on the subconscious. That’s why certain smells, songs, or places instantly bring back vivid memories. Because your subconscious records experiences based on emotions, not logic.
So when you stop trying to shift and instead just focus on feeling like you’re in your DR, your subconscious responds by aligning your awareness to match that emotional state.
Because to the subconscious, there’s no difference between imagination and reality. When you visualize something vividly enough, your brain fires the same neurons as if you were actually experiencing it. Athletes use this trick to enhance performance. Musicians use it to refine their skills. And guess what? It works for shifting too.
When you let go of the effort and just immerse yourself in the emotions of already being there, you bypass the resistance that trying creates.
And that’s when the shift happens.
It happens because you stopped forcing it.
It happens because your subconscious already knows how to shift, you just needed to get out of its way.
So, again, drop the struggle. Drop the effort. Stop trying to shift.
The more precise or perfect you want the shift to be, the more pressure you put on yourself. Your brain rebels against that because rigid control drains energy.
Remember this:
High Emotion + Low Attachment = Flow.
When you feel something strongly but aren’t clinging to the result, your subconscious has room to act. This is why sometimes, when you care less or focus on something in a passing, emotional way, it manifests easily.
This is why people can give up on shifting entirely and shift. This is why people let go of the need to shift and shift. This is why you shift without meaning to.
You: “No, I can’t do this! I need to keep trying to shift or else my subconscious will think I don’t want to shift anymore!”

✶ things i learned from shifting. . . as someone who's shifted.
i , the hardest part is pretending it's hard : shifting is not a herculean task. it's not climbing everest barefoot or decoding the voynich manuscript. it's deciding you're done with the mundane and stepping into the divine. every time you say, "i can't shift," you're just playing a trick on yourself. a bit like insisting you don't know how to breathe until someone reminds you. (spoiler: you do.)
ii , time is a house of mirrors : when you shift, you're not "leaving" this reality. you're just walking down another hallway. it feels linear until you turn, and suddenly you're face-to-face with yourself, or a version of you that's holding a cat and wearing thigh-high boots. time is bendy. it's pliable. it's like clay, in a way. it's an obedient servant if you tell it to be.
iii , belief is your first-class ticket : you don’t need a spell, a potion, or a seven-step guide. you just need belief. conviction is the real magic here. call it delusion if you like. i call it decisive manifesting. and trust me, i've shifted while feeling like a hollow shell of a human. belief doesn’t have to roar.
iv , you can't outrun yourself : shift all you want, but the core of you, the you that laughs too hard, cries too often, and loves too much, comes along for the ride. your dr self isn’t some perfect barbie doll version of you. they're you, but in technicolour. the grass is greener, but you're still the one who's walking barefoot on it.
v , failing is still shifting : every attempt you call a failure is still a step closer to mastering it. you don’t beat yourself up for dreaming weird dreams, do you? so why do it here? your mind’s just warming up, stretching its muscles. let it stumble. even if you "fail," you’re still playing the game, and that counts.
vi , nothing is as serious as it seems : shifting is playful, silly, camp. you’re choosing realities where you’re a pureblood gryffindor or dating a young peter parker!! have fun with it. get deranged. be the girl who giggles when thinking about her dr instead of sulking. make it ridiculous and extravagant. you’re literally bending reality to your will. why not make it a soap opera?
vii , you’re never ‘too much' : the universe doesn’t care if you want to rule a kingdom or live quietly in a cottage by the sea. your desires are never too loud, too big, or too weird. you are expansive. your mind was built for this. ask for it all, then ask for more.
viii , shifting is a love letter to yourself : it’s saying, "i believe in you," over and over, in different fonts, languages, and realities. it’s the grandest way to love yourself, to say you deserve the universe and every parallel one, too.
ix , reality is a suggestion, not a rule : the same way you decide to wear eyeliner and not cry in it, you decide what’s real. you decide the boundaries, the limits, the laws. shift as easily as you breathe because that’s what it is: life, but on your terms.
x , trust the multiverse, and trust yourself : the multiverse knows what it’s doing, but so do you. trust that you’re aligned with everything you’re seeking and that everything you’re seeking is also seeking you. it’s not just about waiting for the stars to align. . . it’s about knowing that you are the one aligning them. believe that the shift is already happening, because it is. all you have to do is show up for it.
now, stop doubting and go.

1) When you shift you aren’t ‘going’ anywhere. You’re already in your DR, just need to become aware of it
2) blockages aren’t ‘real’ yes maybe you're having doubts but that doesn't change anything. you can shift just as easily with doubts and ‘blockages’.
3) using subliminals, methods, motivation etc. isn't going to make you shift. only you can make yourself shift.
4) shifting isn't easy. shifting is not as easy as breathing, its as simple as shifting. Stop over complicating it and just believe in yourself.

I think I figured it out, why I’m manifesting, and shifting, all of it.
I don’t want to be content.
I want to live like every day could be my last. I want to love, and be loved, like every day could be our last. Even platonically, especially platonically. I want to breathe and run and cry and dance and hate and hurt and love and heal and bleed and spin around my living room until I can breathe. I want to hold someone’s hand during scary parts of movies, to hide my face in their shoulder. I want to go on late-night grocery store runs and eat an entire bag of chocolate chips in one sitting. I want a best friend, a real one, not just the only option I have. I want to not be scared any time I see a specific flag, or fear for my life as I walk down the street. I want to watch fireworks on the fourth and rant to a friend about how the Irish took the holiday for their own. I want to giggle as butterflies light on me and sit, be their reprieve as much as they are mine.
I want to be alive. I want to be happy. I want to be human. And I can’t do that here. But there, in Greece or Paris or Scotland or New York or Asgard or Wonderland or Prythian or at Paracosm Academy or on Pandora or any other place I’m going, I can be free.
I’ve never been free before. I wonder how that tastes.
