Most infuriating part of writing is having an idea and thinking oh, this is gonna be so good and wanting to IMMEDIATELY share the vision with other people because it's gonna be good but then you start writing it down and - it is gonna be good. Except. It is also gonna take so, so, so long to finish. And in the meantime. You are the only one with The Vision. Alone. Losing your mind. 😭

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I think it's so interesting how he's sort of a "heroic" villain--Adams once said he intended him as a "heroic anti-hero." Because yes, he's a horrible dictator, but he's also charismatic, brave, and strategic, and a sort of protective figure defending Efrafans from elil, even if he takes that too far with the Mark system. I think that's part of what makes him stand out so much as a villain, since he has a few genuinely good qualities that could've made him a great leader if he didn't let his paranoia and ego get the better of him.

On a similar note, another thing I think is great about his character is how perfectly his backstory fits with the sort of rabbit he became (in the book/series at least--his miniseries backstory was totally non sequitur and the film didn't even touch on it at all). I feel like a lot of villains get a generically tragic backstory to "explain" their villainy, but it's very clear imo how Woundwort's trauma actually informs his values and priorities.

ALSO his bonkers relationship with Campion in the 1999 show is so intense I love it. Cause what was all that!!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

he was so in love with campion in the 1999 show but they're both so repressed they'd never say anything

I MEAN. ummm. I do think he died in the book, I don't think he's wandering around the countryside (though that would be a super interesting idea to explore).

I think he invented the term General in the Lapine world, since that's a very un-rabbit-y title and every other chief is called "rah." I think he started using that title once he really began his military conquests, not when he first won the chieftaincy (in my prequel I'm planning out it's a place called Harroway Warren, which he invades soon after founding Efrafa).

I think he lost his eye in the fight with the schoolmaster's cat in the 1999 series (though I think this is a pretty popular hc).

Aaa these are all pretty boring headcanons, sorry. It's just such a broad question!

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Hmm...I have written for him, but not very much yet. One thing I think is important to remember about him is that he is driven by paranoia/fear. He might not fear stoats or dogs, but he's terrified of humans and of losing control, so he wields his power in Efrafa so oppressively because he does not feel secure in it. I think he so instinctively resorts to violence (ie "felt safer fighting than running") because killing something is exerting control over it, and he's trying desperately to beat the world down into something he can control instead of being himself at the mercy of men as he was in the hutch. I like to remember that, and I don't like when fic writers just make him generically evil and drop his motivations.

Also not to sound like a broken record but I like having him be weirdly intense about Campion--

23. Favorite picture of this character?

My fav design for him is definitely the 2023 graphic novel. I think this page has some great pictures:

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I thought he was a pretty neat antagonist! Adams pretty straightforwardly lays out Woundwort's whole deal in his introductory chapter, so I'd say the first impression was pretty thorough.

25, 2, 3, 18, 19, 20 and 26 for Corporal Moss.

For 26, when and how do you plan on adding Moss to your Re-imagining fanfic? He wasn’t in any of the previous chapters involving the Efrafans, nor was he mentioned, which is a bit surprising since TV-series retellings usually make him appear much earlier than he did in the original series (though I haven’t re-read any of your Efrafan chapters so I may have to go do that in case I’m wrong). Plus, you gave Aspen an early appearance.

How do you intend to change, or expand on Moss’s character, and role from the original story, assuming you have plans for him at all?

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I like how he's introduced as a not-so-villainous villain. I like how he gets to be charming and jovial instead of just an evil soldier. I like how he's an antagonist who has a change of heart without any of Campion's self-pitying identity crisis nonsense (I say this with utmost affection. I love Campion's self-pitying identity crisis nonsense).

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Character-wise: He was a slavedriver :/ Everyone forgets about this because this was mostly shown in relation to Vervain, but it was pretty clearly Moss's job to keep the slaves working in 2x7 and 2x13.

Writing-wise: I think his development into a rebel leader in 3x1 was way too fast. It needed more time, and honestly his "for Campion" justification didn't make much sense since he JUST watched Campion die for Woundwort. "I'm gonna rebel against a tyrant in the name of this guy who died for him" do you hear yourself??

Also his s3 design was such a downgrade like why 😭😭

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I like his lowkey-awkward friendship with Campion. It's clear that they respect each other a lot, even if it's complicated by all the evil military stuff.

19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

Ok, I don't dislike his relationship with Heather, but it needed a lot more development in my opinion. They could've been really neat if their rebel plotting lasted longer than 40 seconds or whatever it was. (Also Heather was super under-utilized as a character but that's a different question.)

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I'm trying to come up with something more interesting/thoughtful than "Campion who he's already friends with" but I don't know 😭😭 sorry

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I think I liked him pretty quickly! It's neat to have an Efrafan soldier who's just kind of...some guy. We got that in the book with characters like Avens and Groundsel, but I didn't expect the kiddie cartoon to include that level of nuance, since usually there's a pretty flat "The Baddies Are Bad" attitude in that type of show. And I still like him!

26. FREEBIE QUESTION!!

Wow you're right...I just did a search of my document and I haven't even mentioned Moss yet! For some reason I thought I'd put him in the background somewhere but I guess not yet. I'm not really sure where I'd put him in the escape chapters, since they're pretty busy as-is, but I do intend to at least mention him before his "Friend and Enemy" appearance, since it takes place so late in the season. Right now, I'm thinking of introducing him in a "new episode" chapter that's a villain-POV Wide Patrol chapter.

I definitely plan to give him more attention, especially in Season 3 during the rebellion plotline, which I plan to expand a LOT because it happened way too fast in the show. And I'll probably include more of Moss's warren in late s3 because they just kinda disappear in the show 😭 I don't have the details super worked out yet because I'm still working on s1. I'll probably have him doubt Woundwort/Efrafa more as s2 progresses though, to set up his change of heart in s3.
